I love credit cards so much!

Wow, that sounds fun. For a brave person! Lol. I don’t know that I could give up control like that. Though probably what we need since we can’t come to a consensus. I will have to look more into it. Problem for this trip is I agreed to use my companion pass for my friend who doesn’t have as much money and we are leaving from 3 different airports.

I agree about the control part but I think it would be fun. They do road trips too which I'd be more inclined to do but there's nowhere within driving distance that I either haven't done or want to do. Pretty sure the different airports isn't an issue but it could make budgets more. Companion pass however wouldn't work with it.

Short question for today:

Has anyone ever gotten a refund through Plastiq if your payment isn't marked "complete" yet? My check to my landlord got lost in the mail or misplaced in the office...I'd really like that $900 back.

Yes.

It’s unfortunate and inconvenient, but it happens.

It’s best to contact a Plastiq rep through chat (on the lower left corner of the site). If the live chat option is not available, I almost wouldn’t bother submitting a ticket. That’ll take them several days to get back to you, if at all. Over live chat, they should be able to cancel and refund your payment right away, and you should see the refund reflected on your credit card statement in 2-3 days.

Have the Payment ID ready, when the Plastiq payment was sent and guaranteed for delivery. Let them know the recipient never received the payment and ask that they cancel the check and issue you a refund. If you incurred a late fee because of the missed payment delivery, let them know too, and they’ll follow up with an email asking you to reply with some proof of the late fee, and they’ll send you a check to reimburse you for the late fee.

Sounds good. Because of YNAB I've got a good month's buffer in my budget plus savings, so carrying the double rent payment more an inconvenience than a full-on emergency. Still sucky though :/ Thanks for the detailed reply!

You might also want to warn your landlord not to cash a check that may be coming in the mail if it does show up. Don’t want the check to bounce and you get charged some other fee.

Did anyone else get the new Hyatt card? I thought I had hit my first $3000 in spend, but forgot about the annual fee, doh, so I was $10 short. Just my first billing cycle so I’m good, but I did receive 10,000 bonus points so wondering what that could be from? Anyone know? I believe the offer was 40,000 points for first $3000 and 20,000 more for a second $3000 spend in first 6 months.

Made any referrals?

Can anyone poke a hole in my tentative plan here?

Book Frontier flights using CSR (maybe points, maybe just buy them 4200 points x6) for 4:35 Thurs pm before our Saturday cruise in Dec. I read on flyer talk that you can save the $19 per ticket fee if you buy at the airport. What!? So They'd be $40 each. Add some fees and they are still significantly cheaper than SW.

As backup, book SW flights at 6:30pm for the same night on points (17,500 each ouch!).

If the frontier flies as scheduled, I cancel my SW flights and get my points back. If it doesn't, we still have a way to Florida.

Am I missing anything here?

That's an interesting plan. But what if the Frontier flight is delayed a few hours? I guess you could still cancel SW as long as you thought Frontier was going to get there that day, even if late. I have no experience with Frontier so I have no idea if it's more likely that the flight would be delayed rather than cancelled.

I just realized my plan is greatly dependent on getting a good credit limit when I apply for the Discover it. I have a good credit score and pay my bills in full on time. The only potential problem I see is the fact that this will be my first Discover card.

I want to apply for the Discover it cash back and the Disney premier. My plan is to put less on the Disney (6 months 0%) and more on the Discover (14 months 0%), and take advantage of having more time to pay it off. I’ll probably get a decent limit on the Disney card because of my history with Chase. Would my nonexistent Discover history mean a credit limit that is too low for my plans? Should I apply for one first over the other? Does any of that make any difference?

Ok so I am like 55 pages behind right now because I myself have been spending my internet time pondering an add-on and bouncing between now/later and direct/resale. When I called my guide I mentioned my love for maximizing CC rewards and he said you can "use as many cards as you like--use 10 if you want!". I mean I get he's interested in a sale but hey it's an option to keep in mind if you don't get the limit you'd hoped for.

Yes! That was from me using your referral link!! :)

I was south of DC at the Courtyard in Waldorf, Md as I was meeting a friend there for lunch at Panera. I called the Residence Inn there as well and they said they sold them, but didn't have any stock right at that moment and they offered to transfer my call to the Courtyard there - it's right across from their Best Buy. I also called the TownPlace Suites in Clinton, Md (right next to Andrews) and they had them, but this was a slight detour from where I was going.

I didn't call any around Arundel Mills area but between there and the airport, a lot of options come up there when I just searched 'Columbia, Md', on the Marriott website (to get the phone numbers.)

Edit: I saw you found one! Which one did you find? Daughter will probably do this as well but in the north of DC area. There are 198 Marriotts and SPG's pop up for this area when you search the website!

Yes, Columbia, MD has quite a few Marriott properties, but NONE sells giftcards; I called all of them to ask before I made the trip (thankfully). I ended up stopping by a Courtyard in Silver Spring when I was in the area after they told me they me they sold giftcards :D.

My Staples had lots of $200s... poor DH :P

And RMN tracked for it.
I finally got onboard with this deal. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. But I was so tired I forgot to add a candy bar or something. Lol. I did get the email from Amex and RMN notification. I have done RMN twice before and both failed. Glad this worked.
Lots of Visa GCs at Staples here. No churners I guess

Well thats not so bad. Could still double dip. Do the 50k in flight and when you get off the plane do the premier or plus for 40k. Then you're only 20k from CP. Attainable, just not as easy as it once was.

Good idea...and if they are ok with doing the SW busness card 60,000 more RR points

Now that I have $22k in spend, looking for recommendations for best cards to hit without going AF crazy. I just got the AMEx Plat Personal so there’s $5k.

i would have suggested an amex biz card but your crazy AF requirement makes it null.
Only card i think of with a nice bonus is the BA card. 100k avios, but i think its like 20k spendings.

ETA: Upgraded to SPG Lux. Even though wording in my online account no longer offered 100k, I used link in email and seems to have worked. No welcome email or anything different on website yet.

I applied for the Lux and didn’t receive anything until about 24 hours later I noticed it had changed on the app to the Lux. (I had read through the comments about it on Doctor of Credit and it said it would change in 24-48 hours so I had been checking).

I really like the Arrival+, but I'm not sure I'd recommend getting it at 5/24. There aren't any other 5/24 restricted cards you want first?

Honestly I love the UR’s but right now am a little frustrated with Chase. In the group that made spend and nothing for DH and his Ink Unlimited. For myself I have CIP and would like he 50k for a CIC of my own but I need to wait until April to cancel the CIP and then try to get it. I have 6 Chase personal and am pretty tapped out on what else would even want. Maybe a Marriott card but after my experience with getting CIP I am a little worried with Chase (painful phone call to get approved). Plus with having the Lux now not even sure if could get a Marriott personal?!?

Focusing on Amex for now and MR’s since Delta hostage. Other than Amex I honestly can’t think of others might want. (Hence the crazy thought to get Arrival Plus again and have a MasterCard other than Chase IHG). I guess getting another personal now shouldn’t affect getting Amex again sooner rather than later?

Thank you @Lain for your thoughts too. This morning I was considering even getting DH the Arrival Plus but in thinking about it I want UR’s enough that I will keep his report clean and in this year use my referrals to get him the Freedom and FU. I am just a little frustrated with myself. Took me forever to finally decide to try Plastiq and it was so easy...just wish I had done it sooner. Should have listened to you all! That way I think I wouldn’t be plotting as much to find ways to still use it in a smart way.

@Alexle2007 I just bought both a direct and resale DVC this year so newbie...but I did a ton of research. Make sure you understand User Year. It does matter. (I had my guide get a little put out and say it didn’t matter until I insisted I wanted October...at which time October was magically found). If it works for your travel patterns if I were you I would insist on either an October or December UY; that way you will get both the 2017 and 2018 points.

Thanks. I did ask about that but I am not sure I was asking the right question since I was asking more from a cancellation perspective. He was offering us April and said we would get the 120 for 2018 and then in April 2019 another 120. So if I ask for Dec I would get 120 for 2017, get 120 in Dec 2018 and 120 in Dec 2019? Now to do more research...

So now I am even more confused after reading...let’s say I went with Dec but I wanted to come back to stay in mid Aug 2018, would I be able to use those 2017 points for it? I am sure how you can bank them since it is less than 4 months for the use year? (Which I understand it to be 12/1/17-11/30/18 but have needed to be banked in Aug. Does that mean I would have schedule a trip before the end of Nov to use those 120 points else I would lose them?
