I love credit cards so much!

Wanted to get a Disney gc at best buy to use my swagbucks qr code and get a little more towards my amex spend. I know bb doesn't send level 3 but I didn't want an even amount or a candy bar so since they only had 25 or variable load I had him put 51.85 on it. I told him this will sound weird but I don't want an even amount, I'm meeting spend on my card and I don't need a candy bar. The things we do...

Having paid a bunch of tuition bills, the only school that didn't charge fees that outweighed the benefits of using a credit card was in the UK.

I have two in college - one school charges a fee - I don't use CC for that one.
The other does not - this bill is paid with a cc. There are a handful of schools that don't charge fees.

I would say that you're thinking of canceling your card because the annual fee is due (or coming up) and you don't know that you want to keep the card. Be prepared for some "rah!rah! the card is great!" and express scepticism about it ("hmm, I'm not sure"), and ask if there are any retention offers on your account.

I just called and activated the retention offer on the SPG personal. Buying points should count right? They count in making a minimum spend for people? He did read a list of disclosures to me to activate the offer. It included gift cards. Which kind of killed my plan of getting Disney gift cards for the upcoming trip from BJ's.

I paid it all off minus the AF the night before. No idea if that had an impact. I figured it would show that I was serious about cancelling. I then said I want to cancel it unless they could give me any motivation to keep it. They then gave their script of it being a great card and then reviewed my account and said "oh look here is an offer for you."

Thanks for the tips. I just called AmEx and unfortunately the only offer on my Delta Gold card is to upgrade to Platinum, which is not happening. I think I will just downgrade to the no-fee Delta card, to keep the account history and potential offers. I have two other AmEx credit cards (Hilton and SPG) that I will most likely be canceling this summer, once they're past the one-year mark, to make room for a new card or two.

question is, who would want them? lol

Not with the current "up to" $200 statement credit offer!

DoC seems to think that the SPG Personal will see a SPG/Marriott points signup bonus return at some point. DoC, PointsYak and several other comments seem to think Amex and Chase will swap portfolios, with SPG Personal converting to Chase and Marriott Biz converting to Amex.

Well I see the Chase Freedom Unlimited has targeted some for 3x points the first year for new users.

Of course i just downgraded my CSP to this not even 3 months ago.:guilty:

Great deal on the CFU if you aren’t working on other MSR’s!
I’m giving this one a miss too. This is good marketing and a good offer for the non-churner. :) But I’ll take the 15,000 UR standard offer all day over this as a churner. ;)

i doubt the points will come back. Theres gotta be a reason why they dropped both SPG biz and SPG personal to statement credit literally 4 days later. The portfolio swap seems likely, but my guess would be personal cards, amex will try to get ppl to upgrade to their Luxury card.

That is why I said for someone not meeting MSR's...I sent a link to the offer to my aunt...I think it's an excellent deal for her. She is not a churner but can spend 4-5k a month on CC's. She has a CSR so essentially earning 4.5x on every purchase is a great offer for her. Not for most of us here since we are not without a MSR, like, ever lol!

Idk because there’s no bonus that goes with that besides $25 for the AU. Gotta spend a lot more on the card now to get as much out of it as you used to from the old bonus.
ETA: @JC0712 had it covered already ;)

You'd need to spend 10k to equal the bonus, right? I think there is definitely a market for this offer, it's just not a good offer for churners. Like I mentioned in other post, my aunt could make great use of this card, since she can spend the 10k in about 3 mos. She's not a churner...more of a one card with everything on it kind of person...so I think this is good for someone like her.

Yeah, it fits Amex’s m.o. to offer an upgrade bonus to move customers from the Personal > Luxury.

My daughters school charges no fees to pay tuition with a credit card. They don’t take AMEX but no fees for the cards they do take.

I just paid DD's summer tuition at the local community college for no fee. Her university charges 2.75%, so I will send it through plastiq/CIP for a small profit, or use it towards a MSR.

Yeah my friend just signed up for it. She is not a churner and refuses to pay ANY annual fee for a credit card.
She said it is the "principle" of the thing. So this was up her alley.
