I love credit cards so much!

I'm just learning about the changes to my IHG credit card! Can someone help walk me through this? I have the IHG Select Card ($49/year) and just got it in January.

If I sign up for the new IHG Premier card, am I eligible for the 80,000 point bonus? Is it even possible to have two IHG cards at once?

What do you think the chances are that they will terminate the Select credit card altogether?

I'm worried that they will discontinue the Select card altogether and automatically sign me up for the Premier card and then I will lose out on the bonus sign up.

It doesn't look like they are terminating the card, just offering new options, and no longer providing links for people to apply for the old card. My future plan includes getting the second card so as to have 2 free nights per year, but I have to wait until my Chase numbers come down below 5/24 as I have another chase card that I need to be under 5/24 to get.

To start with, we need a room near Cape Canaveral for a Disney Cruise (and hopefully annually if the Wife enjoys the trip). I'll dig around otherwise.

I also need to get the CIP. Wife has one so I can get a refer a friend bonus. I assume the 100k in branch offer cannot be piggy backed with the refer a friend?

correct - can't refer AND do in branch. Therefore refer is probably easier since you don't have to talk to a person, lol!

I referred my SO to the CIP and asked to be matched to the 100k offer and they replied back saying to contact my BRM. I plan on getting an email for a BRM and hopefully I can get him matched. No guarantee this will work though, but fingers crossed.

Informed delivery shows a $250 checking account bonus from TCF Bank is coming in the mail today. It doesn't seem to require a big initial deposit or direct deposit and has no maintenance fees. Will read all the details once it shows up in my box, but seems like an easy bonus to get. Has anyone else ever done a TCF Bank bonus?
I just did the TCF checking bonus last month! It was sooo easy! By far the easiest bonus I’ve ever done.

If yours is the same as mine was, I didn’t have to do any direct deposit - I just had to do a single bill pay over $250. I just used it to pay one of my Chase cards, and the bonus posted the day after the payment went through.

I didn’t try to fund it with a CC as I opened in-branch (and, I’m ashamed to say, I didn’t think to ask).

Happy to answer any other questions you have about it.

IHG has the 80,000 offer on their website. I assume that isn't the deal that supposed ends tonight where you can get one annual unlimited value free night?

No that is the new deal for the Premier card - $89 annual fee with the 40K or less free night. Maybe someone has a link to the old card that they can share? If that is a card you want?

The old card is the 'Select' card.

Someone applied for the CIP under the 80k UR offer, SMed Chase to be matched to 100k UR because he's in a state with no physical Chase branches and therefore no access to BRM/in-branch offer. Chase actually said ok!

The old card is the 'Select' card.
Here's a link that still works:

Maybe not? Depends on the card it's offering, the $49 Select card is the offer that ends today. DoC has a write up on where to trigger the best offers:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/last...possibly-unrestricted-free-night-certificate/

If you can get the stmt credit and the 80k for the $49 AF, that's the one I'd go for.

Right now, subject to change at any time, all bills paid through plastiq are coding 3x on CIP card :) Nice little UR point maker!

ETA: just saw your plastiq note- OMG CIP is the Card for you right now!

CIP here I come! Thank y'all very much for helping me out!

Also of note - you could hold these points, get a CSR alter and then you can redeem these points at 1.50 via the CSR

I’d go for the CIP first then get the CSR

That is the plan! I'm going to reach the spending minimum and then apply for CSR.

(with age comes wisdom?)

YES! I don't want to trigger any old habits, took 10 years to recover. :scared:

I did look through DOC before posting and saw that all of the TCF offers were expired that he has listed. That is why I wanted to ask here. They all say soft pull though, so seems alright there. And data points from previous offers say up to $1000 in credit card funding. I haven't tried credit card funding a bank account before, but I am considering trying this with DH's IHG card once it arrives. Can I send an SM to get the cash advance limit set as low as possible?
I sm asking them to lower it to $100 cash advance. This way you don’t have to go back and forth. Worked for me.

Wonder if they changed it. I was given a no to both DH and I. There’s not a chase within 100 miles of us anymore.

Min spend for CIP is $5k and CSR $4k
Something to think about is double dipping CSP if you can get your Mortage through plastiq it might be worth it for the extra 50-60k UR.

Heads up on coding for an IHG points and cash transaction: it does not code as Travel for purposes of the CSR. Back story is that we are planning to go to the Cal football game at Oregon State this Fall, partly because we are big Cal fans, but mostly as an opportunity to scout out Oregon State as a potential college choice for my high school DD. The hotel choices are not plentiful in Corvallis, Oregon, lol. I realize we could stay in Portland, but since our focus is on exploring the campus (as well as going to the football game), I thought it would be good to stay in Corvallis itself. There is a Hilton Garden Inn on the actual campus, but for that weekend, room prices were in the $300s per night, which just seemed absurd to me for a Hilton Garden Inn. I also found a Holiday Inn Express that looks like it is in a good location. I did not have enough IHG points to cover both nights, but for $189 and 30k points (which I did have), I could get both nights. $189 for a two-night hotel stay seemed much better than $600+ for the Hilton Garden Inn, so I went for it. It never occurred to me that the $189 I put on the CSR wouldn't code as travel, since it was a purchase from a hotel chain. However, I only received 1x UR on that $189. I SM'ed Chase about it, and they responded that "IHG points and cash categorizes themselves as 'Buying/Shopping Clubs, Services' with Visa and MasterCard, which isn't in the bonus category." Do points purchases at other hotel chains also not code as travel? (This transaction ultimately ended up being a 30,000 points purchase to cover the second night, the way IHG does points and cash). I am pressing the point with Chase to see if they will make a courtesy adjustment to give me the extra 2x points, so I'll report back on whether I'm successful, but I wanted others to be aware of this for any future IHG points and cash transactions.

Wow! Planning to apply for myself on May 1. Definitely going to try this. There are no Chase branches in my state and the closest one I think is about 4 hours from here. I would move all my banking to them if I could!

In the final update to my hotels.com saga, after speaking with four different people I finally took to Twitter where I told them I would be canceling the 11 pending nights I have booked with them and switch to Priceline instead. (FYI, Priceline is just about the only OTA not affiliated with hotels.com or it’s parent company). About two hours after explaining the situation in a DM, they messaged me to say that both of my rewards nights has been reinstated. I did thank them sincerely and say that I appreciated them figuring out the situation.

Glad you are decided. CIP seems like great card for you!

Have you gotten signed up for DISchurners yet? If not, pm @Albort or @SouthFayetteFan to get setup. There are support links for the CIP (if you don’t already have one from your sister or someone else).

Good luck on the approval! If you get a 30-day pending message, don’t panic. It’s pretty common.
