Someone on OMAAT just mentioned the air transfer program is being discontinued... :\

I'm not sure what that is...but I will give you one of these :( because we all feel your pain of programs getting worse lately.

I took it that the SPG airline transfers will be eliminated. I was kinda looking forward to that. But I didn't check out the reference yet. I'm hoping that rumor is wrong.

This is interesting. One of my daughters asked if we could go there one day. My husband said no too dangerous. I really
didn't think about it but now that you mentioned you enjoyed it I will look into it. Costa Rica sounds very exotic to me.
Where did you guys stay? Any tips?

Mom and I went to Costa Rica for a week In Jan 2017.
We stayed at the Breeze Private Residences Club in Guanacaste.
We felt completely safe while in Costa Rica. We did a couple private excursions. We chose private ones so we didn’t need to worry about Mom keeping up.

You're not alone @speedyfishy :) There is no explaining away credit card report errors to chase reps. Denied until you get your credit report fixed. Tried helping my parent recon out of a card that said something like "closed to transition" on their credit report (the Chase rep read that out loud!) and then the report showed a corresponding open date on the new card (that was not new, just jcp turned it into a mastercard) and the Chase reps were solid no's across the HUCAs. Said it had to be fixed on the credit report and then they could reconsider (jcp says they'll fix it in 30 days too). Chase is absolute sticklers on this considering they're the ones that screwed up on your report. I would have been livid on that phone call which would have gotten me nowhere, hope your issue is fixed sooner than 30 days :)

Found the thread in today’s DD. Sounds like bad luck with the Chase rep; needs to HUCA.

We went over this with @Dugette a few days ago and she was able to double dip after successfully reconning the later CSR application. The very next post above the subject thread is a DP of a successful CSP+CSR double dip.

I’m really surprised that after the length Marriott’s taken with merging SPG in, that they’d end a popular aspect of the SPG program so suddenly.

In my non expertness, I agree, that just seems so odd. I'd expect it closer to full merger rather the middle of April. I'm really hoping that CSR was formerly a Disney bus driver...

Grand Cayman has been on my radar screen for awhile too. My aunt is a TA and travels all the time. Grand Cayman is one of her favs, and keeps suggesting we go there rather than Hawaii. She says it's very safe, friendly, clean and "Americanized". Then some friends from church went earlier this year and came back just raving about it. I looked at their pics and heard their vacation stories and was hooked. They have children similar in age to mine so I could envision our family vacationing there. And then, lastly, I also read Mommypoints recently and loved her review. I was leaning to trying to get us to Hawaii in 2020 but now, I'm seriously considering GC instead. I just need to see how all the points fall into place.

We have stopped there several times from Disney Cruises. It really was pretty. To the point where my kids ask that we pick
a cruise where Grand Cayman is a stop. I never thought about just going on our own..now like you I will. My daughter went
on a sting ray/ turtle/snorkel excursion. One of the pictures the guy took of her we had blown up and hanging on a wall. So
many people who visit ask "where was this taken?" because of the stunning beach and beautiful water.

Oh no. If this is true, SPG points transfer at a glacial pace so you'd need to set a transfer in motion like NOW.

Wait ... so am I understanding this correctly that the SPG bonus points DH and I are trying to earn right now with out $7k spends each (for new business cards) might not be able to transfer to airline partners after April 16???? I just got my card and have barely put any spend on it because I've been focusing on the spend for my new CIP (that has better bonus categories); DH maybe has $2k of his done. If this is true, I'm wondering if I should bother with trying to meet the spends on the SPGs. Hotel points are pretty worthless to me. The whole point of getting these cards was for the airline transfers and the nice little bonus with the transfer of 20k miles. Please tell me I'm misunderstanding this rumor????? UGH. I guess I should figure out where to transfer our existing Starwood points just to be safe.

OOOH you left out the SPG from that original comment. I thought it was some other program, lol. Yeah that is a major bummer for those that use it. :(

Stumbled on this while reading that soul crushing spg data point https://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2018/04/09/united-polaris-cheat-sheet/ I don't recall anyone saying they're flying Polaris anytime soon but you never know (my bro once ended up being bumped into Polaris so it could happen to you even if you don't book it- we can dream right?)
We flew Polaris to China and back and loved it. As the flights were scheduled +12 hours we got pajamas and I still wear them, LOL. I have another Polaris flight in June so thanks for passing this on. Unfortunately it's to London so less than 12 hours--I'd love another set of PJs, but I'll make sure to ask for the slippers, mattress pad, and memory phone pillow (and maybe a mimosa :).

Keep meeting the spends for sure! Those programs weren't rumored to merge until Aug and there is a firestorm coming up now for SPG about this so we should get a response in the next couple days I hope. Marriott has that hotel and flights program you could always check out too. Or experiences or car rentals or a variety of stuff it looks like from their rewards page. I'm guessing they are lousy redemption rates but you could be looking at 275k marriott points between the 2 of you so I'd check out all your options before abandoning that ship! http://www.marriott.com/marriott-rewards/use.mi
Edit: math and here are Marriott's airline partner rates http://www.marriott.com/rewards/usepoints/morerew.mi

Only reason DH and I have the SPG Amex is the transfer to airlines with bonus. Getting on our accounts now and see about transferring. If between us we have 20k I am going to transfer now. So happy now didn't get the SPG Business...
