I wouldn’t say Amex MR is “hard” as much as Chase has made its UR program so “easy” to understand, earn, and redeem.

But also, when it comes to redeeming points, TPG, FlyerTalk, Reddit are all about maximizing value which I think puts extra scrutiny over every little detail and advantage to squeeze out that extra 0.x cpp.
The transferring to one airline to book another is hard for me to wrap my head around. If I want AA, I just book with AA miles. Using Avios to book Alaska to Hawaii makes my head hurt a little. Lol.

reason to book another Airlines partner is to take advantage of the airlines award chart.
ie, Korean airline interline NA-->NA is 25k on partners, 30k on other partners... while other airlines like Alaska has their own charts within.
another example is using BA to fly US domestic because its 7k? to fly a leg instead of like 12.5k.

Some airlines are based on price ie SW and AF.
Some airlines are distance based ie UA
Some airlines are sector to sector based ie KE, BA.

My aunt applied for the CIP last June. Unfortunately, she got overly excited and didn't check with me beforehand. She got a denial because she had opened her CSP less than 30 days before.

Now, she applied for the CIP again but for my uncle. She got the 30-day message we all know so well but tonight, the status line changed to 7-10 days. She's so discouraged and I doubt will ever apply for the CIP again. She's late 60's. They take these denials personally :( I'm guessing the problem may be credit already extended but won't know until she gets the letter.

They actually have legit businesses...she sells on ebay a lot (embroideries diaper bags and burp cloths) and she is also a TA, booking Disney mainly...I told her to get the credit lines down. Not sure what else to do. Weird how some get approved for this card so easily and others cannot.

Thanks just read that. Seems hard. Lol.

I think MR's are so much harder to use than UR's. And the Schwab is very tempting. I'd like to use them for travel though so I'm in a holding pattern right now. If nothing works, I'll cash out, but I'm hanging in there trying to make them work for travel. At least the Schwab account is an option, and a good one!

I've been gone 8 hours and you added 10 pages you animals !:chat:

Seriously, this thread is killing me lately. I'm about to jump ship and just give up! I have two kids in a big dance performance this weekend, a graduating senior (big party, constant groups celebrating, including our church tonight), dh looking for jobs in other cities and dealing with *that* stress...Can you guys just stop all convo until I can join back in??? I don't like being left out!

Did she apply using only First and Last Names for business name? Or did she use a DBA? Likely denial could also be for verification.

Should I start doing a daily summary comment? LOL!

There’s a site that suggests you can see if you have an upgrade offer available. However it doesn’t work (or at least told me no offer available).

https://www.chase.com/chasegreatrewards/catchall

DoC had previously suggested it would be 20-25k points - not sure what that’s based on.

Thanks for posting the link! DH and I each got the upgrade offer. It was 20,000 points to upgrade to the new card which you get after making one purchase. There is no minimum spend requirement for said purchase.

I’ve been busy but not quite that busy! Missing you around here. I try to skim through the posts a few times a day even if I don’t have time to post and reply. Today was the first time in a while that I had some time to post some substantive responses. Feels good being able to contribute.

Big news today is the new Marriott Premier Plus personal card is live with a 100k Marriott points $5k MSR/3 months $95 AF offer, subject to 5/24 and a one-Marriott personal card rule. Upgrade offers for existing Marriott Premier cardholders. Oh, and GC>GC is dead (or will soon be dead) at Best Buy.

I just saw on reddit that upgrading will bump the AF to $95, but if you’re in your first year of holding the card you’ll get a $95 statement credit to offset the AF.

Mine just updated for SO and I. We got 10,000 points after first purchase and the annual fee waived for the first year. I’ll try calling and see if I can get a better offer.
