I love credit cards so much!

Anyone want to place bets on how long til RMN cash back is dead? I just saw it on FB too. It is spreading like a weed.

Noooooo! I knew once I jumped on the bandwagon it would die. :sad2:

OMG the complaints and negativity about NOLA on the cruise forum :earseek:
Some downright nasty. I mean say it’s not for you but no need to say it’s disgusting, vile and has terrible food, etc. I loved NOLA, and while I’ve never been to NYC I know quite a few people tell me how dirty it is. I think every city has its pluses and minuses

I saw those posts, too. I was shocked. I don't really want to sail out of NOLA since it's not easy to get there from here. But I'd love to visit some day. They were really bashing it over there.

I personally think the Hawaiian itinerary looks very boring. 5 days at sea? I’d rather fly to Hawaii and spend those 5 days on the island. I’ve never been to New Orleans but it seems like a cool place to visit before a cruise. Pofq is our favorite Disney resort.

Yeah, I totally get what you're saying. I was thinking the same thing, then trying to convince myself that it could be cool. But I love the resorts and beach time in Hawaii so I don't think a cruise is for me. Oh, I use to think 5 sea days would be boring. Then I sailed the Norway/Iceland/Scotland cruise in August - after 24 hours traveling and 2 tough touring days in Copenhagen and then 3 in Norway we were pretty much wishing we could have 5 days at sea just to recuperate and relax. :rotfl: So now I guess I get it.

I was approved for the CIP on 7/4. I was going to wait until end of October to DD the Sapphires, but since that’s out the window, I’m thinking I could probably go ahead and apply for the CSR next weekend. We’re finishing minimum spend on the IHG Premier (DH’s) tomorrow. 3 months in between and I’m good to go, right? Also needing advice on when to set DH up with a new (MR earning?) card. He got the CIP end of July and the IHG Premier 3 weeks later. Thinking January for him?

With the DD out the window, so is the accompanying higher risk of shutdown by applying for 2 cards on the same day. Your CIP was almost 3 months ago. I’d say you’re fine applying for a new Chase card between 2-3 months after your last reported card was opened.

As for DH, if your budget can manage the spend on a new Amex card (and depending on what you want to do with his 5/24 status), he could go for a new Amex card now; no need to wait for January.

My last few cards were:

- the CIC in mid-May;
- the Amex Hilton Biz in mid-June;
- the Amex Biz Platinum in late-July;
- the Amex Biz Green in late July;
- the Chase Marriott PP in early-August; and
- the SPG Lux in late-August.

So, I’ve been pretty aggressive with the timing of my apps, but I mixed in biz apps to keep my personal credit report clear, and all were auto approved, no shutdowns.

Good luck!

Thanks! So whenever later this fall an Amex biz card for DH would work fine...great, thanks! I’ve been faithfully following for months now but the timing on apps still isn’t totally clicking with me. The idea of diversifying points resonates with me though. It would be nice to not be 100% about the UR’s.

@Judique Which OC hotel were you supposed to stay at that didn’t open in time? DS has a long weekend coming up and we are trying to decide what to do. I need 3 more Marriott nights for platinum. I figured maybe I can get a coupe in that weekend.

Interesting. I thought NOLA would be a huge hit just because of how cool a city it is and people can can hit the highlights in just a couple days... but it's definitely not for everyone and can be expensive to fly into (at least the cash prices were expensive from CA when I was looking for my trip I did in June).

Well, SW flies there so it should be good for people who fly them. I had a coworker from Orlando who would drive 3 hours to fly from NOLA home ( v the direct now defunct Delta flight from PNS or the 7 hour drive). It seemed weird to me but it was the first time I’d heard of SW!

Honestly I dislike NoLA - live 3 hours away and have been several times BUT I wouldn’t go out of my way to bash it and am open to cruising out of there. It’s certainly not for everyone but what place (even WDW) is?

Yeah, have to admit HI doesn't appeal to me. Give me more island time any time!

LOL! I’d be happy cruising around the islands and never leaving the ship. Spending several years in the Caribbean ruined the Pacific for me. That said...different strokes. I don’t understand if someone vacations differently than I why they should care??

I'm going through all our cards trying to figure out the dates when they were opened to answer the ?/5 thing correctly, and I just needed to comment on the name of one of my cards, the "Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard". Could they have come up with a more convoluted or blingy name for a really ugly gray card? What marketing genius thought this one up?

@Lain I can now answer the ?/5 question with more detail.

DH is 4/5 right now. I am 3/5 right now.

One store card (BR Visa) was opened 3/17 so we should be dropping down a card next March or April. We both have one.
The other one (Nordstrom) was opened on 7/17 so that should drop off in July or August. I'm an AU on this one as well.

Other than that, DH has the Plat (2011), the 2 from the Chase DD 7/18, Bloomingdales from 2015, and a Disney Visa from 2011. He's an AU on my Citi card (the acct is old but I suspect he got the AU around 1994-96).

Other than the 2 above, I have my own Plat 8/18, the above crazily named Citi card from 1993, and I'm an AU on all cards except the DD.

I don't get it either. I love that not everyone wants the same trip that I do or I'd never find award seats on planes or free nights in hotels or discounts anywhere. Personally I love the resorts in Hawaii and would be happy parking myself at one or more for a month, but I also really loved the few sea days we had on our last cruise and wouldn't mind a few of those, too.

I have a return to make at Kohl’s since DS is growing like a weed. I guess i’ll Wait for my RMN funds to post, move to PayPal and then return for a different pair of paints. Don’t want to try and clawback DH and my $10.

So your 3/24 includes:

BR Visa 3/17
Nordstrom 7/17
Amex Platinum 8/18?

Just curious if the Amex Platinum has shown up on your credit report (on Credit Karma) yet? Or if you're just counting it because you know when you opened it. Typically, Amex doesn't report new, personal card accounts until the close of the second monthly statement.

Since I brought up the Hyatt card today, how it's not subject to 5/24, but may fall under the 5/24 rule eventually, here's an interesting article from Gary Leff at VftW: Will Chase’s 5/24 Apply to the Hyatt Visa Soon?

• At the launch for the World of Hyatt credit card, Chase’s President of co-brand cards said that we should expect 5/24 to roll out eventually to this card and across the rest of their portfolio, too.

• However an executive familiar with Chase’s thinking says the Hyatt card isn’t likely to see 5/24 any time soon because if 5/24 applied they wouldn’t get any cardmembers!

• While it’s a great card, the market for it is narrow:
  • Hyatt only has 1/10th the number of hotel properties as Marriott
  • It’s great for Hyatt loyalists, and especially those who value Hyatt status — which is an even smaller pool.

Off topic....Back home from our Disney trip....tried to keep up...seemed like nothing earth shattering happened this week...lol

Parks to us were not crowed.

Attend the DVC moonlight magic event at the Studios... RRC, TT, ST were walk on.... toy story land as expected was where most people were...waited 30 min for Slinky Dog, 15 for TSM and walked on AS....left around 11 since so n and his girlfriend were working Thursday......we enjoyed it but would not plan a trip around one

Glad you had a great trip! We also just got back from our trip and I tried to keep up when we were in the room during the afternoons. Thankfully, not much happened this week. It was incredibly hot for September. My DD even mentioned that she thought it was hotter this week than 4th of July week!

The parks were definitely manageable except DHS on Tuesday morning. We enjoy going this week since our school has Fall Break.

We enjoyed the DVC moonlight magic event. We haven't been to an event since we did AK the same week in 2016. Didn't know they gave meal vouchers so we had already planned dinner at SciFi. We ended up getting chicken/waffles and bottled water at 11:00 to take back to the room for breakfast the next morning. After heating in the oven, they were actually pretty good. We enjoyed seeing the unique characters. Definitely ask about the characters, since some weren't on the itinerary.

I finally watched The Greatest Showman tonight and I didn't like it. :duck::duck::duck::duck: I was excited about a movie for PT Barnum but being a musical it really wasn't. And the musical all sounded the same and similar to Moana which I kept expecting to hear. Partway through the movie I looked up books on him and reserved one with the library. I think it's also partly because I wanted to know more and didn't need the random songs thrown in even though they fit in better and made sense with the story than most musicals.

This isn't because I don't like musicals either, I could sing a long to most of Grease, Meet Me in St. Louis, Bye Bye Birdie, LA LA Land and Rent. I've seen Rocky Horror as a stage production, much better than the movie too.

Anyway back to your regularly scheduled churning conversation :) With a plug to use your local library not just for books but for dvds, cds, digital magazines and ebooks ::yes:: :coffee:

Go for it! I think it’s time for you to hold a sweet Sapphire Reserve in your hands! LOL! Also love to see planning things out a few months - the way you’re alternating cards is awesome!

You’re lucky the Disboards doesn’t have a downvote button.

At least you didn't shun me. And I was hesitant to post...

I forgot to mention that I do love Zac Efron and have also seen all 3 high school musicals including the one that was in the theatre and I saw it opening weekend. Yes I'm 39 but I don't care and he was over 18. Though I did think it was interesting that I think he actually sang for himself in GS cause he didn't in HSM, at least not the first 2 because Drew Seeley did it for him, which is the guy that was in Another Cinderella Story with Selena Gomez.

One thing to keep in mind is Let your spend dictate the timing of the apps too. You don’t want to go too fast (which you’re certainly monitoring) BUT don’t rush things either for no reason. If your husband doesn’t need a card yet (and you could just use the Sapphire for most expenses) then do that. If you’re going to breeze thru the CSR MSR in no time then maybe 2 cards now makes sense.

No matter what you decide - good luck!!

I'm just assuming it's there. In any event we want to proceed slowly, so I don't see me getting to 5/24 before (or long before) those store cards start to drop off.

I'm confused by the negativity in NOLA for DCL, I always figured that made the most sense for them... did they not have an animated movie set there? They could add pre and post cruise tours of the city with the movie and other theming tie ins for the Disney fans. And thousands of people visit NOLA anyway it seemed like an easy way to get people on the fence about a cruise on board linking it to another must visit location.

People just need something to complain about I guess. But I'd have expected that over on CC and not the DIS.

Ha I am 49 and have soundtracks for all 3 HSM on my phone. And I too saw the third one opening night, but I had a teen daughter as an excuse . But sorry, I LOVE The Greatest Showman
