I love credit cards so much!

IF i apply the fee free dollars to my plastiq account when paying a bill that is over the referral amount how does that work. will i pay the remaining balance of the transaction fee?
Yup! They will calculate the fee on what's left of your payment after the FFD are applied.

I received an offer to upgrade my AmEx Business Gold Rewards card to a Business Platinum card. It says I'll earn 50,000 points if I spend $10,000 in 5 months. I got my Business Gold Card in August last year and it had the annual fee waived for the first year, and I was planning on cancelling at the year mark to aviod the $175 annual fee. I really don't use the card any longer.

I don't see any reason to upgrade to this card. It sounds like the $450 annual fee kicks in right away - I see that I get the $200 airline credit which we would use this year, but otherwise, I don't see a real benefit. We don't have many purchases over $5,000 to get the 1.5x points and otherwise most things would just post at 1x.

Please let me know if I'm missing something, because I am definitely no expert on AmEx cards - the Business Gold is the only one that I have.

You don't want to upgrade because you could apply for the Biz Plat with the 100K sign on bonus.

Probably won't affect many here but I was going through my Wyndham account and coincidentally an email from them popped up:

"
As a valued member, we want you to be the first to know about an important change we’re making to Wyndham Rewards®. Earlier today, Wyndham Hotel Group announced its intention to sell the Knights Inn® hotel brand to RLH Corporation. As a result, effective May 2, 2018, the brand will no longer be a part of Wyndham Rewards. Here’s what this change means for you:

• Members can continue to earn Wyndham Rewards points for Qualified Stays at Knights Inn hotels with check-in dates on or before May 1, 2018 and checkout dates on or before May 10, 2018. Members may also redeem Wyndham Rewards points at a Knights Inn hotel between now and May 1, 2018.

• Beginning May 2, 2018, members who check-in to a Knights Inn hotel will no longer earn Wyndham Rewards points for any nights of that stay, nor will they be able to redeem points at Knights Inn locations.

• Members may continue making reservations at Knights Inn hotels for stays with check-in dates after May 1, 2018, but should do so with the understanding that those reservations will no longer earn Wyndham Rewards points. Go free and go fast awards with check-in dates on or after May 2, 2018 should be honored, however, as of May 2, 2018, you may no longer book additional award nights.

• Subject to the above, any existing reservations you have at a Knights Inn will be honored.

Wyndham Rewards continues to be the world’s most generous hotel loyalty program, and we look forward to welcoming you to redeem again soon at thousands of hotels, condos or homes around the globe.
"

I'm laughing at the most generous hotel loyalty program. I guess because you get a min of 1000 pts per stay? Otherwise I'm confused. I'm now calling them the "Why bother" program. Their points expire after 4 years. Stupidly I was thinking if I kept the account active I'd be ok, but now that I did that I still see I have points slated to expire next year. Quick read and :headache: I've got until Oct of 2019 to figure it out, maybe I'll get to use them up on the Alaska trip and then just not bother anymore. I only had an account because they were a preferred program for work many years ago so, yes I'll collect free points, but since then I've had trouble with them.

Ugh!!! My husband is winding up a multi-day golf trip with some friends at a golf resort in Oregon, and I've now seen two (not small) charges for this trip come through on our CFU. Pretty sure the charges would code either as a hotel or restaurant based on the Visa Supplier Locator, so WHY ISN'T HE USING THE CSR???? I've texted him to see if he can get the charges switched when he checks out. Why, oh why, is it so hard for him to use the right card? :headache:

From DoC: Barclays Arrival Premier Now Live – Doesn’t Transfer 1:1 (1.4 or 1.7 to 1)

Card Basics
  • No sign up bonus
  • Card earns 2x miles per $1 spent
  • Ability to transfer miles to Barclays travel partners
  • $150 annual fee
  • Annual spend bonuses:
    • Spend $15,000 in a card membership year and get 15,000 bonus miles
    • Spend an additional $10,000 and get an additional 10,000 bonus miles (total of $25,000 spend for 25,000 miles)
  • Global Entry credit
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Lounge Key access (basically just Priority Pass, but you have to pay for lounge access at $27 per entry)
  • In early May existing Barclays Arrival/Arrival Plus cardholders will be able to convert to this product. Points earned on the Arrival/Arrival Plus do not carry over to this card
Travel Partners
One of the most exciting things about this card in the lead up is the possibility to transfer the miles this card earns into other programs. The transfer partners are:
  • Aeromexico
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • China Eastern
  • Etihad
  • EVA Air
  • Japan Airlines (JAL)
  • Jet Airways
  • Malaysia Airlines
  • Qantas
The transfer rate is 1.4 arrival miles = 1 miles with all of these programs apart from Japan Airlines. Japan Airlines requires 1.7 arrival miles per Japan airlines mile.

Other Redemptions Options
You can still redeem miles for 1¢ per point like you can with the Barclays Arrival/Arrival Plus products. This card does not carry the 5% rebate the Arrival Plus does.

None of that is appealing.

Ok, it wasn't just me who thought that :)

It's pretty rare that I meet a card I don't like...and this my friends is a card I don't like...

This offer does not make sense for you, you are definitely correct.

To me, this would only make sense to somebody who:
a) is chasing MRs and has a great use for them
b) has already gotten the Business Platinum card before and earned a lucrative signup bonus on it
c) is running out of card options and has large organic spend or a large purchase coming up (roof, other housing project, etc.)

I'd say outside of those 3 things being true for most people this will be a MISS :)

So what's the best way to get a "replacement" card from Amex? Can we just order one online like Chase and Discover? Or do I have to figure out how to add it to Google Pay or something?

It just occurred to me this weekend that I've been doing all the grocery shopping for the past couple months but hubby has the 3% BCE card :headache: I've been trying to decide what's better, 2x MR or 2% Discover (from cashback match) and duh! 3% I think trumps that. So it'd be nice to have an extra card so we're not trying to remember to swap the one back and forth.

It's handled for the next couple months with Discover (and Chase) quarter but will need it in the future. And I'd like to do it now before I forget again as I really have a blind spot on this card. It was the random card not planned for in any way and I just can't seem to remember about it.... even as we just discussed last week why has he been using it at restaurants??
("Because it gets 3% ::looks at me like i'm stupid::"
"Uh no, that's at grocery stores only. You can get 2% at gas stations and dept stores and that's about it"
"Really?"
"Really"
::double checks me on his phone:: "Oh" )
It took me until the weekend when I was mapping out grocery purchases for the quarterly bonuses for it to randomly pop into my head that I should just be using his card normally.

Men are visual creatures. Labels will help.

Believe it or not, he did label his own cards. To be fair to him, I think the disconnect is that he very rarely travels on his own, and I do all of our family travel planning. So to him, the CSR is for dining and parking. He probably didn't connect parking as a subset of travel to make the lightbulb go on that he should use the CSR for any travel expense.

Guys - I think we're in a funk here... SPG and Delta increased offers were long ago... CIC increased offer is old news now... Barclay new card kinda stinks... IHG changes are bad news... Southwest devaluation is bad news... And we haven't really had any exciting newbies jump into our thread where we all get excited for their newfound churning love.

We need something big, LOL! Where's that increased CSR offer when we need it? Why can't AMEX release some details on their new SPG/Marriott cards...give us something here to excite the masses :) haha!

random question...other then our private group site, where would a good place to try and post our links at to other sites?

Actually I was just thinking after @disneymagicgirl posted about it being quiet it's a good thing to take a break. Need a period of rest in between the adrenaline rushes to refuel

The big one is r/churning but that requires you to meet karma requirements (essentially you have to post information that garners "upvotes" from the community). Doctor of Credit sometimes posts threads where you can share your link but I'd say outside of the Disney card offer from a few months ago most of us here have had little success with that. I personally share mine on Facebook sometimes and with friends and family via email from conversations. I think for many folks here, until r/DISchurners came along they had never received a support click.

I agree. I'm not really minding the quiet. I don't need anymore cards to tempt me right now (only $34 into 7k spend on the spg biz:crazy2:) and I've got a lot of life I need to get caught up on :laundy:

I was just poking around my AmEx trying to get the Amazon offer to pop up and I got one for JWMarriott:

Get a one-time $40 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $200+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with JW Marriott from 3/30/18 to 6/18/2018.

Reservations must be made online at jwmarriott.com, by using the Marriott Mobile App or via phone to Marriott Worldwide Reservations,1-888-236-2427. Offer not valid on international locations outside the US. random question...other then our private group site, where would a good place to try and post our links at to other sites?

A few of us who have been here a long time used to share links with each other through pm's but that was pretty infrequent. Then @SouthFayetteFan started the DISchurners group and that has certainly given us a better avenue for supporting each other.

A few here are active on r/churning and can post links there but that isn't open to most of us because we are not regular contributors to that site.

Outside of that, I am guessing most of us here do not post links any other places. You can certainly put them on social media if you feel you could get some clicks that way. I am not really into social media so I don't do that either.

And I've still got 27 days before I can (should) apply for my next card... I'm so bored :rotfl2:

Yup! They will calculate the fee on what's left of your payment after the FFD are applied.
can you stack the FFD's? If not then, everyone using plastiq should refer each other to make it somewhat free lol.
