I love credit cards so much!

That sounds like such a borderline case; it could either code as travel, or education, or something totally different. In the future, you could try to look up the merchant by its MCC (merchant category code) on the Visa Supplier Locator site: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator/search/index.jsp. This should hopefully give you some certainty how a particular merchant codes on Visa cards.

If it’s a sizeable charge, you could press your case that you had a reasonable belief that a “travel study program” would count as “travel,” and if that’s not actually the case it wasn’t made clear to you, and ask if Chase could extend you a courtesy — as a long time and valued customer — by crediting you the points this one time. If you don’t have any luck the first time, try a few more times. I’ve read some success stories of one time courtesy adjustments.

Good luck!
Thank you so much. This is great! I will give it a shot. It's sizable so definitely worth the effort. I've never heard of that site before. Really cool! It probably wouldn't have occurred to me even to look it up though--it seems so obvious. I may broach it with the program itself. I have a much bigger balance due next year, and I hate the thought of losing those kind of points.

Okay, I get it. Thanks. The same applies to me. Easy to got through 250 at Costco, LOL. I will set up Visa Checkout. Also where do I find the cash cards? I just looked through the categories and didn't see it.

They are listed under gift cards.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster!

SW cc question-
I will admit I have fallen behind on reading, but did I miss where they have made it so that a person cannot receive the sign up bonus for a personal AND business credit card? My husband has a legit business and signed up for the business version, but they are not giving him the bonus because he has received it for his personal account. The chase rep is adamant this is not a new change, but the phone calls have been going on for days and they will not budge. I don't want to draw too much attention, but I just received the bonus for my personal and business credit card, so I'm not sure what the difference is. I'm not sure what to do next? Any ideas? Wait a few days and call again??

Extra background info:
Somehow the points earned on my husbands business cc were going into my RR account and not his (although his points from his personal card DO go to his RR acct.) MY RR account HAD received the bonus points for my business credit card app/spend. I said to the rep that once we resolve the account numbers it should fix things because maybe the system thinks that specific RR acct has already received the bonus and therefore is not giving it. However, while we were addressing that part on the phone (the switched RR account numbers) he said he got the response from the "escalation team" that it does not matter about the RR number and that he still will not receive the bonus because he received one on the personal cc. He told me I could not do anything about it and that calling will not change the outcome. He told me they are similar products and referred me to "the wording on the website." What am I missing here?? Doesn't pretty much everyone do this?? (open pers and business SW cc)

Thank you!!!!

This thread has a lot of good discussion about churning and getting a mortgage: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/7gtbo3/churning_impacts_on_the_mortgage_lending_process/

Just a note on this - we refinanced one of our rentals a few months ago, and I was a little nervous. However, none of our business accounts appeared on the credit report. Also, I made some payments ahead of schedule just so the cards wouldn't show balances (or very low balances). It was no big deal for us. Mortgage company never even asked about the credit cards. And a side note that I think is interesting - Credit Karma showed scores well over 800 for both DH and I. When the mortgage company pulled scores, they were quite a bit lower. Not terrible but a good 30 points(ish) lower. I can't recall which bureaus they pulled from, but thought the difference was odd.

Yes, when I set them up, I had to pick a date from the calendar and the first available date was April 2nd for all of the payments. I just checked again and my first one has not been sent. I got the email from them saying it was processed successfully and they would send a check. It showed up on my CIP as a pending charge. Is there a chance they will "accept it" and later they decide they will not send it? This is the first time I have used plastiq so uncharted territory for me?
If you set them for April 2nd I wouldn't expect to see any movement on them yet. As long as you aren't being asked for additional information I would wait it out a bit longer.

Looking for some help with a coding issue. I used my new CIP to put down a deposit on a trip I'm taking with a friend next year that is through a university travel study program. The CIP only coded 1x rather than 3x for travel. I sent a SM message that it was travel but they sent back the form excuse of "we're dependent on how the merchant codes it," yada yada. Any tips as to what to write back to get it reconsidered? Any way to avoid something like this in the future? Really frustrating!

I would definitely reply to the SM and ask to escalate to a supervisor. I have had success at least twice getting “courtesy” adjustments in this manner. The first time involved train tickets from London to Penzance that somehow did not code as travel even though they were TRAIN tickets. The second was the balance payment for our Austin Adventures Yellowstone trip. For that one, I compared it to ABD or Nat Geo travel and they caved right away and made the adjustment once I escalated. The train one was surprisingly harder, but I persevered and got the adjustment. If they denied me on the Austin one, my backup plan was to ask to switch the charge to my CFU so I’d at least get 1.5x. Can’t remember if you have that card or not. BTW, the first response from Chase on both those inquiries was the standard one about them not being responsible for how the transaction codes. I just replied that while I understood the answer, I was entirely unsatisfied with it because these were clearly travel charges.

Just in case someone else runs into this... DHs SPG personal card is rarely used, I usually carry it in case I run into a one per account type online deal like Raise. So I hadn't logged in for a bit. But I did get him an Employee card several months into MY SPG biz spending... which he never even put in his wallet. But we are able to see it in his account. It had me concerned this weekend when I logged in to activate HIS new SPG biz card and saw two biz cards, I was worried about duplicate apps or something. Mystery solved!

And unrelated, I also went for the Costco Visa Checkout deal. I was already planning on buying a $200 cash card with my Discover, so here's hoping I get an extra $50 on top of what I'd planned. If not, I'm just losing out on $10 of Discover cashback.

So I’m currently sitting in my Kimpton hotel room in Seattle trying to talk myself down from the ledge of wanting to apply for the current IHG card while it can still be had. I was definitely planning to get the card after I apply for the CIP and then maybe the CIC, because I don’t get back under 5/24 until October. I need to convince myself to stick with my “UR points are king” strategy and not delay my ability to get the CIP for 3 months by applying for IHG now. And DH just got CSP and CIP in two successive months, so I don’t want to risk having him apply. Sigh....I think I’m just gonna have to take my chances on what the new cards look like down the road. The premier doesn’t sound too bad as long as the certificate can be used at all IHG hotels. Does anyone think it is worth delaying my ability to get the CIP to get the IHG now?

@SouthFayetteFan I called and PC'ed my CFU to a CF. The csr agreed to activate my q1 and q2 categories but he said the official change of product would not take place for 1-2 days??? Said I would not earn any q1 rewards right now. Is that what they told you? I was going to to ahead and use Apple pay tonight to max out the category but thinking I should wait.

This is so bizarre. I haven’t seen any other DP of someone being denied the bonus for a personal because they have the business. What I think the issue is is his business points were going to your account and you have the personal points so that’s probably the issue. Get the accounts sorted out and maybe it will fix itself. If not fight and ask to speak to supervisors.

I'm on the ledge with you about the IHG. Been on the ledge all day (couldn't even sleep last night thinking about it lol!). I just applied for the spg biz which is going to be plenty of spend to keep me busy but I'm just sick now cause I really want the $49 IHG. The $29 would be useless to me and the $89 has more benefits than I need or want.

You should be able to see online on the UR site whether it’s activated or not. Mine said Q1 activated right away and I did a test payment of $5 and see the 25 URs pending.

I am not sure what to do in your case. I already have the CIP and I love the signup bonus and plastiq coding. I'd have a hard time delaying that for the IHG.

Another here that met a chunk of MSR, dh SPG BIZ, with my season renewal of theater Tix. We are also getting Hamilton but I would have renewed anyway. We have been season holders for several years. We supposedly will have access to a very limited number of extra tickets but they have yet to give us any details. I need at least two for dh and ds (dd is my ticket partner). If I can get more it will just be a bonus. I know suddenly i will be everyone’s best friend LOL. already got a message two weeks ago from a friend who’s sister wanted to know if I was going to sell my Hamilton Tix. Um, no.

I hope they leave the current IHG as is too, for those of us that have it already.

My account still shows the card as a CFU and I don't see the q1 activated. Guess I'll just wait a couple days.

Researching my DDs top college pick after getting Financial aid statement and GASP, they do not take credit cards at all! I thought it was bad that my older DDs school takes it but charges a fee. So, if she does go here, what are my options? Is this a type of thing I can use plastiq for? Or should I tell her not to even consider this school. lol Just kidding, sort of. :rolleyes1 My credit card points are the only way I am going to travel in the next 6 years until college is done for all 3.
