I love credit cards so much!

I opened a SW plus last May also and the AF hasn't posted yet either. I already got the anniversary points though.
If you opened in May...your AF may show up tonight around midnight. It's typically the 1st day of the 1st month after you opened your card.

For those wondering, most people can get their anniv. points before the AF posts and is due...but for some people if you hit the date lottery the long way (basically based on the day you applied, and your statement cut date), you can get caught with the points posting after. It's strange and hard to explain but it can happen.

I think cards opened in May will have their AF posted on the day the card was opened in May, but posting in June (that might make sense) . Example if the card was opened on May 5th, the fee should post on June 5th. Look back a statement or two and it should tell you when the fee will post.

It's actually the 1st of the next month (regardless of when the card was opened) but you are correct, a prior statement will give you warning of when it will post.

Phew... just had to catch up on five pages after spending last night at a concert! Ended up with free third row seats to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill thanks to my mom! Two different people gave her tickets to this concert in the last two days!! We gave away one set of seats to someone in line last night. I told my mom she needs to play the lottery today!

Couple of things...

@Lain just wanted to say thank you for serving on jury duty, whether or not you were picked! People don't realize how extremely difficult it can be to actually get people to show up to jury duty, which in turn slows down the justice system, inconveniences witnesses, prevents somebody from receiving a timely trial, and delays victims from gaining closure. Those of us in court thank you :)

Secondly, and less importantly, I received what appears to be a somewhat personalized e-mail from Plastiq last night from someone named Colin. Did anyone else get this? I only say it's personalized because it has my name, is not sent as a BCC as far as I can tell, and has a typo haha.
Having sat on a federal jury trial, I never want to do that again. I felt horrible sending someone to prison probably for a very long time. (I think he was facing 3 strikes rule), all over a dime bag of some illegal substance. I was only hold out since it didn’t flow like Law and Order. There were no fingerprints on a gun and even though it was in the middle of the street in a very busy area, there wasn’t a single eye witness. (My fellow jury mates were like that doesn’t happen in the inner city.) And the guy who was trying to buy the dime bag story was laughable. I had always wanted to be on a jury but nope never again.

Good Morning!! I've been lurking and reading your amazing posts for a few days and I think I'm ready to take the credit card plunge! We travel to WDW at least once a year, and we do a few weekend trips throughout the year. We already have a SW card and use the points for flying. I'm curious about the Citi Prestige card with the 4th night free at a hotel, as well as the Chase Sapphire cards. How difficult is it to redeem the rewards? For example, we are staying 3 nights in July at BC...could I open the Citi Prestige card and add on the 4th night? Any advice, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!
Hi - welcome to the thread! Lurking and reading is a GREAT way to figure out if this is for you. Here are some thoughts on your situation:
  • You use "WE" a lot...something to keep in mind is that if you have a spouse that will also apply for cards you are in what we call "2 player mode" and that's cool because Credit Card issuers will look at you both separately (meaning you can both get the same card and double your earnings)
  • Additionally, there can be opportunities to refer each other to cards so you earn a referral bonus AND the signup bonus
  • Do you have a business, or any sort of side hustle that could qualify as a business? (rental property, Sell things on Ebay, sell cookies, teach piano, consulting, etc.)... :) If you do that opens up some additional cards that can generate a GREAT return
  • I'd invite you to join our private reddit group DISchurners where we keep track of some of the best tips from the thread. You also could potentially support another DISer when you apply. If you are interested send me a PM here on the DIS and I'll get you setup.
  • Regarding the Citi Prestige...the 4th night free is a nice benefit. BUT we set our sights far higher here...how about all ALL nights free! I would not advise the Prestige card right now as it has no signup bonus. The last time it did have a bonus it was worth close to $1,000. That may come back around later this year.
  • For now I'd focus on Chase cards (and I think others have shared that advice as well).
I'd keep posting, ask questions, don't apply for anything until you've gotten a couple of trusted pieces of advice here, and consider joining DISchurners. You'll find us to be a helpful group, and dozens of people have been able to pay for multiple trips IN FULL based on the tips shared here. I personally am soon to complete earning enough points to cover an $8,000 trip to Disney World in January (all paid for by Credit Card Signups and related benefits) :) I don't say that to brag but rather to show you what's truly possible if you work at it.

Thank you! Now if I had just known that before I checked every day for the last two weeks, haha. Any tips for calling in for a retention offer?

I typically will say that my travel patterns have changed but I still would love to keep the card open, just not sure the AF is justified. I also have been known to throw out that I'm using a competitor card more (i.e. my AMEX Delta). Make sure they know you are just considering your options so they don't just go and close it...that has happened to people before. If they say no to any offer, be polite and don't get discouraged. Just HUCA (HangUpCallAgain) a few days later and try the same spiel. I think it took me 4 calls on my Premier and 3 on my Plus to get both fees waived. Ultimately if they say no, have a plan on whether you actually want to cancel or if you want to keep it open.

I just realized you can't PM yet since you just joined. You need to get to 10 posts and then wait about 30-45 minutes. So ask a bunch of questions and up your post count :p

To join DISchurners in the meantime you need to have a reddit name. If you don't have one register at reddit.com (a lot of people use the same or similar name there as here). Then just @ me here on this thread with your Reddit Name and I'll get you setup.

With all the Plastiq talk I have a question? I used Plastiq for my life insurance payments and everything went smoothly. I was going to attempt to do my Bank of America car payment this way also.
When I go through the steps : Bank of America and then the correct address. Do I do paper check? and then do What business type should I select? or will this even work because it is Bank of America? Do I change the name somehow? I looked at Lain's reddit post which was helpful but I guess I am looking for specific help with this. this will be with a CIP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you have the Marriott app, it makes it really easy - leave your hotel as planned on Sunday, then go in and checkout on the app on Monday morning :o)

All this talk about Hamilton and Chicago. We have season tickets that will get us 4 seats at the touring show coming here next season - yay. Had to get an extra 2 tickets for the season because my little one is just as obsessed with Hamilton as her big sister and there was no way I could just bring my teenager. The season tickets (far back, but a good view) were about $220 a seat, so I see it as getting Hamilton tix for all of us and getting 5 or 6 other shows for free :o)

They put a caveat that you had to ALSO donate $100 to the theater to have access to the pre-sale for tickets, then cut off the pre-sale list like 6 days after the season ticket renewals were sent. Fortunately I had faxed in my season renewal (and my $100 of extorted cash) a few hours before their cut off, so I should be able to buy 2 more tickets in the pre-sale. It's such a circus!

Thanks to all this Hamilton chatter I just bought our Hamilton tickets for our London trip in November. We are actually going on Thanksgiving! I booked our flights using UR points flying into London and out of Paris. We are taking our 3 boys and have AirBnBs booked for both places using Venture points. This will be our boys first International trip and my first time to London and Paris. So excited.

You're not alone!

Though I tried the lottery here in Denver when it was in town...

I know almost nothing about it other than it’s about Alexander Hamilton and written by Lin Manuel Miranda.

I have been trying to decide what to see in NYC this Christmas though. I’d like to surprise my mom with tickets. I’d love to see Moulin Rouge, which I’m sure my mom would enjoy, but we have a tradition of seeing The Nutcracker our in by our local ballet so I thought it might be cool to see the NY ballet do that.

Great, this helps a lot, thank you again :)

I feel like I’m the only one on this thread who hasn’t seen or will be seeing Hamilton in the near future :rotfl2:

I haven't either, though a friend and I tried the lottery when it was here in Seattle. I don't get the hype. I was much more interested in seeing the Romy and Michelle musical but wasn't in the mood to go alone when it was here. I am reading My Dear Hamilton a novel of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton which is by the same two ladies that wrote America's First Daughter about Jefferson's oldest daughter Patsy. It's almost making me want to see Hamilton. It's a really good book, as was the first if you are into historical novelizations.

THERES A ROMY AND MICHELLE MUSICAL?!

If I ever go to NYC at christmas time I'd love to see the Rockettes, I think they would be fun to see. It's also something that's only in NYC. That's part of why we saw a cabaret show when we were in Paris, it's not something we really have here. We didn't see one at the Moulin Rouge though. I'm going to work on my photo's and doing a trip report and the hotel reviews so I'll mention it there :)

Thanks. How do you know the shipping charge is being waived? Seems like a stupid question, I know, bu the reason I ask is because while the shipping choice options all had fees, I was seeing $0 in my cart next to shipping. I assumed shipping would be added before I completed checkout, but now I'm wondering if maybe it was because it was being waived.

You'll see it when you get to the page where you put the CC info in, I think. There's a box towards the bottom where you're required to pick a shipping option, the first one will be regular shipping and it'll either say 1.95 or 0 next to the radio button there. If you're buying more than $200 then that option disappears and you only have some kind of tracking option which is like 9.95 or something. (but then again if using the offers I wouldn't imagine you'd be buying that much since you can't split payment that I could see)
The cart doesn't update the shipping until you've picked one of the options and you can't move forward until you pick an option. Then once I picked an option even if I cleared my cart and started over the shipping would show that option by default and not be $0, I think.

Was it @Artygal90 whose friend keeps getting 120k CIP mailers? I'm seeing on /r/churning that these mailer codes are transferrable. So if your friend doesn't want them...

Yep! That was me! I haven't taken that box of papers with the envelopes to the shredder yet...maybe I'll ask tomorrow. They are mailers for her business - would there be any impacts to her company or her personal credit if I used the mailer code to fill out an application in my name as a sole proprietor for my business? (I peeked on Reddit, didn't find any answers there but maybe I'm not looking in the right places). I also work for her business so it could get REALLY awkward if somehow this messes her finances up and also wouldn't want to do that to a friend :/
