I love credit cards so much!

I’ve been told twice by Chase now that you can only pay with URs at the time of booking. You cannot apply additional URs later. I called and modified by WDW reservation with Chase this past Wednesday and asked again if I could apply any URs since I had modified the reservation and she told me that the only way to pay with URs would be to cancel the entire reservation and rebook it.

ETA: I did not originally pay with URs, I paid with cash the first time.

This is my understanding as well, so I am surprised at the DPs of people transferring a reservation and being able to pay with URs.

Generally there are no fees for transfer between accounts. But with online savings accounts, they are generally limited to 6 transactions per month. If you go over 6 transactions, then you will incur fees.

You can usually set up a paycheck direct deposit to any account that you want. I would make sure that you can easily access those funds so that you can pay bills. Some banks are easier than others because processing times can be slow.

As for timing, there isn't really a limit to bank bonuses like there is with credit cards. You might want to read more about it on Doctor of Credit. He gives a good review. He also lists DPs for which cards work for CC funding for certain bank bonuses. Some will post as a purchase and some might post as a cash advance, which is bad.

Thanks. I have been looking at DOC posts and also reddit but I haven’t found an intro for dummies/tutorial/banks 101 style article that I was hoping for. I guess if there were any major pitfalls, I’d have read about them by now. I suppose I should just dive in and learn as I go, lol.

SO’s CIC came yesterday and the MSR is already complete with an engagement ring purchase! I’m picky and wanted to help pick it out lol. I kinda also want the proposal to happen when we visit Disneyland.

DH took me when picking out a ring. I think he was worried he would mess it up and I would be unhappy. Before we went, I chose 4 styles that I liked and then when we got to the store, he picked from those. He wanted to make sure I was happy enough with the size too. :P I opted for one just under 1 carat that was much higher quality than the ones that were 1 carat+. It was also so much cheaper to get the one just under 1 carat. Then with the savings, I got to pick a diamond eternity band for my wedding ring instead of just a plain band. :D

ETA: He couldn't propose to me until his parents met my parents. It is a cultural thing. So both sets of parents (plus DH's brother) came for a weekend and he proposed in front of everyone. Disneyland sounds nicer.

And that was a time when I took out a new credit card for a purchase. DH was a Canadian citizen and didn't live in the US, so I actually had to buy the ring.

I'm definitely interested in hearing your experience with booking the cruise, as DCL is one of our favorite ways to vacation and it's not cheap! I would love to be able to book with URs. I'm wondering if Chase would be able to book on opening day or if we'd have to wait until it's open to the public. Also wondering how it would work with an OBB placeholder.

I am wondering about the OBB too. I am assuming I can choose to notnput down my normal ta next time I make an OBB and transfer it to base once I get home.

Opinions on 'value'..... which is worth 'more'- double dip SWA apps with CP,(based on current knowledge of rules and cards) or a double dip with sapphires (basic signup bonuses) -overall value? I don't have to decide immediately, but I have to decide within a few months. Initially I was 'holding' for the swa, but now I'm reconsidering. (we have used a cp faithfully for about 3 trips a year on average for about 8 years) wwyd?

I lean towards CP. we fly more than 3x a year though. Maybe for 3x a year the UR would be better, but remember you get the sign up points from sw also.

Your ring sounds beautiful. I didn’t trust SO with getting me a ring either lol. He knows nothing about jewelry and honestly I’m not super “girly” so I didn’t know a lot either. We went looking weeks ago and learned about the color scale, clarity and different cuts lol. Once we saw some rings in purpose and looked at the diamond charts we designed the ring on brilliant earth. They have a 30 day refund policy so if I don’t like it we can return it.

I think that’s so sweet your family was there for the proposal!!

From what I understand you can only make one payment using URs. When I moved my booking over to Chase she asked if I wanted to make that payment then or when I had all the points to cover it since you cannot apply URs more than once. Now if you booked with Chase they may require that payment up front but mine was a transfer (I just paid the $200 direct to Disney) and I was not required to make any payment to Chase at that time, just needed to have it paid off by Disney's 30 day package terms.

If you assume you can get Disney gc's at a 20% discount (you can!) + booking with Costco saves about 8%(ish), your 9K price drops to $6,480. I've thought about doing this but since I can save on the cruise in other ways, I don't think its the best use of UR points necessarily. But then again, I'm spending 40K Marriott points on a $300 room this June, which is not the best redemption rate. Curious to know other's take on this. We love DCL!

I must be really bad at the gift card game, because I don’t get them that much off. I won’t buy them for a whole trip either, because I don’t want to be stuck with Disney gift cards if plans change. So usually I just get a few hundred bucks worth for incidentals.

ETA:
I am thinking in terms of taking the kids only on last minute vgt rates and the convo to DH needs to be “free cruise on points.”
For our normal family dcl I will still pay with cc.

I did get the Lowe’s $10/$50 for gift cards and occasionally pick up one free. I’m impressed with you paying whole trips that way!

I could see how you could transfer one and the pay with all the URs you want to use then. That’s actually how I’m hoping to book my 2019 trip this fall after (hopefully) booking a bounce back offer. But I just don’t see how you can continually pay with URs. The two agents I had made it really clear to me that it wasn’t possible. I wish it was true because that would make life easy for me!

I think the difference is when they are transferring from Disney they have already paid the required deposit to disney so no money is due until the final deposit window...which is when they will apply their UR and then any cash necessary.

Maybe so. It’s just odd that both agents said I had to use them at the time of booking, but as we all know they are certainly not as knowledgeable as we would all hope! And I guess if you’re transferring the reservation it’s not “booking.”

Need cc advise. I need sw points to book January flights for family. Just about done with my spy bz spend which I think I can transfer to sw, but need flights for 6 of us. No more chase until after feb 2019 as I am 8/24 and SO is also out until 2019 lol/24. Are there other ax bzn cards that I could get that could be used somehow for sw?

Yes I think this is the key.

I really now want to rebook my fall room with Disney and transfer to Chase and see what happens. I’m not really intending to pay for this trip with URs, but I’d throw 5000 at it before final payment is due just to make sure I can do it. If that’s the case and I can book one bounceback room this fall and transfer it and continue to accrue points, that could be a real game changer for me in how I’m planning to book our 2019 trip.

I’ll report back...

How about a cashback card like the Discover IT? It is giving 5x back on grocery this quarter. Then use the cashback to pay cash for SW flights? Amex also has some good cash back cards. One gives 6x back on groceries.

I do erewards surveys for SW points. Slow earner, but it does build over time. Last year I earned enough doing surveys for 2 round trip flights to FL for this summer. You can also shop online through the portal to earn SW points.

And if you have a Chase card that earns UR points you can transfer them to SW is you have a Sapphire (some other Chase cards also transfer to SW).

Yes just made it this past week. She went to apply my points and I thought it sounded a bit higher than I expected so I told her to hang on and I calculated it at a few less. Turns out their screen shows them the total package amount and does not consider payments made to Disney so after she looked at another screen she was able to confirm the $200 was made and adjusted their side to just require the remaining balance. It was super simple since I just emailed her asking her to call me instead of having to bounce around on the phone. So in the end I used a Bounce Back offer with Dining only added from Disney and moved it and paid all but the initial $200 with UR points. :cool1: One note tho, before you move it to Chase call and make any arrangements you need since at that time you own the reservation, Afterwards it becomes a TA owned reservation and you'll need to have Chase make changes.

This is SO HELPFUL because this is EXACTLY what I want to do. I’ve never done a bounce back offer, but I’m going to neee three separate rooms for 2019 so I’m hoping I can get a bounceback offer for one room and then just book the other two with whatever available discounts Disney has. Thanks for sharing!!

This is exactly what I did. Booked a bounce back while at Disney with the dining plan only and paid the $200. Once I got home I got a form from Chase to start the process to have it moved over, this MUST be done within Disney's 30 day window from the booking date. It took about a week for Disney to process the form and then Chase owned it. Your MDE will change a bit, the make a payment will vanish so then you know it got transferred. That point the reservation does not require a payment so you can sit and wait until you have the points, make sure you make the final payment before 30 days out by Disney's terms! This was all done with ticketless packages, Room only might be a bit different terms...
