I have NO idea if it's a good choice to make. I have SPg biz and pers.,and I'm pretty sure my AF is almost due on the pers.- I was planning to cancel it since I don't need it anymore.... is it smarter to upgrade? the benefits of doing this would be..... what? no adding to the 'new cards' rule? why shouldn't I jus apply for the Luxe on its own without upgrading? (I've been away for the past week and so much has changed)
I may have missed this in the flurry of posts but any insights here? why would it be a better choice to upgrade to Luxe than to just apply? the points are the same, and the only benefit I see is the 5/24 rule here....

Ugh. The raise I've been waiting on for months now, that I thought would go through this last paycheck, is just being submitted. For 1% less than what I was told. And this is all coming about because I was underpaid when I was hired in. Basically our old manager was underpaying everyone in the department to overpay someone who had ~5 years with the company and no schooling, but had an interesting relationship with her. So the new management is trying to correct some of this, but the HR manager wouldn't approve the amount they asked for me because then she would have to advocate for it with corporate, which apparently she has no interest in doing (I've seen other things that indicate this too, where she tries to pass off anything difficult). Process is the raise must be approved locally and then by corporate.

At this point, I'm just counting down the days until my anniversary and my employer match for my 401k becomes vested, which is around $11k. Checking my account every day... start the job hunt... 17 days to go...
 At least they say it’s a good time to be job hunting!

Booo that really stinks!! Do you have anything in writing saying you'd be getting X amount of raise? I'd be going over her head with that if you do.

Also the Amex 5 cc rule. That’s the main appeal to me as my other slots are/will be taken.

ETA: FYI there is a targeted offer for 125k some people have gotten for opening it new. You can self-refer to the 100k from the prsnl for 20k more. Also upgrading can be a work around to the no new card rule if you’ve had the Marriott cards.

all this chase talk has me completely unnerved now. Since DH was gonna be 4/24 by OCT,I was gonna go for the SWA CP for him-was gonna wait for the usual dec/jan timeline for that.(likely a pers. and biz) and then possibly go for a Sapphire DD in Feb/March when the next dropped off..... now I'm wildly reconsidering...... SWA has always been the lynchpin of my planning with the CP...... but I'm concerned that all products will be the 48 month rule ...and then we'll be out for both options.(24 mos rule no prob here) trying to figure out if a csp referral might be better asap while it's still 24 mos. language ...so at the least I'll have those UR to use either way....but the reality is those 50k UR are much less valuable than the SWA points+CP together for 2 years.....any insights at all? or should i just wait a couple of weeks to see how this shakes out?

Are you over 5/24? Wondering if you could split the difference...one do sapphire and one do CP?

I didn't want to take the chance on the SW cards later this year, after yesterday's news, so I went ahead and app'd for the SW biz last night. 30 days pending of course. If it goes through I may DD the personals too, but I will get one for sure. With the new sapphire 48 mths and knowing SW wants CP to be harder to attain with Hawaii coming up, I just didn't want to take the chance.

Arghhhh. I hope so! So far the only thing I heard back on pays $15k less than my current underpaid base salary.

Nope, unfortunately. This has all been a mess and I've really just been holding out for that match before moving on. Is it bad if I take a slight comfort from the fact that they'll be pretty screwed if I leave? I'm just coming up on my 3 year anniversary and am the most senior employee outside of my management...

Can anyone make me feel better today about this 48 month thing.

We mostly wanted to stay under 5/24 to focus on SW and UR...for Disney parks and cruises. What is going to be the best strategy going forward? No more 3x on CIP to beef up earnings. Freedom 5x cats are nice, but it really isn't all that many points over a 3 month period.
How else can we get SW points once those cards (assuming likely) go 48 mths too? Is amex to marriott to SW an option? I need to look into amex points. I know nothing about them.

Well it sounds like maybe no one else is happy there either. :scared:

Nope, I'd be the same way. My mom is in a similar situation. She has 40 years experience but works in a very male-dominated workplace and is in a really bad job situation. Makes very little and can't advance. Promised raises over and over again which never show up. Unfortunately, ageism is a thing and she's had no luck finding other work. I can't wait for her to finally be able to quit/retire and leave them up a creek. There's a few choice words I'd like to add in too, but the Dis censors those...

My next door neighbor recently quit his job at 57 with no other job lined up. He isn't retiring. I was thinking...that doesn't seem like a great idea at 57. :rolleyes1 I hope he can find someone to hire him.

I feel that they are awesome! But..I don't fly SW. You can transfer Amex MR 1:1 to Marriott, which is great. Sadly Marriott to SW is 3:1. So doable but not necessarily ideal unless you can't find anything (cough cough Delta) to transfer to with MRs. Still, a workaround if you get a great Amex deal.

It's in the manufacturing industry. Part of their problem is, at least in my location, that they pay the people working on the floor, which only requires a diploma or GED, more than they pay my type of positions requiring a college degree :sad2: So we've had a couple bail because of the BS and the pay difference. And a couple left because they were terrible employees - they should have been fired but my old manager thought it would look more poorly on her to fire them then having people who screwed everything up all the time :confused3 And don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they pay a decent wage to people who didn't go to college, vs making $8 or something. But it's pretty darn hard to stomach sitting here with so much responsibility, and this guy with no education, no responsibility, and no accountability even though he messes things up multiple times a week (huge costly things!) makes $12 more an hour.

Yup, it's awful. I know from experience that there's nothing worse than being in a job you hate. She's also not currently in a position to retire. I feel like the workforce is so messed up. Everybody wants 5 years of experience, making it impossible to find something when you're fresh out of school, but if you don't have a secure job locked down by the time you hit a certain age, they don't want to hire you because "you'll retire soon."

YIKES.

Thank you. Delta has layovers to everywhere from BNA. :(

I’m with you on the SW CP....it saves us a lot of $$ and I’ve made it a priority to have one the last few years...

My current one is good through 12/19...and I was planning on getting it again in early 2020. If the 48 month rule is applied to SW...I’ll switch it up and have P2 get the CP then

If I’m reading correctly you have to wait until October to apply for any cards for your DH....so hopefully we will know more by then
