I love credit cards so much!

I dont post on here too often (more of a lurker) but I'd thought you'd all appreciate this.

DH got a new job (yay!) but he needs an entirely new wardrobe (going from jeans to suits). He was looking at shoes online yesterday and (jokingly) wanted my opinion on $600-$1200 shoes and added "don't you have an MSR to meet?" :P:D Even when I think he's not listening, he is!

You know... Amex Offers often has great deals on Allen Edmonds shoes, Saks, Bloomingdales, etc. I think you need to get some Amexes. So, you know, you can be targeted for those kinds of offers. :ssst:

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, I skimmed but couldn't find it. I'm booking a complicated extended family trip down the road, so I want to make sure I get this correct. If I book a trip with chase, or direct and transfer it to chase, but then a discount code comes along, can chase travel adjust the reservation and give me the credit? Or am I better off rebooking direct, cancelling the first trip an transferring the new reservation? The trip is not until 2020 so I have time, but it's a late Jan early Feb trip and there always seem to be discounts out around that time. I've got plenty of UR sitting around and will probably continue to accrue before this trip since it's so far out. I would like to stay deluxe if I can work it out, but toying with the idea of renting points vs using chase, or a combo to get all the rooms covered so I'd have to book something at the 11 month mark which is before the discounts are typically released.

:D
I like Omaha too, and I've flown through there many times. I just always feel like the smaller airports you don't have to worry so much about getting there super early or security being bad because they're just can't be that many people...
our last trip we loaded the kids in the car at 3:30am. got into play clothes when we got to the airport. 3 people in line at bag check in, maybe a dozen at security. Much different experience than the larger airports. waiting in lines.

Would my CSP allow $1.25 for 1 UR this way? Seems like you can save quite a bit this way, if so. I've already made my deposit directly with Disney. I don't currently have enough points to pay off the package (partially contingent on whether I would get 25% bonus on UR) but since I made the deposit, I can wait to pay with points right? Is it the same due date of 30 days prior to trip?

I'll just concur with previous responses :) But yes, as long as you're within 30 days of booking with Disney you can transfer it to Chase as the travel agency and then pay it off with final payment is due. Make sure you check with the agent that answers the phone how paying with UR points would work. If they say it has to be paid with points at the time of transfer you may want to try another agent. All UR points have to used at the time of first payment, which on a transfer should usually be final payment, but some agents insist it has to be at the time of transfer. If you have a remaining balance after points it has to be paid with a UR earning card. (I would assume you'd use the CSP since you'll get 2x points for it since a package should be travel)

Regarding the CSR's travel credit, we used most of ours with our EZPass toll replenishments. So we were credited $300 for $300 worth of charges we were going to pay with a CC anyway and were part of the everyday budget. That means I look at the CSR as a $150 AF card rather than the scary $450 I was charged :) Just something to think on when it comes time for the CSP AF next year.

Good to know about the travel credit! We have several trips coming up (only one flight though) and could easily use travel credit. Wondering now if I should refer my DH to CSR...I've been following gift card deal page and now that GC->GC is basically gone, UR points seem much easier and more lucrative anyway

You can only refer people for cards that you hold. So you could refer him to the CSP but not the CSR. That would have to be a new application.

Ugg, I’m so frustrated. I had that pretty little offer and took a minute to screenshot and post my question and poof it was gone. Never to be seen again.

That's concerning, I've never used the card match site. Did you leave the page? I kind have thought as long as we had the page open we'd be good to apply if we wanted to take a few minutes to research or something. But if that's not the case I'll have to rethink that. Yikes, that sux.

Chase can apply the discounts for you when you call in! I just did this with my reservation. I haven’t received my refund yet, but I attribute that to a Disney since they take forever to refund. I had no issues getting the discount applied.

@MrsAlexis using the UR’s for Disney does make a lot of sense. When I called this week the TA double checked transfer of package needs to happen within 30 days of first booked. (But you could always see if you could cancel and rebook). If I were you I would think about having your husband get the CSR. As stated above the $300 travel credit makes up for the fee when you factor in the better redemption value. We have used the $300 travel credit on rental cars. Using the CSR on rental cars makes sense since it has the awesome insurance (you don’t have to pay for extra car rental insurance). The nice thing about paying for the Disney trip with UR’s is that you can also use gift cards to pay for it as well. Between UR points and gift cards it is less “real money.”

Highly recommend the Allen Edmonds if new shoes are needed. They're the only dress shoes I wear now.

Story of my relationship with Amex. :sad1:

That's concerning, I've never used the card match site. Did you leave the page? I kind have thought as long as we had the page open we'd be good to apply if we wanted to take a few minutes to research or something. But if that's not the case I'll have to rethink that. Yikes, that sux.

So some good news and some bad news. First the bad, I called Amex to discuss my frustration with losing the 100k offer and after being bounced around a few places all I got was the usual wow, that's a good offer, I wish I could pull that up (I'm serious, that was the reply when calling the new application and the existing cardholder lines). To be fair, the existing cardholder rep was very professional and tried a bunch of things for me, but no go. As expected there was nothing they could do, so I did have them lodge a formal complaint on my disappointment with their random offer changes. Don't expect it to go anywhere but I was pretty frustrated at that point.

The good news. So I did some searching and found a DoC post about what happens when you make some typos in your name/address on the amex prequalified offer site (on the amex website, not cardmatch) and after some trying I was able to get the offer for DH. So I quickly applied (just did a quick screenshot of the terms) and he was approved. But of course I have no idea where the card is going because of the typo that involved entering a previous address (I did use the correct address on the actual application though). DH did get the confirmation email and we even have the virtual card number, but I've read reports that even though I corrected the address on the application it will still be sent to the old address. So I'll have DH call later and see if he can get that corrected (along with the typo in his name, darn browsers and their form prefills...).

For those interested, I used the process in this comment.

@miztressuz, here's exactly what I did when I got the offer (then lost it) from cardmatch. Went to cardmatch website (Chrome browser on my iphone), entered in my accurate information and that pretty 100k offer was right at the top. I clicked the orange Apply button and was taken to an amex application site. I opened the terms in a separate browser window and did a quick save. Came over here to post my original question (I use a seperate mobile browser for this site so I didn't navigate away from the applicaiton) and then went back to browser to apply. By that time (it wasn't more than 10-15 min) the application link had expired. I tried a bunch to get it to come back up using cardmatch but nada.

Here's my fun small airport story.

One time I was flying out of Lincoln back to CO for school. The 'terminal' is just a large waiting room with probably 100 seats and a vending machine, and a unisex bathroom, if I'm remembering correctly. Security is the bag screener, a single table with the rollers, maybe 6 tubs to put items in, and a walk through metal detector. So I'm sitting waiting for my plane, already through security, and the TSA agent walks into the room...

"Somebody left this duffel bag in security..."

Yeah, they just brought it in and gave it to the person. Can you imagine if you left your bag at security at a big airport? :rotfl2:

I looked at the parksleepfly site and it looks like most of the airport shuttles from hotels won’t be running as early as we need them to. A lot of them don’t start running until 4-7 am. Our flight is at 5:30 am so we may just pay for airport parking. Dh said he found a hotel room for $70.

So after posting this I realized it's been a little too long since I had my discount applied and that I should've seen our refund by now. I logged into DME and see that it's showing as an $89 credit to my Disney account- like I could charge things on my magic band and they would just start applying the credit to it. Now this would be fine for this trip since it's just $89, but I don't really want to have this happen next year when I'm booking three rooms and potentially have hundreds of dollars hanging out on my Disney account after discounts applied. I called Cruise and Tour and Amanda is currently contacting Disney to see what's going on. She said it may be that Disney is refunding Chase and then Chase will refund me and that not everything has been processed yet. We'll see. It's not the end of the world for this trip, but just something others might want to be aware of.

ETA: just hung up with Chase. They contacted Disney and they said it’s theie mistake in making it a room credit. They’re going to remove it and refund it to my credit card. Amanda at Chase said it might take a billing cycle to show up, so I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Congratulations!

I've read the same DPs. For the Amex Platinum, it can be expedited (some say it's automatically expedited), so you could have DH call in to request the card expedited as a way to make sure it's going to the correct address. The Platinum customer service line is 1-800-525-3355. Also, Amex does a "soft pull" of the credit report that they check for your state to generate prequalified offers for DH. If you enter a mangled name to check for prequalified offers, there are DPs that say those mangled names end up on the credit report as "aliases" so you may want to eventually check and clean up (dispute those aliases on) DH's credit report.

Congrats on the approval !

And thanks for the detail. My takeaway here for card match is be decisive and act fast... not always two of my strong suits. I think I'll leave that for hubby to do it :p

My first statement hasn't even closed yet on CSP. What are the odds that I contact Chase and say oops applied for wrong card, let's make this CSR?
