I love credit cards so much!

I've heard of people having 3 "business" cards with Chase :)

If your CIC is 9 years old...why not apply for CIP. Then cancel the CIC a couple months before applying for SW Biz. Then at the anniv. of your CIP you downgrade it to a CIC. Then you're only "without" a CIC for a few months. Since the CIC doesn't report on your personal credit report it's not helping your AAoA anyyways... Food for thought :)

Winner winner chicken dinner! Thanks for the great suggestion!

You guys, I need help with a decision! I've been planning to apply for the CSR soon (was going to do it today), and I kind of ignored the talk on the new CSP bonus, because I doubt we'd want/be able to spend 20k on that card when we'll have other MSR's to make, but I was just reading about it on Reddit and I saw that it has no annual fee.

So now I'm really questioning my decision of paying $450 for the CSR for basically an extra 25% on travel. I know there's the $300 travel credit, so it's really $150, but $150 vs. $0?? I'm not sure how to do the math, though, when I don't know exactly how much spend I'll put on the card beyond the minimum. My dh does have a Freedom, which I'm trying to max out this quarter, but we don't usually max it out. I hate this fear of making the wrong decision and losing out!! Help!:faint:

Just heard back from the blogger at SaverCity I’ve been updating with my issue. He says Chase can book through Funjet or Disney so MAKE SURE YOU CONFIRM THE CHASE UR AGENT IS BOOKING STRAIGHT THROUGH DISNEY BEFORE YOU PURCHASE.
This is really helpful to know. I'm sorry that you had to find out this way, though!

Are we talking about ONLY tickets in this case, or were you booking a whole package? Tried to read back- sorry, might've missed something. I know we've had a couple people book packages before and don't remember this being an issue in the past.

Don't cancel the Sapphire, call Chase and ask to "product change" the Sapphire to a no-fee Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. After that, I'd give it at least a week before applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (I'm guessing). If you can handle a combined $8k minimum spend in the next 3 months, I'd seriously consider applying for the CSP and the CSR on the same day (double dip) to get both bonuses. This is the only way to get around the "one Sapphire rule" to get the bonuses on both cards without waiting another 2 years.

We product changed from CSR to Freedom 5-6 months ago. He will not be eligible for the CSR bonus again until Jan 2019. I guess we could product change to the other Freedom card. Did not realize you could sign up again that fast.

I've been looking at how I'm going to reach my MS on the CIP that I hope to get next. I saw on the GOC website that each card has a $200 limit. Can you purchase and apply more than one at a time? In my case they will go on a student loan.

If you're trying to meet MSR on a CIP by paying student loans, I'd really suggest using Plastiq instead.

As you noticed, GoC gift cards max out at $200 but has an activation fee of $5.95 per card. As far I'm aware, you can apply as many GoC cards to your account as you want, but you'll be paying a 2.975% fee on each card. Toys R Us/Babies R Us used to sell GoC gift cards loadable up to $500 for a $5.95 activation fee (1.19%), but that's gone. Some regional grocery stores still carry variable load GoC cards up to $500 (I'm thinking HEB), but those may not be available to you. There have been rumors for almost 2 years now that GoC cards will be available at Best Buy.

Plastiq has a 2.5% credit card fee, so already cheaper than $200 GoC cards. But on the CIP, Plastiq earns 3x UR for every type of payment -- including student loans -- and the fee. (There's no restriction to paying student loans with Visa cards on Plastiq, but student loan payments are generally not allowed with Amex.) So for example, if your student loan payment is $500/month, you'd pay a 2.5% fee or $12.50; but as long as Plastiq earns 3x UR on CIP, you're earning 3x UR on $512.50 or 1537.5 UR, which is worth $15.37 if you cash out with a statement credit or bank deposit or worth 1.25x more ($19.22) towards travel if you transfer and redeem the UR points to CSP/CIP, or 1.5x more ($23.06) on the CSR. So with Plastiq, you're paying a 2.5% fee, but you're coming out ahead of that fee if you're paying with the CIP.

If you decide to use Plastiq, please consider signing up through a DISchurners link. You'll support a fellow member, but you'll also get $500 fee free dollars ("FFDs") after you make your first $500 in payments. That means the next time you use Plastiq, they'll waive the fees on your next $500 worth of payments (saving you $12.50).

Can you apply for both on the same day?

Not sure we can meet the MSR and I don't really want to use two 5/24 spots.:guilty:

Ahhh, I’m saving the CSP/CSR for my last slot. I’ll be st 4/24 and I’ll try the double dip then. I’m meeting the MSR with bank funding. I’m personally applying for the CSP first because I think with the AU bonus and no annual fee it is better. So if I could only get one I’d want the CSP but for some people the CSR makes more sense.

Has the double dip failed for anyone who actually got approved for both cards the same day? Meaning, they didn't get both bonuses? Also, is it possible to complete the double dip without having to call recon?

We product changed from CSR to Freedom 5-6 months ago. He will not be eligible for the CSR bonus again until Jan 2019. I guess we could product change to the other Freedom card. Did not realize you could sign up again that fast.

Ah, if your husband is not eligible for a CSR bonus right now, he won't be eligible for a CSP bonus either. Last August, Chase implemented what we call the "one Sapphire rule":
  • You can’t hold more than one Sapphire card. So if DH currently has an open Sapphire card, his application for another Sapphire card will be denied. (DH would have to product change or cancel any open Sapphire cards before applying.)
  • You have to wait 24 months from getting the bonus on either card before getting it again on another card. So if DH received a bonus on either the CSP or the CSR in the past 24 months, he'll have to wait 24 months after the last Sapphire bonus posted to apply again. If DH got a CSR bonus in January 2017, he'll have to wait until January 2019 or after to get a bonus on the CSP and/or the CSR.

Currently, Chase doesn’t approve people for cards if they aren’t eligible for the bonus. You can get auto approved for both. If auto approval is your goal maybe lower your chase credit limits before applying if you are close to 50%.

I am amazed at all the info on this page. I have been looking for a credit card that offers the best cash back. In the past 5 years i have opened only three credit cards.
-Disney Premier -Opened in early 2017 Received $200 bonus +S100 referral-Annual fee
-Alaska Visa signature- Opened in Early 2017- received 30K points + free ticket- Annual fee
-Hilton Amex-Opened in March 2018- Received 50K points plus 15K for referring husband- No Annual fee

DH Credit cards
Regular Disney CC -Opened early 2017-Received $200 bonus-No Fee
Hilton Amex Opened in March 2018- Received 65K points

DH only has those two credit cards in his name.

I have opened them because we go to Disney at least once a year. Alaska is our preferred airline and Hilton is one of our preferred hotels.

I do not mind opening cards to get bonuses I can use, but what i am really searching for is for a card that will give me the best cash back that I can use to put towards vacations. Any recommendations?

I only have two Chase cards right now and the limits only add up to about 15% of our income, so I think we're safe there (I lowered the IHG to 5k a while ago).

Here's another thought...Does the double dip increase your risk of shutdown? If I don't apply for any other Chase cards for a long time after would I probably be safe?

@WVMomof3 just heard back from the Chase travel agent I booked with originally. Said they called Funjet and were told Disney confirmations usually process within a week or two. The Chase rep said the longest she’s seen it take is a week and that she’d keep an eye on it for me. She gave me the opportunity to cancel and get my points back and “book direct with Disney without using points” so not all the Cruise dept agents know how to book direct with Disney using points. I said a week or so is fine with me so I’ll keep the reservation.

(She also said this is Funjet’s processing time so changing the date of my trip would not change anything.)

With only two Chase cards you should be fine. I’m personally at 5 Chase cards in the past 13 months, and I’m going to go the CIC soon and then the CSP/CSR double dip. SO has four Chase cards in the past 13 months.

I agree with @speedyfishy. If you can do both, 50,000+50,000 UR is definitely worth two 5/24 slots. The extra 30,000 UR on the CSP is just gravy if you can manage it. I understand that you're concerned about meeting a combined $8k MSR in 3 months, but it's a lot easier to MS (manufacture spend) on Chase cards than, say, on Amex. This includes buying Visa Gift Cards to shift spend or liquidate through money orders, or funding bank accounts with your cards. We have a thread about this on DISchurners, and I know @speedyfishy, @gottalovepluto, @Albort, and others are a lot of help in this area.

Has the double dip failed for anyone who actually got approved for both cards the same day? Meaning, they didn't get both bonuses? Also, is it possible to complete the double dip without having to call recon?

I saw a dp just the other day that says the CSP+CSR double dip still works, they got both bonuses. It's possible you could get auto-approved for both, but you may have to recon. We'll be here for you if you need help!

Here's a step-by-step:

Start applying early during regular business hours of a non-holiday weekday in case you need to call Chase reconsideration or verification departments.

For personal cards, be sure you're not running afoul of the 2/30 rule: you can only have two applications every 30 days or you'll likely be rejected.

Apply for the card you want first. If you aren't auto-approved and perhaps got the we'll let you know in 30 days message, call the automated status line at 1-800-432-3117 to check the status of your application. If you still aren't approved after an hour or so, call recon at 1-888-270-2127 to get it approved.

After that first card is approved, use a different internet browser or an incognito window for the second application, otherwise Chase may combine the apps thinking they're accidental duplicates. If it isn't auto-approved, call the automated status line after an hour, and if you still aren't approved call recon to get it approved.

If DH has a CSR, generate a referral link for you to apply through: https://www.chase.com/referafriend/chasesapphirereserve. That's a bonus 10,000 UR to Player 2 if you're approved. Otherwise, please consider applying through a DISchurners link.

I believe for the CSP 80,000 UR offer, you may have to go incognito to pull up the offer and get the lower $20k MSR link?

@mom2elal - Edited out the copy and paste.
