I love credit cards so much!

Between the Southwest engine explosion today and that 60 mins Allegiant report I'm feeling the power of the Staycation calling... I know, I know! Flying is still astronomically safer than even driving to the grocery store, but still guys. Partially sucked out a window sounds horrifying (but kudos to the pilots who got that plane back down!).
TPG link has a tweeted out photo of the engine https://thepointsguy.com/news/break...ght-forces-emergency-landing-in-philadelphia/ crazy!

It's funny that because it's SW everyone is like 'Props to staff getting everyone out safely' but if it were United, everyone (including me) would be all "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! Fire Munoz!"

it does not. i was also under the impression that it does and i missed my $300 bonus.
Insert [badword!] here! Thanks for the info, we panic did 5 debit transactions today as we're over the 60 day mark by a week and were fervently hoping there's a secret extension on the days to qualify for the bonus, like with credit cards, but I suspect you tried that as well and had no luck?

@Albort ohmygosh I found your dp post from last month warning us about this. Facepalm! Did you just close the account down and reset the clock? I'm going to call the banker tomorrow to plead our case, he's out today apparently. But it looks like we're going to be in the close it down and reset the clock camp. (Kicker for me is I remember asking that banker if our bank to bank transfers would count as ACHs and he said yes :furious: )

Does anyone have the number from the back of the CSP card? I need to call them and I have all of my account information, but I don't have the number to call from the back of the card.

Thanks!

FWIW, AmEx actually has a car buying program similar to Costco and AAA's. I used it for the car I bought this past weekend. Theoretically, the ones that participate also will accept AmEx (I've read one DP where the dealership didn't). I didn't end up using any of the dealerships they connected me with but I WAS able to use the offers I got from those dealerships to negotiate a better deal with a dealership we've worked with in the past and liked. Happy to discuss further.
I would love to hear more. My car buying experience is just one vehicle... I was hoping we weren't going to be at this point until Fall or so.

Nice! I love London, I first visited when I was 13, then spent a month in Camberley on an exchange program in high school. DW & I went in 2006, but I haven't been back since. I've been researching for a potential family trip next summer which is why I thought of it. I've never used AirBnB but will have to look into it, as it's hard to find standard hotel rooms that sleep 4.
@Ava I meant to share this with you when we were talking about Airbnb in London. Did you know you can rent apartments in the St. Pancras Clock Tower??? There's your space for 4!

AmEx has a website: https://amexnetwork.truecar.com/main.html

Any dealer that shows up in the main search field is required to let you put at least $2000 on your AmEx card. My dealer allowed $3000, and some dealers may go higher.

In addition, the link on the lower right of the page will show you those few dealers who will allow you to put the entire cost of the vehicle on your AmEx.

So buying a 50k+ card on your AmEx is NOT dead! Where's the "in awe" emoji :) (full price just not offered in my state looks like)

Although I laugh because the place I bought my car 10 years ago is now on the list. At the time they only allowed something like 1k and that was mainly for taxes, tags, etc etc. Changed their tune now I see

Plastiq has apparently reached out to DoC with an offer. New payers only: a 2% processing fee on mortgages and rent for the first 6 payments. You're also supposed to get the normal $500 FFDs. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/new-...-with-any-credit-card-for-a-2-processing-fee/
**We don't post blogger offers here because most of them are only promoting offers that give them the best kick-backs but DoC always mentions if they receive a kick-back of any kind from an offer and they make no mention here of getting one.**

Two thoughts:

Even if DoC is getting a kickback (and you’re right that DoC is usually very forthright about any compensation he might receive), a 2% fee is better than the 2.5% fee the public typically pays anyway, so this is a good deal.

To get the discount on mortgages, can you then only pay with MC and Discover? Because getting creative with recipient names, addresses and categories so that we can use Visa and Amex for mortgages is kind of intended to get around the mortgage category restriction, no?

ETA: Whoa: “You can use any credit card with this promo (Visa, MC, Amex, Discover)”. Is this a trap?

Chuck says, “mortgage payments WILL work with this, we’ve clarified that with Plastiq and updated the post to reflect this.” If this is true, I would use the actual mortgage payment address, no creative addressing or it might end up on Plastiq’s mortgage blacklist.

I guess DoC clarified the part about mortgage payments using Visa and Amex:

You can use any credit card with this Plastiq promo (Visa, MC, Amex, Discover) – however, note that each card issue has rules about which payments they allow, for example, Amex and Visa do not allow mortgage payments, and Amex does not allow business rental lease payments, see this post for more details on what the card issuers allow. Bottom line: you can use anything for residential rent; Visa/MC/Discover for business lease; MC/Discover for mortgage.

ETA: If you're a new Plastiq user eligible for this promotional rate, I reiterate tread lightly if you're going to try sneak a mortgage payment through. It looks like to qualify for the 2% fee, you have to categorize your payment as Rent/Real Estate, and if you're being creative with your Recipient, it could receive additional scrutiny under that category and this promotion. You don't want to trade your long term ability to pay your mortgage around the restrictions for a short term, 6 months discount on fees.

When I told my wife that Marriott killed Sheraton club lounge access (which she loved on our recent Disneyland trip) on her new SPG Biz card, she asked, “Why are we keeping this card then?”

Oh we won’t after the year is up.

i dont see a reason for my SPG personal now... asides Amex offers... but the 4x for the SPG biz seems kinda interesting though. i may replace my gas card(citi typ) with it depending how these new points are valued.

DH and I both have SPG personal and business - so 4 cards between us = 4 annual free nights. At first I got excited, and then I remembered the excessive amount of time I spent looking for cat 1-5 Marriotts so we could use our annual free nights. So, I think we will just have to see which hotels get plopped into which categories and where we'll be able to use the free nights.

In the past, I've kept the SPG cards open simply due to the earnings on Amex offers. But lately, the offers have been rather lame. Other than the Lowe's offer, I really haven't used many this year.

My head is swimming right now . . .

This is my dilemma now since DH and I both have the SPG Biz. Do I blow a */24 slot on the personal for the 25K and potential free night that we could potentially stack with the free nights from the SPG Biz and Marriott Biz that we each have already (that's practically 5 nights :scratchin if we can find a redemption on the new award chart)? I'm also debating getting the Plat 100K offer if I can still pull it from CardMatch, but I can only choose between the 100K Plat or SPG personal. Might roll the dice and see which I can pull first. If I pull both, we have a problem...whatever I choose would make me 3/24 until 5/19. I need to reserve a slot for CP and/or any potential new Starriot Cards...

I am going to be deeply saddened by this if it's true!

Every time I try a new MS technique it dies... first BMO bank funding and now no MOs or Bill Pay at Walmart. Hopefully I can go today to try and unload my last $500.

UGH. @speedyfishy I hear you on this. Feels like everytime I start something, it gets shut down or nerfed. Fortunately, we can still use the method I posted on DISChurners using USB MCGCs :confused3 Might try WM again later this week to see if it's come East yet.

it does not. i was also under the impression that it does and i missed my $300 bonus.

@gottalovepluto Apparently a push from M&T Bank still works according to DOC DPs...I just tried it myself, so will report back if I see it for future reference. I still have 30 days to keep playing around with it.

ETA: Didn't realize it was the Chase Biz Bonus being mentioned. I was referring to the personal checking. Thanks for correcting @gottalovepluto !

Oh, I was talking about the Biz checking bonus, guessing you're talking about the personal? Hope it works!

The Allegiant story is quite an old story, im not sure why its being brought up now, but they have been slowly transitioning their fleet over to the Airbus A320 instead of the old MD88/90. I think it was like 2015, FAA did crack down on them, which is why they are a better airline now with less problems than before.

It's funny that because it's SW everyone is like 'Props to staff getting everyone out safely' but if it were United, everyone (including me) would be all "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! Fire Munoz!"

you missed your chance... LINK
For some reason, this seems to be a common occurring things... it makes me wonder where these maintenance are done. Some did mention that SW gets their planes maintained somewhere in El Salvador. I know a few of them fly their planes out to the middle east to be serviced there.
Air France had a problem with their A380.
The only difference between this Southwest one and others is that someone actually got hurt. :|

Im actually using my business account for business purposes. I guess im hoping that this bank account will help me get approved for a 2nd Biz card... after that, i might hop onto the Wells Fargo $300 Biz account.

Flying SWA tomorrow to MCO for the Dark Side and was not happy to read about that plane engine explosion! Yikes!

I'm still trying to catch up on the Stariott news, but I'm wondering about the same thing as @Calfan re the Platinum AMEX gold benefit. I hope they keep that as it sounds like the equivalent Gold benefit in the new merged plans will give me the breakfast I'll be missing in the lounge :( The loss of the lounge for SPG business and the 2x earning devaluation for the SPG card are the biggest disappointments. The 4x category spends aren't as enticing to me as I have chase cards that have 3x in the same categories. And here I thought I was finally going to have a good card for non-category spends. Sigh. I finished my SPG business spend in record time though--before the first bill has even been issued. I went ahead and paid our entire year of house insurance, our college football season tickets and that was basically it. Considering DH is over half-way through his SPG spend, and I also met my CIP spend all in the same 30 day period ... it's going to be an ugly month of credit card bills. Also trying to figure out whether to transfer existing Starpoints out before August 1st to Alaska or another airline.

Anyway, the reason for the post ... I have a few unrelated questions:

1. DD18 applied for her first card today via a referral from me for the Chase United Card. She received a flyer in the mail for $50k and $3000, but I thought it was better for me to take the 10,000 and her spend to be less. She is a student, but has investment income of $10k a year. She has been an AU on my United card for years. She received the 30 day notice, which wasn't surprising as her situation wasn't accurately reflected in the nice drop down menus. Should I bother having her call or just wait and see? I didn't even think about it but the AU card shouldn't cause a problem, right? I don't think I even had to give her SSN for that card.

2. I have an existing Starwood hotel reservation for June using my SPG business card. I should still get lounge access since the new program doesn't start until August, right?

3. I'm intrigued by the Plastiq offer for new customers re the Visa to pay the mortgage with the 2% fee. Has anyone figured out whether this will actually work? I'd love to use my CIP for that. Being able to stack with the referral is great, but I'm unclear on how to do that. I have to follow the link for new customers to get the 2% so would I put it in somewhere else?

I'd appreciate any thoughts/help!

Yikes that passenger died from the SW flight. What I read said she was in critical condition.

I'm reaching out for advice on the Chase Marriott business card. I am 7 or 8/24 with Chase (one is an AU), and my last personal card application was 10/2017. It was a chase card, not subject to 5/24. I have 9 hard credit inquiries since 2/2017 - 2 of these were for Chase credit cards, 3 were for a single mortgage ReFi, and 4 were for a single new car loan. I am trying to focus on business cards to get myself under 5/24.

I think I am low risk for a Chase account review and/or shutdown if I apply for the Marriott business, but I thought I'd seek advice here.
