I love credit cards so much!

Ok, this will be a totally stupid question but...I have never used a debit card. So I signed up for PNC account for the bonus. Need 10 debits. So any time I use the debit card, it counts, right? Even if the transaction doesn’t come up as debit on my account? Also for those that did PNC bonus, I did a push from CapOne but it doesn’t say direct deposit like DHs paycheck does. Will it still work?

This is exactly what I did for PNC. I did 10 Amazon reloads with the debit card. Then a push from CapOne. It's listed as an ACH credit on the account, and I got an email from PNC that a direct deposit posted to the account. But, I finished this on Aug. 21 and no bonus so far. So I don't know if it worked.

Annoyingly, I only get a paycheck once a month, so I have just one more chance to do a real direct deposit. I'm waiting anxiously for my bonus!

I've actually been wondering about this too. I'm currently researching bank bonuses. I don't have enough cash on hand to get a savings account bonus, so I'm looking at checking accounts. I want to avoid a monthly fee that would eat up the bonus. It seems you can avoid the monthly fee with some banks by having a direct deposit. I was wondering if it had to be from a paycheck or if I could do an automatic funds transfer to or from another account. My gut is telling me it is probably a paycheck because some of the banks have a very specific list of what counts. But others don't have a list. Anyone have any first hand knowledge?

ETA: I may have found the answer for PNC at least.
"A qualifying Direct Deposit is defined as a recurring Direct Deposit of a paycheck, pension, Social Security or other regular monthly income electronically deposited by an employer or an outside agency into the Spend account of a Virtual Wallet with Performance Select, Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend or Virtual Wallet, or into a Performance Select Checking, Performance Checking or Standard Checking account. The total amount of all qualifying Direct Deposits credited to your checking account must be at least $5,000 for Virtual Wallet with Performance Select or Performance Select Checking, $2,000 for Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend or Performance Checking or $500 for Virtual Wallet or Standard Checking. Credit card cash advance transfers, transfers from one account to another or deposits made at a branch or ATM do not qualify as qualifying Direct Deposits."

Thanks. We aren't going to hit the $1500 this quarter and I've found that if I have GCs I'm more likely to want to eat out, so I'm trying to not amass a huge amount in GCs -- but on the other hand, 10 percent back plus airline points . . .

Replying to my own post, but can I add the same Discover card to multiple programs? So far it seems that SW, AA and Delta all have dining programs -- will I be violating some rules if I register the same card with all of them?

ETA -- the answer is a big no, you cannot use the same card . . . I had registered the Discover card with SW and then just added it to Delta; SW then sent me an email informing me that my card had been transferred . . . I guess I'll have to figure out which program offers the best rewards. Delta skymiles don't expire, so it probably would be more advantageous to use the SW program.

It should. When you expand on the purchase it should say "DEBIT CARD PURCHASE" in the description. All my purchases, online (Amazon reload) or instore start the description with that. As for the CapOne, in the description it should start with "ACH CREDIT" and you will be good there. That's what my one legit DD showed as well so it matched my CapOne. I got the bonus and the only way that happened is if the CapOne counted because my legit DD wasn't anywhere close to the required amount for the Performance Select VW I opened.

I guess we only have another 10 or so days til we find out CF q4, right? I am ready for this quarter to be over.

Me too. I’ve barely done anything on my CF this quarter. Too many MSRs to meet, plus I’m coming out better with 10% back at Exxon on my Hilton Biz.

I'll max out my CF during its first quarter bc of buying amazon gc at Walgreens---all that college shopping we did!

Ah, so you found out :) It depends on if they're using the same network to run the program. Only 1 card can be registered at a time. So I've got a card registered with IHG dining program that's also registered with Swagbucks Local. If I go to a place that's registered in both networks I get points in both places. But apparently Dosh is using the same network as SB Local so there's reports you can't have the same card registered in both. I think many of the airlines are using the same network as I had the same thing happen when I added my card to United, it deregistered it from SW. Here's the network Delta and SW are using: https://www.rewardsnetwork.com/earn/

ETA: Aw, how did I forget that Hilton had a dining program with them? Have to get hubby signed up for that one, I think there's a couple places he goes to lunch that participate.

Best source on bank bonuses is Doc of Credit, https://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-bank-account-bonuses/, for each bonus there is extensive write up on what counts as DD, and terms of offer to keep fee free. Most of the fees can be avoided if you keep a minimum amount in the account. I typically only do bank bonuses that I don't need a DD or can trigger the DD another way given the pain it is to change my DD with my employer.

Thanks for the further information. It looks like all of the airlines I have points with are using this network.

Hotel dining programs like IHG were not even on my radar . . . are those on a different network?

Wait... if that lady is a dentist why was she advertising botox clinics in Dubai?

Could potentially do both. Laws are different all over as to who can inject botox, plus it all depends on what it's being used for, wrinkles or something else. There's shady stuff that goes on in other places with botox and plastic surgery and stuff like that.

Looks like Hilton, IHG and Total Rewards are on the same network I linked to. I guess if another hotel has one it's on a different network and we could double dip that :)

That one super freaked me until I learned more about the situation. She tried to enter on an expired Swedish passport and was denied, she then tried to use her Iranian passport and was told she could use that if she bought a temporary visa but had to leave within 8 days. They claim she refused to pay and got angry and verbally abusive and that led to the arrest. Official statement: http://www.mediaoffice.ae/en/media-...atement-by-the-attorney-general-of-dubai.aspx for your peace of mind. As much as I don't believe too much coming from any government these days this makes a lot more sense than "woman arrested for drinking 1 glass of wine served to her by national airline". Any law enforcement official would ask if you've been drinking if you started making a scene and became belligerent at immigration! Maybe none of that happened and they made it all up but I really don't think so, some facts you can't fake- like an expired passport.

That story freaked me out because my DD17 had just gotten back from Thailand on an Emirates flight stopping in Dubai. When she got home she told me they gave her a glass of wine on the plane. I didn't really think much of it, I know the drinking age in other countries is much lower, and I really don't care if she has a glass of wine, we offer it at home to her at dinner on occasion. I thought it a little strange they gave her one, but she was all excited about it being free. But then I read the story and looked up the drinking age and it was 18. I showed her the story and she said they did ask me if I was 18 and I said yes.:faint: I just thought, oh my goodness, she could have been arrested and detained in Dubai. Maybe I shouldn't have shared the story of my delinquent DD.

ETA She is finally 18 now! I guess I can change my sig. And my DS has been 16 for months so I guess I am behind.

I am losing the battle on the someplace warm for our girl's trip. They keep suggesting Seattle. So @afan or anyone else, how yucky is Seattle in early December?

I'm just starting on bank bonuses too, so no first hand experience. But, I did see some reports in the comments on Doc of Credit that you could downgrade the PNC account after you got the bonus to one that only requires $500 in it to stay fee free. Maybe that would be more doable? I think I'm too scared to try downgrading, though.

I know sometimes it can be a challenge to find places to take AmEx, I noticed tonight that LifeTouch takes AmEx so all of us that have school pictures to pay for - here's another option.

I used my Amex for it too! At first I was writing a check, then noticed you could do it online. Score!

I bought some amazon gc to add to DH's account. I don't shop in amazon much. He shops nowhere else. Unfortunately I quickly learned that if he has money sitting there he feels compelled to spend it. Needless to say, I stopped loading his account with gift cards.
