I love credit cards so much!

Interesting thought! I am now hesitant to recommend anybody move their payment date in an attempt to access points early going forward. This particular example has been a royal mess from what I can tell lol.

I did it right before @Haley R with my SOs CSR. At first I didn’t think it worked, but my statement originally closed like the 15th of the month and I moved it up to the first. It closed the first but the points posted like the 3rd or the 4th. Idk what’s happening with her points. Are we sure Chases delay is just having the points going pending? Could this be a new delay where points stay pending longer then one statement close?

Ok great. I’ll plan on getting him an employee card and I’ll open his account a few days after mine.

When I got approved for CIP I created a new login - I figured it was better to keep business cards separate. But it won’t let me login. Is my card still being set up? I want to expedite it but really don’t want to call!
I had to wait for the card to arrive to set up the online account...only way to expedite is to call :(

I need someone to talk me down from the ledge. I know they are awful but SW is 17k pts (and I will be using URs). (ETA: I keep trying to remind myself that it is too early for SW. I usually get better deals inside 3 months. Do I chance it and wait?) This is so tempting...View attachment 348350
Before we had SW companion pass I would regularly check google flights. Put in one way flight and you will see prices for months in the future. I could watch for a few weeks and see changes. I would know what a “good” price was and watch each airlines trends. I did like Sun Country and knew that I shouldn’t have to pay more than $108 one way unless it was a holiday. When I compare to SW with the CP I need to double the UR points.
Looking at many months of flights BNA to MCO there were many flights from $39-89. Prices were higher on holiday weekends

Ohh..stay safe and after Sandy..the gas station lines were horrible

Thanks..after Ivan ('04) I actually saw fistfights. I was fortunate and was "essential emergency personnel" so was able to obtain gas more easily then.

Pensacola gets funny as soon as Jim Cantore is within 100 miles...gas lines get long and Publix is mobbed.

@striker1064 -- best wishes for your family and property's safety!

I wonder if Chase is just slow with the holiday or is it something more system wide? Usually my sad pending points post by the 4th (closes on the 1st) but despite checking three times today...nada.

We are good so far over here in Baldwin County....we closed the office early and schools/daycares closed early. I went to Walmart at 2pm and everyone was civilized! There was even water and bread, I was surprised. I topped off my tank just in case and there weren't many people at the gas station. Stay safe @tink1970 and others in the path of the storm!

Oh, good to hear! Hope you stay safe tonight and tomorrow. :)

I would be shocked if Points showing under the “Next Statement” section don’t post when you actually generate a statement. I’ve never seen that occur and would absolutely contradict the “next statement” language. Right now - whatever is causing this delay is not related to when your statement closes in my opinion. As others have said, it’s widespread, seems either intentional or a system issue AND Chase is able to hide behind the 6-8 week wording in the T&Cs so up to this point nobody can really claim there’s an issue yet.

I am one of the 3 (THREE! Only 3 of us???) respondents that are indeed over 5/24 and not looking back. It should probably be 4 because P2 is also in the same boat!

There's a ton of value and plenty of like after Chase. All of Chase's restrictions, mental gymnastics, and shutdown threats are exhausting to me.

Thanks for checking. Our rental home is on the coast of MS, but we now live in DC. My family is still there though. No one is terribly worried. It sounds like it'll be wind and heavy rain, with some storm surge at low-lying areas.

I suspect Gordon will continue to tighten up, and friction may end up pulling it near the MS/AL border. But I'm not a professional meteorologist, and that's just a guess.

I didn't do the survey (oops!) but DH and I are over 5/24 and no looking back as well.

nothing for tn :(
I'm not keen on driving, but if we could just drive down and fly back I could tolerate that. Flights on SW are sooo high for our trip.
Bummer! Are you looking for fall or spring? Spring won't be out until a couple months before the promo starts and usually covers April and May. But I checked, and it looks like last year's spring drive-out deals didn't include southern states either. So TN might be permanently out.:(

Must update my mental spreadsheet and put Mississippi @striker1064 and Washington DC @striker1064 as same person. Lol I read your posts about DC all the time and honestly am just realizing you are same person. Oy. This may sound bad, but in my mind Hamilton loving and Mississippi do not equate to same person. My bad.

For those that don't follow our SW thread here on the DIS, the next release MAY have been delayed...but I don't think it is definitive yet. Here's the info I posted on that thread:

I check this information in 3 spots:

THIS LINK: https://www.southwest.com/air/flight-schedules/ says: We are currently accepting air reservations through April 7, 2019. On November 15, 2018 we will open our schedule for sale through June 7, 2019. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

THIS LINK: https://www.southwest.com/html/travel-tools/index.html still says: We are currently accepting air reservations through April 7, 2019. On September 27, 2018 we will open our schedule for sale through June 8, 2019. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

The other spot I look is on the advanced search screen there is a text that says: Now accepting reservations through April 07, 2019 And then you click the little "i" logo and it says: On September 27, 2018, we will open our schedule for sale through June 08, 2019. (Date is subject to change; please check back frequently.)

It is not atypical for Southwest to update this date - and the information on these 3 spots doesn't always match. Although not a definitive answer - I'm inclined to believe the later date at this point BUT for the sanity of most people booking flights, I hope that is incorrect.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of the words of encouragement today about my FIL. I received some truly touching comments and messages and I sincerely appreciate my wonderful DIS friends!:grouphug: His appointment is Dec. 6 and I will definitely be reporting back on a hopefully positive outcome!

Long post ahead everyone...

Thanks to everyone who helped out with my questions today! Now that I have everything booked I want to share about my most exciting redemption yet!

Back story: Two years ago, my father-in-law had a massive heart attack. He was home alone doing yard work when a neighbor found him in cardiac arrest and started performing CPR. He was shocked three times before they brought him back and spent the next two weeks in a coma. We're not sure how long he was actually "dead," but it affected his brain and he had to learn how to walk and talk again. He spent 8 weeks in the hospital and rehab before he got to come home, but, incredibly, he walked out of the hospital on his own. He was self-employed and the breadwinner, and has been unable to work since then as he no longer has the aptitude and focus, nor the fine motor skills, to do the type of work he was before. If you talked to him today, you would think he'd had a stroke because he has poor balance and slurred speech. All of this has been tough not only emotionally, of course, but financially as well as my mother-in-law attempts to make ends meet as my FIL continues with a variety of different therapies to try to regain some semblance of who he was.

Fast forward to present day, and a good friend of ours sent us a link to a neuro institute in Florida that has been doing spinal injections on stroke and TBI patients, among others, and is seeing truly miraculous recoveries in terms of speech and mobility. I mean, I almost didn't believe it until I watched videos of several different patients' before and afters. My MIL called and did a phone consult and the institute said my FIL sounds like a great candidate to receive the treatment and has an appointment in December!! We are all thrilled and are hoping that we will see some good results for him, as he is now to the point that he's so self-conscious about his voice that he will hardly speak. While the procedure is not prohibitively expensive ($6,000), it is an unexpected expense for my MIL. Then there's getting to FL... (now you see where churning comes in).

As soon as we got the news that he had an appointment, I told DH that I wanted to cover the expenses for their trip. My MIL is very resistant to us helping with anything (I have to track down the waiter in restaurants to pick up the bill), so I knew I had to be sneaky. I've been keeping an eye on Jetblue and Spirit flights to FLL, and saw a great UR redemption on return Spirit flights for their trip at 3,600 URs each. I texted her this morning and asked her what day they were planning to come back from Florida after the treatment and once she let me know, I booked their return flights and sent her the email confirmation! I know it's not the fanciest of redemptions, but it's a direct flight at a decent hour and they won't need anything more than backpacks for a two day trip down there, so no baggage fees. Before she could argue with me about it, I booked them two nights a Doubletree two miles from the doctor's office on Hilton points and forwarded her the confirmation for that too. She told me she didn't want me to use my points when I could use them for something else for me and DH  I told her I was saving the URs for the Disney trip we're planning to take them on next year, so she could buy me a snack when we get there to pay me back :rotfl:

I still need to do flights down there, but I don't like how late the Spirit flight puts them in, so I'm going to wait and see if Jetblue has a sale and probably book that.

I'm so excited for this trip that I'm not even going on, and really hoping my FIL can get some much needed help!

This is why we do this!!! It is so fun to be able to help someone we care about out.

And let's get serious...I would be that most of us are highly competitive people that love the thrill of the hunt when it comes to this game.

Hey folks. Is it possible to get an AP room-only discount and then transfer the booking to Chase Cruise and Tours so I can pay with points? I have never booked a hotel with UR's or transferred the booking (if that's what it's even called) so this is all new to me.

thanks for being the DP on this!

Good news on the SPG Lux front. We upgraded last week (Wed?) to the SPG Luxury. Amex assured me that we could use the current "old" card as the Lux until the new card arrives. Had a points stay on Thursday night (too late to cancel and change to cash). I bought a $300 Marriott gift card at the front desk Friday morning and had them add it to our room. The only thing on our bill at checkout was the gift card + $12 for the cruise shuttle.

Both the $60 Amex offer credit and the $300 SPG Lux credit have posted! Yay!!

I'm not sure if the $60 Amex offer credit will work if you don't have a stay and just buy at the front desk. Since we had them charge the gift card to our room, it appears as if its a room charge on our statement.

Wow—that’s a fantastic deal!

I’ve never done it but I’m pretty sure people have posted here that they have...
