I love credit cards so much!

Sounds like you have a good plan to meet your needs with flights this year.

You may already know this but Chase will not move CL from personal to business... if you have other Chase business cards with high limits I’d suggest lowering those as well.

I’m not moving any lines, just closing the one sw prem will reduce my overall credit open with chase. I have a lot open with them at the moment.

Not judging...but...
Haha yeah - I’d ONLY advise doing that if somebody had NO use for Delta miles. (I’m definitely in that boat).

Similarly, if somebody has NO use for SW RR points - you can cash those out for Target at 1cpp and the CC offer isn’t that bad even if that’s your plan going in!

And that was so much more appealing when you could do GC > GC at Target. It's still extra money, and you can just shuffle cash around to account for it. But it was nice when they allowed that so if I couldn't cash out directly to the GC I wanted, most likely Target had it for me. I did a bank account bonus that pays out in points for gift cards (no cash so far as I can tell) that I started before Target changed the policy. I sold it to hubby that worst case scenario is I cash out for Target and turn it to Disney since we know we're going back (just not when) and it's not any OOP outlay. So while I wait for the points to actually post I have to formulate another backup plan :)

ETA: Since I was thinking about it I logged in to check on the points (still not here :() and looked at the full list of GC's. Somehow WalMart and Disney did not rank as 'Featured' offerings. I could maybe see Disney, but if Target and Amazon made it, why didn't Walmart??
On a side note they have some travel options where the points seem pretty good, I may have to figure out how many times I'd have to use my debit card to reach that; just for a laugh.

Sounds like a good plan to me.....everything I’d read said to do that to improve the chance of being automatically approved......I did the same last month closed one account and reduced the credit limits on two..before I applied for the CSR this morning....and was approved instantly.
Getting the CP is definitely worth it if you fly SW...we save a lot with it.

I love hearing different pronunciations of things :) how about the midwest where some say worsh instead of wash? And my grandma always said fuh-thar instead or further

We have a few town names in NE that will call you out as a visitor. DH still pronounces Kearney as Kirney - any good nebraskan knows you pronounce it Karn-E! Also Norfolk - the L is an R in disguise ;)

Beatrice ( be-AT-riss) also seems tough for non-Huskers. And as a first grader I moved from (Newport News, VA just outside of Norfolk, VA (pronounced Nor-folk) to Wakefield, Ne 30miles from Norfolk, NE (pronounced Nor-fork). Like that didn't confuse me.. so why the different pronunciations ..well "Wynot"...more Nebraska humor...

when posting this I forgot I was about 20 pages behind so not very timely...lol..

Glutton for abuse here, but I'm back to report that dh and I both got approved for CIP (dh) and Chase Marriott Biz (me). So happy! :)

So, I've outlined an exact plan for applications based on Lain and SouthfayetteFan's advice. Please bear with me if I have a mistake in this. This solid plan will prevent me from posting any other questions on my strategy for several months.

Any corrections you would do on this plan? Thanks as always for your help!

ME:
Marriott Premiere Biz Aug 2018 (approved)
CIP: Jan 2019 (My Bank of America card will fall off Dec 2018 and I will be at 4/24)
CIC: Mar 2019
CIU: May 2019

DH:
CIP Aug 2018 (approved) - 80k bonus

AMEX card Nov 2018

CIC Dec 2018 - 50k bonus

CIU Feb 2018 - 50k bonus

DoubleDip: United, TBD? May 2018

:sad::sad: I'm not crying...it's just...sweat dripping from my eyes.

I hold in my hands...a CSR card. What a day, what a glorious day! :hyper::thumbsup2:goodvibes::yes::

It's a beautiful thing! Just think of all those lovely UR points...

BTW, I got my Amex Biz Green and made my one purchase on it today. I think I've been hanging out with high-end cards too much - the regular plastic actually feels a little flimsy to me (esp. since I've been mostly pulling out my Amex Biz Plat that weighs 10 pounds).

Should I leave open my Amex Travel Credit card? I think I opened it about 6 years ago and never use it. It's been discontinued and the point values are awful. 0 annual fee but I worry about my credit score taking a hit and maybe my score is benefitting from having it open?

I don't think it's just that. Don't know about the Biz Green but the personal Green is the first card to fall apart in hubby's wallet. It usually doesn't make it until it expires before needing a replacement. He had just got a new one and about year later I saw it and asked him when is he due for a new one, it looked pretty bad. He came back with "it's not even cracked yet and I can still see some of my signature and the strip still works". (yep, he waited until it literally didn't work anymore to ask for a replacement the one time. I was surprised people took it, it was missing pieces at the bottom where it cracked under the embossed name) And really, it's not like he uses it a lot anymore, just AmEx offers now pretty much. My free cards seem to have better plastic than that one.

Does anyone else get nervous transferring large numbers of URs to airlines? Every time I do it my stomach is in knots that something will get screwed up!

I over transferred to Delta 18k more than I needed and I wonder if I will ever use those miles for anything. United is our go to, and Jetblue.

You're being too aggressive in my opinion. The order of cards sounds good...but it seems much too fast. Perhaps you have a ton of organic spend and can hit MSRs like crazy but you still need to keep in mind that running too fast can lead to denials (or a shutdown).

YOU:
12/16 BofA Personal 1/24
11/17 SPG Amex Business 1/24 (doesn't count)
11/17 Barclay Jetblue 2/24
11/17 United Personal 3/24
12/17 Freedom Unlimited 4/24
12/17 Marriott Personal 5/24
05/18 Hilton Business 5/24 (doesn't count)
08/18 Marriott Business 5/24 (doesn't count)
  • You seem safe to apply for CIP in January 2019. At that time in Chase's eyes you will be 4/24 (based on how they calculate 5/24) and you will have gotten just one Chase card in the past 12 months (the Marriott Biz).
  • You drop 2 cards in November 2019 and 2 more in December 2019.
  • You still want to try to put 3-4 months between cards if you can...attempting 3 business cards in 5 months seems risky to me.
  • I would potentially do this:
01/19 CIP 4/24 (doesn't count)
04/19 CIC 4/24 (doesn't count)
08/19 CIU 4/24 (doesn't count)
OR you could do...
08/19 CSR/CSP double dip (6/24 - BUT you will be back to 4/24 in Nov 2019)
12/19 TBD but now you have some options.

HUSBAND:

12/17 Barclay Jetblue 1/24
01/18 CSP 2/24
01/18 CSR 3/24
03/18 SPG Biz 4/24 (doesn't count)
05/18 Marriott Personal 4/24
08/18 CIP 4/24 (doesn't count)
  • It seems fine to have him apply for some AMEX card in Nov if you really need him to because you have so much organic spend and need an MSR
  • His next card doesn't drop off until December 2019 so it's ONLY biz cards for awhile
  • Again you still want to try to put 3-4 months between cards...attempting 4 Chase cards in 6 months seems risky and unnecessary
  • I would potentially do this:
12/18 CIC 4/24 (doesn't count)
4/18 CIU 4/24 (doesn't count)
8/18 United & TBD Double Dip 6/24 (BUT he will be back to 3/24 in Jan 2020).

SUMMARY

IF your goal is to go way over 5/24...and just forget about Chase...AND you don't care about the shutdown risk (which is OK...if you are leaving Chase, why would you care)...then maybe your plan works. BUT if you want to continue to be eligible for Chase cards...the original plan is just moving way too fast in my opinion. You will get denials, you will risk shutdown. IF you have so much organic spend that you need more MSRs then you should be looking into things like the AMEX Biz Plat $10k spend or something crazy with a HIGH MSR to distract you and help cool your jets. :) Hope this all helps!

Call the main Staples support line at 1-800-333-3330 (I’m posting via my phone, so I can’t remember it exactly but pretty sure that’s the right number). Ask the rep you get to transfer you to the Giftcardmall team because you are having issues with activation. Once you get the next rep, provide your order number and explain you are having issues. They should be able to look up the cards without the number even, just order number, and activate them for you. Hope that works for you! Mine are all set and 2/3 used via MasterPass.

This worked and my card is activated! Thank you!

For future reference for anyone in this same predicament, you can call the GiftCardMall team directly at 877-426-2551.

So your suggested plan put a bit of space between the cards I outlined. I can't go for the CSP/CSR double dip because I already have a CSP card (over 24 months but I don't think they will issue me another one, will they?) My plan is not to leave chase but to accumulate as many URs as possible. If I do go with AMEX it will put my spend in Membership Rewards which I don't have many, but could help in transferring them to an airline, which I could be doing with my URs to United for a future trip.

I modified my dates for applications but I DO NOT want to get shut down. If I get a denial I'll modify those dates further, I guess.

Anyone have all of these Chase business cards, both players? Is it unusual to have all of these Chase cards within 2-3 years?

With regards to the CSP, you can cancel it 30 days prior (or product change) and then just reapply and do the double dip. That's the real definition of churning right there :) As a matter of fact...I'm not sure why you haven't already PCed that to a Freedom card? lol! Your husband has a CSP AND a CSR...there's no reason for you to have a CSP too. And when your Husband's CSP comes up in January I'd PC that to a Freedom too. And don't forget to cross-refer each other where applicable so you earn those points too.

If you want to accumulate as many URs as possible then stick with the dates I laid out. If you get more aggressive you could risk shutdown which would be devastating to your goal. As outlined above, you could earn almost 500k in URs in the next year! That's about as good as it gets!

If you need some extra cards...then putting AMEX MR cards in there is good too. You could get a BB+ and then refer husband to a BB+. Same with BGR, Biz Plat, Biz Green...

Keep in mind though, if you get 10-12 cards in the next year...you will eventually start to run out of cards. Take your time with the MSRs, maybe do some PC to freedom cards and take advantage of the 5x categories. At the end of the day - do what you feel is best, but the plan I've laid out is SOLID in my opinion and I spend WAY more time thinking about strategies like this each day than I should... so I know what I'm talking about hahaha! :)

Anyone verify the online RMN Staples $10/$75 deal goes through on GC?
I've done it twice... once just a $100 Visa GC, that $10 is in my Paypal account as of yesterday :)
Last week bought ink and a $15 Darden GC to get me over $75, it's pending.
