I love credit cards so much!

I just recently starting using Plastiq with DH's CIP and have had no problem whatsoever, and no "prep" needed. So far, I have paid our county assessor for my car registration renewal, Idaho Power and our country club.

Thanks! This is good to know.

I have a regular Delta skymiles card (8 years). I received a letter today saying it is being discontinued and will be automatically upgraded to the Gold and the fee will be waived till June 2019. My initial thought was to cancel now and position myself to apply for other Amex once the Chase well runs dry for me then I realized the card has a little age to it so maybe I should just keep it until AF in 2019 and hopefully get a decent retention offer. I do have another Amex 11 yrs and and a couple others non Amex that are between 15-20 years.

Is canceling now a bad idea. Any thoughts?
Will they let you PC to the Blue Delta Skymiles Card? That one has no annual fee I think :)

Marriott Premier Plus link is now LIVE

It looks metal.

ETA: Yep, there’s a one-Marriott consumer card rule:
  • The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months

That is what I have I was hoping that wasn’t the one being discontinued
That’s a new card that was introduced in late 2017 from what I recall. I assume you guys were referring to some older delta card (maybe called Delta Options or Blue Air)??

Any idea of an upgrade offer yet?

Wow! Idk if I would have trusted my friend to pay me back for the trip. my friends seem to be pretty irresponsible with their cards. The ones that live at home and have their parents pay for everything seem to be the ones with the maxed cards.

My parents are pretty financially savvy. I don’t remember them ever teaching me about finances though. My dad is proud of his 800+ credit score and when he found i how many cards I have been applying to he freaked. I showed him my score increase over time, but he doesn’t want to hear about it. He also thinks my financial independence retire early goals are ridiculous lol
Yeah. Now that I think about it, with the flights I think her card limit wasn't high enough, and that was before I heard about the money stuff. The room was kind of no choice, becasye we were standing art check in and I wanted a bed! But she immediately transferred the money to my bank account from here because we had the same bank at the time. But now, I'd probably ask for cash up front before doing that anymore...

With what I know now, I don't want to know what my parents' finances looked like... a couple years ago, after I figured out my dad was not a good source, I saw a credit score from him, transunion I think. The score was 660s or 680s... and there I was, 25, $50k in student loans, 2 $2k limit credit cards, and I had recently had my score pulled for buying a car and it was 720, 740, something like that.

I just looked today, and I finally broke 800 on credit karma! 808!

So who was it that said they could get just Disney tickets through the chase travel center using UR points with the CSR? We are not having any luck. They are saying you must book a package and not just tickets. Does anyone remember if there was something special that needed done?? Help!

editing to add that we did go through the cruise and tour department.

Wait a minute. It looks the same but mine comes with an annual fee of $55. I am going to call again and check that out.

I don't think you have the same Blue card being referenced in this thread - that's a new offering. I think you have the "standard" delta card. There's one that is Skymiles options and it doesn't have a fee. Those are pretty old.

You don't go through Cruise and Tour, look for Activities in Orlando just as you would hotel or airfare, etc. I can't remember the exact steps, I'll go check in a few minutes.

ETA: I'm not seeing them now, but I have in the past. I just put in my trip dates and there are so many things you can book in Orlando with UR. This is my plan B for Universal tickets which are showing up.

I would recommend the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP). You would apply for this card as a sole proprietorship (Use your first name and last name as the business name and your SSN as the EIN). Here's how that bonus works:

Chase Ink Preferred (CIP)
  • Best Online Offer = 80,000 Ultimate Rewards (URs) for $5k spend in 90 days (there is an in branch offer for 100k - it requires some additional work to apply in branch to with a BRM). The 80k offer is available on DISchurners if you aren't planning to go in branch.
  • Annual fee = $95 (not waived)
  • Points are worth = 1.25 cents each through the travel portal OR transfer 1:1 to numerous partners
  • Assuming you'd use the 1.25 travel option here's what you get:
  • 80,000 bonus URs + 5,000 base URs (from min spend) = 85,000 URs worth $1,062.50 LESS $95 annual fee = $967.50
  • Also of note - you could hold these points, get a CSR after and then you can redeem these points at 1.50 via the CSR making it worth $1,180
This card as well as its friends the CSR (Chase Sapphire Reserve) and CSP (Chase Sapphire Preferred) earn Ultimate Rewards (URs) which are super awesome (flexible) points that can be used to pay for hotels, flights, transfer to Southwest, pay for On-Site Disney stays and packages, etc.
Looks really good. Thank you. Going to wait until Thanksgiving to open since I know I will spend the 5K in 90 days between bills and christmas shopping. Now I wouldn't reach that. Thank you.

Something worth noting, there are many ways to hit a higher Minimum Spend that don't require spending money you wouldn't have anyways:
  • Prepay Utilities - I have paid my electric, gas, and water for the year alread
  • Prepay Cable and Cell Phone
  • Pay Property Taxes on a CC
  • Pay auto insurance 6 months at a time instead of monthly
  • Purchase Gift Cards to stores you shop at frequently (i.e. Grocery Store, Walmart, & Gas Station) and just use the GCs after the 3 months is up
  • Book a refundable item (i.e. refundable plane ticket) then cancel it after you've met the full spend amount
  • If planning a Disney Trip, buy Disney Gift cards ahead of time and save them for the trip
  • Open a bank account that allows you to fund a deposit with a Credit Card
Of course you don't have to do this and you can wait. I also figured this would be a helpful list for other folks thinking the same thing...

This doesn't even get into more complex things like paying your mortgage through Plastiq or sending money to a spouse or trusted friend via Venmo and just eating a small fee to earn the points...(and numerous other ideas).

So I found the original message on the Dischurners board From blueskyandgoodwine:

TICKETS ONLY through the Cruise and Tour Department - can purchase select WDW tickets using UR points this way. Call Chase travel and request the Cruise and Tour Dept, the normal travel dept cannot book these and will tell you WDW tickets can't be booked through Chase- so don't waste your time with them, just ask to be transferred right off the bat. Prices are what you'd pay booking online with Disney. One quirk, I was looking for 8 day tickets and the rep said he could get me 7 day or 10 day (and most of the days leading up to 7 sorry I wasn't really listening to that part) so not every ticket is available. The quote I received today was 34,800 UR using my 1.5x CSR redemption for a 7 day PH, the cash cost was quoted at $522.

The lady at the cruise and tours department said that we must book a package. She put us on hold and asked a supervisor and they too said ticket only could not be done. She transferred us to the flight/hotel/activities center and they too could not help us. They did say they occasionally get Disney tickets on the activities page but it is not very frequent and we must just continually check the website.

I am very bummed. Was really hoping for a almost zero cost Disney trip.
