I love credit cards so much!

Mine just updated for SO and I. We got 10,000 points after first purchase and the annual fee waived for the first year. I’ll try calling and see if I can get a better offer.
Are you in your first year of having the card (i.e. have you paid the $85 fee at all yet?)

I’ve been busy but not quite that busy! Missing you around here. I try to skim through the posts a few times a day even if I don’t have time to post and reply. Today was the first time in a while that I had some time to post some substantive responses. Feels good being able to contribute.

Big news today is the new Marriott Premier Plus personal card is live with a 100k Marriott points $5k MSR/3 months $95 AF offer, subject to 5/24 and a one-Marriott personal card rule. Upgrade offers for existing Marriott Premier cardholders. Oh, and GC>GC is dead (or will soon be dead) at Best Buy.

Missed all that so thank you for sharing! Yes, I just miss feeling I am contributing and you guys in general! Gotta check out the new Marriott offer!

Let me know how it goes. I don't plan to do it for just 10k.

Will do. I think I may even do it for 10k.

We got the card in December. Haven’t paid $85 yet.

I wonder if it has something to do with how long the card has been open. Mine has been open 2 years. @calypso726 how about you?

I hope it’s this and Chase just doesn’t really hate me. I always get the worst offers lol

What happens if I booked using the anniversary night but haven't stayed yet and cancel before 30 days from AF posting?
Anniversary night won't be taken from you once its in your Marriott account. I've cancelled Marriott cards twice (one as recent as August) and kept the cert :)

The other big question is what happens to that cert on August...maybe it converts to a Cat 1-4...

Ok wow over 175 messages since this afternoon.

I’m bummed about the Best Buy gc I used that every month to get some Disney cards.

Very good point on calling....just need to figure out which cards to reduce...my thought is to reduce the two cards I’ll be closing at the end of the year when the bonus SW points hit.

As far as cards for my husband...since he’s never had his own SW card I want to wait and see what this new personal card is all about and yes assuming I’m approved for the CIP I’d like to refer him once the spend is complete on my card.
So my thinking is call and reduce CL...wait a week then apply for my CIP.....if approved it will probably take 2-3 months to hit the min spend.....then refer my husband for the CIP or is there a different personal card I should consider for him ?
If you haven’t checked out plastiq it’s great and with the CIP you get 3x ur so it pays for it self. Check out the dischurners to help show some support under the misc. thanks to plastiq I met the spend in less than 30 days.

So a bit :offtopic: but I’m stressing out because my rental property needs a new roof. Best estimate I have is $3600. Long story, but the property is rented for the amount I pay in taxes and insurance, I don’t make a profit at all, so a new roof is a losing proposition. I’d did think about the option of buying the shingles myself, but the property is 25 miles from me and I can only get there on weekends, plus physically getting the shingles there is a pain. So to the point, if I got a new card would the 3% the contractor will charge for a cc worth it if I’m meeting MSR?
If your contractor can’t pick them up check to see what Lowes would charge to deliver. Might be some savings there.

I was looking at the Plastiq chart on FrequentMiler site to determine who I can and can not pay using the CIP. Most of them say ‘with prep’. :confused3. Utilities, misc bills, contractors (we have rental properties so I could definitely use that). Also, mgt. with Wells Fargo- saw that info on DISchurner-is that still ok-anyone tried recently?

Trying to maximze rewards as best as I can..
So far it’s still working. Hoping it keeps working.

Will do. I think I may even do it for 10k.

They probably can't legally charge the AF since you're in Year 1. But they still want you to upgrade so they do 10k + waived fee and get away with it :) Don't feel that bad...I'd probably rather have 10k with waived fee than 20k and pay $95, LOL!

I already plan to use the cert at the end of this month. I am thinking maybe I should just cancel and recoup my $85 since I got the SPG Biz last month. And then in 12 months I can think about the Premier Plus.

And it says the cert. is good for up to 25k points, not 35k like Premier Plus.

Okay credit card gurus (specifically those experts in AmEx retention offers) -- what are your thoughts about the best time to call? Do I want a weekday 9 -5 person, a weeknight person, a weekend person . . . I'll be calling about the SPG Biz, which (since meeting the MS a year ago) I have used only occasionally to take advantage of a few AmEx offers.

Why not all 3?? Just HUCA until they say yes, LOL!! :rotfl2:

@calypso726...you are going to be proud of me...

For I think the second time ever, I am going to pay a 2nd year annual fee on a card. I will pay Marriott my $85 (due in 3 days) + $10 for this upgrade offer :)

I paid a 2nd yr fee once on my SW Premier when they offered me 6,000 more points (on top of the 6k anniv) for not cancelling.

I am 4/12 with Chase cards plus a CIP so I’m not getting any new cards for awhile but I really want a Marriott card!

I have a question I know is floating around here. I know you can purchase Disney tickets some how with Chase points. If I have the CsR and use points does it work like booking travel with the 50% extra redeemtion value?
If so how do I go about ordering?

Thanks!

Mine has been open 7 years, 10 months. It sits in a drawer. I imagine if I put spend on it, the upgrade offer would have been higher. I'm good with with 20k though. I would have upgraded anyhow for the higher point value anniversary night cert. Plus, getting a new Marriott card and bonus points from Chase is a novelty I'm enjoying at LOL/24.

I called around noon or so and spent 52 minutes playing SPG new rules pro/con verbal ping pong. But, I did get a 10k SPG points with no spend retention offer. So there's one DP for you if it helps.

Ah, well that explains what I saw on my last flight (photo below). I've been wondering if seeing a pig actually fly was some portent of impending doom or if I'd be hitting the the lotto. @SouthFayetteFan paying an 2nd AF never crossed my mind :lmao: Thank you for clearing that up.

I made one last effort to get a match to 100,000 on my CIP. After 5 SMs and getting nowhere, I decided to call in. The person was very insistent that it was a targeted offer and that I wasn't eligible. But they did eventually say that they would send my account for review by the marketing department. She said it would take 3-5 days. Fingers crossed they approve it.

Ok, I can't figure out multiple quotes, but see my desperate cry for help around 8:00 last night and @gottalovepluto reply around 9:30! Hoping she can figure it out again!

What is drawing you to MRs? How do you plan to use them? Have you considered the Business Blue+ Card (won’t affect 5/24 status).
well...I have a LOT of chase cards so that's out for me for 2 years (at least) my DH has a lot too, but he'll be 3/24 in a few months, so I'm saving any slots for chase for him. I have played with SPG for a long time,(some hilton amex, etc) and just never gotten as far as MR,and now that I'm considering them,it seems like the logical step for me.(I got interested due to my JB card, and what programs transfer well for that) I like the idea of another biz card for my 'business' what are the DP on how easy/hard it is to get this one? I guess I prefer a good usable program to cashback if I can find it. I'm not a big 'churner'...I enjoy racking up new points obviously, but most of my time is spent maximizing the cards I've got and using them well. I was tossing the idea of the BoA premium and the amex everyday...I could likely get both if I can get a good offer on the 2nd one.
