I love credit cards so much!

Nope we go to Marcus Theaters. They have free member cards that give you $5 Tuesdays with free popcorn. They also have $6 Thursdays for "students" and if you buy a small pop you can use your card to get free refills.

First Man was probably just not my type of movie. I typically like animated movies or fantasy/sci-fi. I REALLY liked Venom, though. Smallfoot wasn't the best, but the music was super cute.
We went to see Venom over the weekend and really liked it also. Now we are counting down the days until Fantastic Beasts arrives in the theatre!

I keep reading here about Swagbucks so I checked it out. Are you all doing the "watch videos for points" or the "get points for shopping" thing? Or both? Is there some sort of Swagbucks 101 someone can point me to so I can see if it's something I might want to try?
All of the above :) Some activities work better than others for some people, so you have to find your own mix. Some just do the shopping bonuses, like the RMN deals, while others do the whole package. I'd pop your head into the Swagbucks thread for advice https://www.disboards.com/threads/those-using-swagbucks.3222525/

We're friendly there too

:offtopic:

In this episode of tell me how to live my life... DCL. We are heading to WDW in July of next year. DH has been adamant for years that he would never do a cruise. Suddenly, he's open to the idea of a land and sea vacation.

:scared1: Me, casually looking up the price of a 4 day DCL cruise.

We have never, ever cruised before. From what j can tell, DCL is at least double if not more than other cruises. Is the Disney difference worth it? Is the land and sea worth it? Maybe we should just extend and spend a few days at the beach?

Of course, I would do some wheeling and dealing to negate the cost of the cruise with CC rewards, GC discounts, Swagbucks, etc. But then again, I could channel that energy into a 'nicer' WDW trip.

DCL is especially expensive during school breaks. We've done 2 DCL cruises now and have taken the kids out of school both times. Was able to find an odd day or two they had off, so they didn't have to take a whole week. It's still more expensive than other cruise lines, but not as bad. Every release I look, but I don't think I'll ever find a cruise during school break with a price I find palatable, lol.

Also, a cruise next July means it's been released for some time. DCL prices usually just go up after release (or just stay the same if it doesn't sell well). Unless it's a discounted last minute fare, Florida resident, or military fare.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if this was worthwhile or some sort of rabbit hole I shouldn't go down. :rotfl:

Swagbucks can be really tedious and is usually a pretty slow earner, so you aren't going to pay for a trip in a couple months or anything like that. But I've been doing SB's for 2 1/2 years and have earned about $2400. Not a bad haul for something that is mostly passive for me. I detest surveys so I don't do those or anything else that requires much of my attention span. My primary way of earning is running ncraves, occasionally shopping through their portal and doing offers that are money makers (though I don't do a ton of those).

Pop over to the SB's thread and ask questions! Lots of the same faces there as you see here :D

Thanks. I played with it a bit and it looks like they might start spamming my email, so I will cautiously look at the thread.

When you log into your SPG account you'll see the conversion. They multiplied every Starpoint by 3 to match Marriott so you should have at least 126k. The transfer to airlines is about the same. Under SPG every 20k Starpoints transferred to an airline got you a 5k bonus, so 25k airline miles. Under the new program every 60k transferred gets you the same bonus for 25k airline miles in the end (for all but a handful of partners). In terms of airline transfers it's the same valuation, just larger amounts of points going through it.

Can't speak to 5/24, I don't recall if we ever got definitive data points that the new cards were or weren't subject to it. The old personal card was but the business card wasn't. Both got a revamp, personal with the new Premier Plus card (old card was discontinued), business with a update to Biz Premier Plus (all old cards were converted to the new one). So in the beginning I think the assumption was they'd be subject to it but don't know what the final outcome was.

That said, they instituted new rules for getting the SPG/Marriott cards and if you have or had one you may be ineligible for the card/bonus on another. If you haven't seen the new rules yet, this is a pretty good chart read through: https://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/2018/07/30/navigating-marriotts-byzantine-credit-card-rules/

Thank you so much for this info (and sorry for the delayed response, between work and travel I haven't been able to follow the thread)!!

You two are making me worry. My 2 year old also has ear and hearing problems and is on her second set of ear tubes. She's always been a champ on planes, no crying. Could this change when her tubes fall out?
My daughter had issues with the tubes and without them....since your daughter has been on a plane and fine...I wouldn’t worry..

Y'all...is it that time yet? Should I apply for my SW Biz card?

I applied for the CIP around 6/20/18...was approved on or around 7/11/18. I'm safe as far as timing my apps goes, right? And it looks like 90 days from now would be January 9th, so plenty of time to finish the MSR in the New Year, especially if I actually have 115 days. Then I'll apply in-flight at Christmas for whatever personal card has a 50k offer and meet that spend in Jan.

Tell me if I should jump! (You do always say to check in before applying for new cards!)

I’d go for it...:tinker:

I'm curious if any of you do the auto payment option with your cards, just for peace of mind. I know I've read some of you pay on your cards whenever you get paid. Is there a limit to how many payments they will accept in a pay period?

The first thing I do when I get a new card is 1) activate 2) set up auto pay. I will not swipe a card unless autopay is enabled. Most of the time I just let it go and the bank drafts the one large payment on the due date but I've also made extra payments. I never had an issue doing this with Chase, Barclays or Amex. I don't pay every day tho. Any extra payments would be 1 time a week.

According to the terms of the promotion it has to be a MasterCard credit card. It might derail your plans but you could think about getting a Barclaycard Arrival Plus. 2% back on everything. 60k and no AF waived first year. Other option I am familiar with is the Chase IHG card. It is a MasterCard. Free night on renewal each year. Sure other MasterCards out there that could be options too.

Thanks for the info and suggestions!
