I'd suggest you stick to using a manageable number of portals that will earn you "currency" that you can use, whether that's Ultimate Rewards points, AA/UA/SW miles, or straight up cash, so that the rewards from your spending aren't diluted between more than half a dozen programs.
THIS. I often go with the highest payout amongst a handful of portals, but thinking I should reconsider and actually use a short list for the reasons you stated.
I don't need 2 Amex Platinums overlapping each other! The Platinums have a terrible base earn rate and its bonus categories aren't very useable to me. Like
@Ngwira said above, that's why most of my actual spend goes to Chase. I pretty much only put MSR, Amex Offers, and big ticket items that need purchase protection and extended warranty on my Amex cards.
I think strategically, where this card fits in is, when my MB Plat comes up for renewal next April or May, it'll make it easy for me to cancel it because I'll have the Biz Plat, which will continue to offer me Centurion Lounge Access and Hilton/SPG/Marriott Gold status, while I get what I need to done with Chase, and then apply for the Charles Schwab Platinum later in the summer when I (maybe?) cancel the Biz Plat.
This will be me as well...if I try for the Biz Plat. Started on the path to accumulating MRs once I pulled the trigger on the Personal Plat in May (had a ED from college which I am thankful I opened since now I will never have to worry about having a card to keep MR points alive), and now will likely be opportunistic as well as I continue the quest to amass MRs before cashing out (maybe all maybe a portion) via the Schwab to cap things off. I actually do LOVE Amex with regards to their purchase protection. They make it incredibly painless and I've used the card despite a lower earn rate to utilize the benefit. Had a few things I had to make claims for and it was a breeze.
That's the really crazy thing, Chase made the Ritz better and now.. they're yanking it.
Yeah, MS is a possibility. I've never looked into it around here, it makes me uncomfortable. But I could likely open a PNC account for her. PNC denied me a while ago, but I have many more new bank accounts. I bet if we waited 30+ days from her last account, she'd be able to get it.
I hope.
I know
@speedyfishy (NOVA) and
@SBWB48 (MD) do a bit of MS around your area. I doubt they'd let a MSR get in the way of absolute certain FOMO.
MSing isn’t to bad if you are comfortable. Chase is also so easy with allowing bank funding. It’s tricky getting MOs in this area for me, but I found one
Walmart that works. And no one cares if I get the giftcards with my name on them.

Yes, MS can be uncomfortable at times, but I will say, it only gets easier once you'd figured out a routine. Mine has been which grocery stores give me the least amount of hassle (Harris Teeter, I heart you) and which WM can you find with the shortest line and cashiers that just want to go home. Fortunately, I have found my routine and in doing so, it has become less daunting (never was terrified, but more 'shy' I guess lol) and more tedious

. I have thresholds in terms of whether it is worth my time and what the returns are (MSR, profit > $X); have slowed down considerably recently because the "juice wasn't worth the squeeze". But for an MSR like the Biz Plat, I'll be diving right back in again
Welp, pulled the trigger. Will be trying PNC funding next month. If for some reason that doesn't work, I will have questions.
Auto approved for $29k credit limit. One of the things that really annoys me about Chase - it appears part of their shutdown criteria may include too much credit extended. Then they turn around and give you a huge credit limit on new cards. I SM'ed to lower it right away though.
And it appears all links for the Ritz card are now dead, so I'm glad I did it when I did. Hope anyone else that was interested was able to grab it.
Congrats! I thought about it last night, pondered it this morning, and POOF, it was gone by the time I went back to it an hour ago. Not meant to be I guess...
It's scary how closely our plans align (previously mentioned during the Chase Biz card discussion). I'm thinking of the Biz Plat shortly (call after work lol) and likely squeezing in the Marriott Premier if possible, but need to assess my CP strategy since I was planning for it at the end of the year, but now with new restrictions, I may have freed up a slot...
Other than the fact that I just got the Citi AA Biz and want the Hilton Biz as well...this is mapping out to be a

next few months. Didn't think I could top the $17K MSR from March, but $10K + $2.5K + $3K + $XYZ =
And here I was thinking I just wrapped up my CIC x2 and will just cruise with the AA Biz
