I love credit cards so much!

Thanks for the info. What are you plans with your MR points?

I’ve transferred MR to Hawaiian Airlines during transfer bonuses to top off our account. But right now, we have more HawaiianMiles than we can use. I’m aiming for first-class flights, probably on ANA, to Japan in a few years.

I would most likely try use the airline credits to buy GC and the sell them. Southwest is not a carrier we would fly since it's about an hour+ drive to the airports they fly out of instead of the less than half hour drive to our home airport.

You can easily recoup 82-85% on the face value of the airline gift cards if you sell them on Raise or Cardpool. Since you can double dip this benefit, that’s $328-340 back.

I haven't looked into UberEats, but I am pretty sure they service our area. We don't get take-out too often, so this wouldn't be an offer I would utilize too much.

Like you, I don’t really use Uber. I’ve maybe used it three times ever, when I was in a pinch and when I was vacationing in another city without my car. So I struggle to use the Uber credits and end up using them on UberEATs. But the service itself eats up a good amount of the value because I think it tacks on something like $4.99 for a booking fee and then I end up tipping. So every month, I might get a $8 meal out of your $15 credits. I agree, it’s not a compelling benefit.

I am giving myself until tomorrow to decide if I want to pay this with a new cc or just do the most "comfortable" thing and pay cash and not worry about it. :scared1:

Good luck on the decision!

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it... I figured there was a chance I was overthinking that part.

Really helpful context. I'll probably be carrying on more often than not, so yeah, I think you're right that staying the course might make sense. I'm all for earning airline bonuses, so maybe I'll still tack on a Delta card after the CSP/CSR double dip and spends. Also forgot that URs xfer to Hyatt, thanks for the reminder!

I agree with @kmc8826 , getting the cards all depends on how you get reimbursed for travel. Can you use your own cards to pay or do you have to use a corporate card? If you can use your own cards, then use the new CSR/CSP for a while and then look into the Hyatt one. Same with Delta. I assume checked baggage would be reimbursed anyway for a business trip, so I'd hold out until an awesome sign up came out and you're ready so start using those miles that you earned for free :) They're the best miles ever, I miss those (but not the actual travel to get them ;)) and I miss being able to use my own cards to earn extra.

Few years back corporate made a hard line that everything had to be on a corporate card so I finally broke down and got one. Of course, they realized their folly of making people who take 1 trip a year (or ever!) get a card, so they changed the policy last year that if you travel less than 4 times a year a corporate card wasn't necessary. BUT if you had a card you had to use it and you automatically get renewed every year, and even though they switched from AmEx to Visa there was no opt out in the conversion and I can't figure out how to give back the card

I really wanted that offer but didn’t get it on any of our cards. Hopefully they will do it again sometime!

The only card I had it on was my Delta Blue personal. Luckily everyone in my house has a card on that account, so I have 4 logins for it :-)

@wendow, didn’t you just get back yesterday?! And you’re already signing up for a new card??? Really doubling down on SPG too!

Like I’m one to preach. I have $1k more in Amex MSRs than you do!

:cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2:

LOL! I got back Sunday night, and just got back on the thread yesterday. Came back to everyone and their brother applying for the spg cards. I decided to do as you did. Not really think much, just try for the incognito offer and go for it :)

Yeah... 25k/30k SPG has gotta be better than a $200 statement credit, right?

Really glad I'm catching up again and read @Mopedmom1 's post about putting $5k of a car down payment on SPG biz. We may be in the market in the next few weeks...
@amalone1013 The ability to use the card really varied between dealerships. I didn't find any that wouldn't take Amex, but the amount they would place on the card ranged from $1000 up to a max of $5k. This was one of the first questions I asked. If they only take $1000 don't even look at their inventory because you will most assuredly find the perfect car if you do! Maybe even call ahead to find out their policy so you dont waste time if putting spend on the card is a priority to you. Good luck!

Between the Southwest engine explosion today and that 60 mins Allegiant report I'm feeling the power of the Staycation calling... I know, I know! Flying is still astronomically safer than even driving to the grocery store, but still guys. Partially sucked out a window sounds horrifying (but kudos to the pilots who got that plane back down!).
TPG link has a tweeted out photo of the engine https://thepointsguy.com/news/break...ght-forces-emergency-landing-in-philadelphia/ crazy!

Aaaand we won't show this story to my wife.

Good luck with that one! Although apparently there is distorted video of someone who live streamed the crash landing and described everything, that is something you do not want anyone weary of flying watching. Might I suggest a night of reading or board games if watching the news is the norm?

Evidence that the obsession is real, lol. I kept lapsing into the same dream last night: that the Daily Getaways deal was the purchase of United miles at some ridiculously low cents per mile. At some point in the dream, I got to the point of trying to act on the offer, only to find I was too late, and it was sold out. I actually had to double check this morning that I somehow hadn't missed out on the best deal to buy United miles ever....

I think I should make DH call since it's his car/his fault :P He found one he wants to look at online last night... It'd be nice to figure it out today just in case, we've only got about $2k to go on SPG biz spend so maybe we could pick up something else...

Orrrrrr my husband.

He still talks about two years ago when we were waiting at our gate, and our plane was delayed, while we were waiting for it to be deboarded/turned over, we watched a guy crawl into the engine...

A little OT but since I know a lot of readers do bank bonuses also I'm hoping someone can help. I was trying to check when my Chase checking account closed to see if it's been 90 days, and when I called they said they couldn't find the close date, but the last statement date was 4/9/18. I actually closed the account in Jan, the check I received for closing it was dated 1/20. They said the only way to know for sure would be to go into a branch, but the closest branch is 3 hours away :worried: Anyone have experience if it was probably actually closed the date my money was sent out? I don't want to try to open a new account for a bonus if I'm not eligible. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

It has always concerned me that the short turnaround times on these aircraft just increases the possibility of incidents like this. Seems the time for performing checks between flights is minimal. However, it is reassuring to see that something as potentially catastrophic as an engine exploding still leaves the pilot with the ability to get the plane to an airport and landed safely.

I might have blown my Chase checking biz bonus, ugh! Can anyone confirm that bank to bank transfers count as ACH credits/debits for Chase bonus purposes?

I closed my account via SM last time and the same day they replied and told me "As you requested, we will: - Close your account within 72 hours." The check I received was dated one day after the SM.

FWIW, AmEx actually has a car buying program similar to Costco and AAA's. I used it for the car I bought this past weekend. Theoretically, the ones that participate also will accept AmEx (I've read one DP where the dealership didn't). I didn't end up using any of the dealerships they connected me with but I WAS able to use the offers I got from those dealerships to negotiate a better deal with a dealership we've worked with in the past and liked. Happy to discuss further.
