I love credit cards so much!

Really?? Man, that stinks for me. Was it through your school or College Board? I really despise College Board. I so wish they were a publicly traded company, would definitely have stock in them.

The school had DS go through some site called AP Test Service. I seem to recall they didn't take Amex, but Visa /MC was OK.

To piggyback on this, I know they only have a Discover Card and Chase debit. I assume Discover is not widely accepted in Greece, are MC/Visa common? Also does anyone know if Chase has foreign Tx fees on debit cards? Everything I could find seems to say yes but I can’t find it on Chases website. My sister & BIL hate cc and think their debit is the best. :sad2:

Here? Page 3 --> Other ATM and Debit Card Fee(2nd box) --> Exchange Rate Adjustment --> states "3% of withdrawal amount after conversion to US dollars.

edit: Should get them to go for the Charles Schwab Debit Card...

I’m going to try to get my sis to apply for a no fee card w/o foreign tx fees. She insists she can’t because she’s mostly a SAHM (she has a commission job that she’s made no commission on) and she has no income. I need to convince her to get a card like BOA Travel Rewards Card (no AF version)

ETA: They charge ftx fees when using debit card as a cc (non ATM) outside US? I’ve never used a debit card outside US.

Ok, so I just realized a conundrum here. I'm finally getting bids on my home improvement projects and a few of the places in the running will take CC's. Great! (Couple of them will take a CC for the whole project; if they'd let me I could open 6 or 8 cards if I did that )

I'd been holding off on applying until I knew for sure I could meet the spends as I still have 4k+ left on my SPG Biz after 4 weeks. But that means I am wanting to open 3 Chase cards in a short period of time :scared:

The modified - Original - plan was go for the CIC first and then double dip the CSR/CSP. But with the timelines getting tighter from the weather delays, I'm not sure I have 30 days between the apps. With the 2/30 rule for personal cards, will I get spanked on the 2nd sapphire application automatically? I know the system can't really see the other sapphire yet, but would it see the application at all for that rule?

Backup plan is I go for the CIC (because I can't convince hubby to reopen his "business" yet) and then convince hubby to try the double dip. But he's at 3/24 right now with the last account (AmEx) in Jan. If it worked that'd put him at 5/24 and he'd be out of the running with Chase for another whole year. (unless we get desperate and I try to remove his AU from BoA off the CR)

What do ya think about this?
If you did the CSR and csp it would give you 100k ur with 8k spend. If you get the CIC it’s 50k ur. I’d go for the double dip now and then in 35 days apply for the CIP. This would give you the most ur for your spend.

Is there a link about this Plastique company and how that all works?
Reddit group has some info. You can always ask here

Well, sorta good news from the IHG front, they updated the list of ineligible reward cert hotels and removed the ones that were included but were in the 40k threshold: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/full...hat-are-excluded-from-free-night-certificate/

As DoC pointed out, I'm still concerned that they may raise the points for those hotels later to be able to put them back on the list. I guess grab them while they're still 40k?

I'm not concerned. IHG changes points values once per year and that is usually late January or February and they announce the new point values which can go up or down. You usually have time to book at the old rate until the new announced rate goes into effect. It happens every year. Nothing stays the same in the rewards business.

Thx for this link. I did find even the platinum accounts have foreign fees. (I have this insane need to prove my sister is wrong :rolleyes1)

it seems so. says any transaction that requires a conversion(ie US Dollar --> euros) will charge an additional 3%.
what kind of chase account does she have? i think the CPC ones have fees waived i think.

Question for those who have airline partner expertise. My sister and BIL recently decided to go to Athens Greece this summer. Not being planners, they started looking at airfare, noted it going up, freaked & booked ASAP. They spent 6k on 5 tickets on SwissAir. Is it worth joining the frequent flyer program for SwissAir? Are those miles easily used on United since they are both Star Alliance?

Based on what I think you're asking, I'm going to answer it slightly differently. Instead of joining the SwissAir program, they should join United's frequent flyer program and have those flight miles credited to a United account. Unless they fly SwissAir a lot, it would be hard for them to accrue enough SwissAir miles to redeem for anything. At least with United, they have options to build up United balances (portal shopping, dining, credit cards, etc.) Here's the United page about that- https://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/ma...s/Pages/AirlinePartnerDetails.aspx?ItemId=297

I didn't find anyplace in England, Ireland, or France that took Discover, so my bet is that they would have a hard time finding places that will accept it in Greece. I like @Albort's suggestion about Charles Schwab (Visa) debit card. No ATM surcharges on withdrawal is very helpful, and no foreign transaction fees is the way to go. I think when I got mine, I had to open a checking account and an investor account and started with a $20 deposit.

I'm a SAHM with only DH's income and have more credit cards than I can deal with. She can do it. That BoA Travel Rewards card is a great pick!

Which platinum accounts?

Piggybacking off of this question, my dd is flying emirates this summer. Anyone know anything about that? I don't forsee her flying it again, but I didn't forsee her flying it in the first place, so what do I know? lol Should she sign up for emirate account?

Are you allowed to fund the account with a cc? :)

Have her get the Barclays Uber card. It's no annual fee. No FTF. Cash back.

Lol I wouldn't advise her signing up for an Emirate account after just a quick perusal of their frequent flyer program. For one thing, miles expire after ~3 years unless there's some activity in the account, so unless you think there's going to be more flying on Emirates in the next 3 years, those miles will go to waste. Google Emirates partners, and see if there are ones in the list you can foresee using in the future (Alaska Air? JetBlue? Virgin America?). Then find the details about how Emirates flights can be credited to that airline's program.

Haha, I like the way you think. ;) Per Doctor of Credit, Schwab does not allow credit card funding. But sometimes there's a $100 bonus for opening an account (although I don't think there's one out right now).

Looks like no to the CC funding. I may have asked this here before, but my dd will be 17 still when she travel to Thailand. Will she be able to use a debit card in my name? Or can I sign her up for this? Our own bank told her she could not have a debit card until she was 18, which does not seem right to me, but wondered if this was a restriction on accounts like this. Anyone know?

Oh, good suggestion. I feel like Barclays is tougher to get approval with than BoA, and their credit limits are super stingy. But Barclays credit cards also are Chip & PIN which can come in handy at unmanned kiosks. As an overall card, the Uber card is really attractive, maybe not so much on the signup bonus, but otherwise a really solid cash back card. Good choice.

its a pretty crappy week for him... haha.

Serious MS folks are pretty limited group! And I can't help but think they have better fish to fry than that card? But if a blogger is pushing it it's possible Barclays has put out referral offers for the bloggers in which case we might see some interesting, uh, perspectives on the card...

The odd thing was that this blogger did not have a referral link.

@calypso726 - did you ever find somewhere to buy Etsy GC's? I haven't found elsewhere other than Etsy itself, although I thought I had seen them somewhere before. Of course, I finally find what I was looking for on Etsy AFTER the AmEx offer expires

I am in the same boat as you. I thought I may have seen them somewhere at a store but can't remember where. Haven't bought any.

I would suggest that they use their United FF number and that way the flight gets credited as United FF miles.

https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/nn/refer-client.html Send yourself the email and send then pass it onto her, I think it requires a super generic code like “referral” or something. It’s not a normal referral as the sender gets nothing. They must be a 100% new to Schwab client to qualify and they have to put $1,000 in (at least that was my offer).
