I love credit cards so much!

All the talk about insurance made me finally remember to call the car insurance about DD being away at school. She couldn't tell me how much I will get back, but hopefully it will be fairly good amount. Need to add my DS soon. Really not looking forward to that.

Only 50 karma in 3 months? I could totally do that. Now to decide which of my handles to use. Click_For_Referrals, or ClickForReferrals, or Link_To_Referrals, or LinkToReferrals?

Personally I like the ones without the underscore, however, I've seen some dense folks post there so the underscore ones should be fairly obvious... in which case you may want to stick with Click_For_Referrals… (and for the exceptionally dense it probably should have been "Click_HERE_for_Referrals")

j/k :) (sorta)

Why have you not already snapped up that gem of a username?

@SouthFayetteFan My referral links I had posted before the new Karma requirements were just removed. I won't be punished in any way for posting those earlier correct?

Question for @SouthFayetteFan or anyone else savvy about Amex referrals. To get all the miles we might need to upgrade both legs of our Emirates flights from JNB to SFO, I need about 66K more MR than I will have after getting the bonus on my Biz Platinum and getting the points that go with the MSR on that card. So I'm thinking I need to get DH a Platinum card. He has plenty of 5/24 room, so I'd get him the personal to keep the MSR at $5k. All I can seem to pull for him right now is the 60K offer. While I'd much prefer the 100K offer, 60K would get us the MR we need, when coupled with the MR from the MSR and a little other miscellaneous spending. I know I can refer him to the same 60K offer that is available publicly for him right now. I also know that Amex caps referral bonuses at 55K MR a year. I already have 40K in referrals. So my question is: If I refer DH to the Platinum, would I get a referral bonus capped at 15K to put me at my 55K max, or will I not get the bonus at all since the full 20K referral bonus would put me over the max 55K? I have a bit of time to see if I can pull the 100K offer for DH, but I don't want to wait too long. Getting his 60K bonus and 15K for me for the referral would make me feel better about taking the lower welcome bonus offer, especially if it means the difference between coach and business on some really long flights. Thoughts??
When you max out AMEX referrals you'll get the remaining points (so you would get the 15k). It's actually a nice way to 100% know you've maxed on a card (because typically the last referral gets shorted a little).

You shall be SHUNNED!
NOOOOO lol - you are fine!

Just to make sure everybody is clear - we are talking about r/churningreferrals here - NOT DISchurners. Everybody is eligible for DISchurners (no karma or strange requirements there) :)

I'm going to need more info on this... haha.
It was super strange - I think to this day it was a mistake. We were still in a normal mortgage product, the PMI should've remained. I called numerous times to make sure it wasn't a mistake because I didn't want to suddenly owe $2,000 of back payments or something.

You mean Amex Membership Rewards Points, right? If by BCP you mean Blue Cash Preferred, that is a cash back card only and does not mix with MR points. In order to keep MR points, you must keep an MR-earning card open. You can apply for any MR card that you wish. Many people recommend opening a Blue for Business Plus to keep your points active - it's a business card that has no annual fee and a great earn rate. You can sometimes be targeted for a 20k/$5k offer, or 10k/$3k is available through referrals.

By 100,000 points offer, do you mean the Amex Platinum? That's kind of a rare offer and you have to be targeted, and it seems fewer and fewer people are getting it these days. You can check your pre-approvals on Amex (from the Amex home page, Cards --> Personal Cards --> Check for Pre-Qualified Credit Card Offers). It may pop up there if you're targeted.

What is the 50,000 offer you're seeing?
Thanks. When I log onto my Amex account I have an offer for 50,000 bonus points to open the Premier Rewards Gold card. I think I got a flyer in the mail last month for a 100 000 point offer but I tossed it, thinking I was taking a break for awhile.

I hate when that happens. Is DH flexible maybe? Enterprise used to offer me to drop me off when I returned cars, maybe he can drop the rental off for you and catch a ride back to his car? And not sure about your body shop, but many places here will let you inspect/pay/get the car keys during business hours and then come back later to actually move the car. This has been helpful as we'd send whoever is closest during business hours to get the keys, then after work come back to get the car. If it's a place that has locked storage, they would park the car outside the gates for us if we asked.
DH is more flexible overall with hours. Our shop isn't close to home though, it's about 45 mins away. We work about halfway between home and the shop. Enterprise is up near the house. I made two suggestions, I might be able to get off at 3 tomorrow, so we could drop the rental off tonight and carpool tomorrow and go after work, or perhaps DHs dad could help - he has an errand to run that takes him past our work down to the area the shop is in, so I said maybe he could pick up DH and take him to the shop, DH could go back to work and we could figure it out from there (he'd have both cars, but we only work about 15mins apart) or because FILs errand is quick maybe he could follow DH back to my workplace, they drop my car here, and he takes DH back to work... DH now wants to drive home, have his dad drive him down to the shop, then meet me at the enterprise location and do an after hours drop off. DH tends to make things like this even more difficult than they need to be.... :confused3

ETA: also really, part of our problem is my work schedule and the fact that there is really no reason for me to be working until 7pm...

50,000 MR points is typically the most that's offered for the Premier Rewards Gold, with the variation being whether you need to spend $1,000 or $2,000 in 3 months to get the bonus. Are you asking about the personal Platinum card, which does have a 100,000 MR offer that's targeted?

I think my fuzzy Disney math is winning out... I know we have our two trips this September, obviously. And then we plan to take the ILs on that cruise trip next June, which will include one or two park days. So I ran 3 scenarios for June... tickets plus dining for one day, two days with cheaper dining, and two days for more expensive dining. Compared dining discounts for Disney Visa, APs, and TIW.

Lowest cost scenario, we would be paying $240 more than we'd need to both get APs vs getting one AP for discounts, and TIW would cost an extra $12 even after discounts vs other discounts.

Medium cost scenario, we would be paying $140 more than we'd need to both get APs vs getting one AP for discounts, but TIW would save us $21 more vs other discounts even after paying the $150.

Highest cost scenario, we would be paying $70 more than we'd need to both get APs vs getting one AP for discounts, but TIW would save us $42 more vs other discounts even after paying the $150.

If DH and I sneak in just one more trip over the year, say a weekend trip with 2 parkhopping days... we win in all scenarios. See fuzzy Disney math...

ETA: And what if we did something really crazy, like went down in August next summer and celebrated our anniversary early before the APs expired... Or what if I can get a refund in the difference for DAH for APs, which is around $60...

ETA2: And this does not account for any souvenir discounts... before those in low cost scenario, we would need to spend $190 over the three trips to break even. DH will not have a problem with that :rotfl: Other scenarios are already lower before any souvenirs.

Yes. I believe I got a flyer in the mail for it last month. Not sure if I should go for it though since I have no immediate travel plans that aren't paid for and nowhere to park the points until I do. I dont want to pay AF's on a card until then.

I guess we’re blessed in rural Ohio too...$1800 property tax yearly on 7 acres with house, barn and pond. Most of that goes to the school. Sales tax is 7.25 I think. We do have a state income tax, but it’s not too bad.

Omg!! We don’t have sales tax but we pay almost $6000 for 1/2 acre. As soon as DD graduates in four years we are moving.

ETA: no state income tax here either.

You changed your pic and I totally forgot you are in the Richmond area. I was just looking at this yesterday. Those flights are terrific aren't they??!! Gotta love DIRECT!

Wait, did I forget you were in the Richmond area too? Goochland? I'm so bad at this :rotfl2: And yes they are! I actually really like Jetblue. I think we are going to stick to driving for this trip, but in the future when I have URs to burn, I'm glad to have this option!
