I love credit cards so much!

Calculating my next move, any pointers would be much appreciated. Started this new hobby in September. We are in 2 player mode

I'm sitting at 5/24 + an AU (SPG of my mom's)
  • 1. Amex SPG (mine) - 3/16
  • 2. Freedom - 9/17
  • Ink - 9/17
  • 3. CSP 11/17
  • 4. CSR 11/17
  • 5. Mariott 1/18

My concern about sticking with chase is that I've hit them hard. But...worst case is they just deny the CIC, right?

I guess I'm leaning this way, unless you all think this isn't a good move. I figure I'll wrap this last one up with chase and then move on to Amex?

Question on the Amex Plats. Anyone have experience with upgrades at the Disney S&D? Good upgrades? We often travel with my mom, so any more space would be a nice pro when considering the high AF. Oh and if you do the Amex Plat Ameriprise do you get SPG Status with that too?

its important now to know your */12 and */6 with chase now. * being the number of cards u apply for with chase.(this rule isnt set in stone, you may be lucky u may not but its a good rule to follow based on the shutdowns i have seen).
looking at your list, your at 5/12, 4/6... i dont recommend anything with chase right now. (my 2 cents)

As for Ameriprise, yes you can get SPG gold/Marriott Gold/Hilton gold?

How do you check the earned UR points for each transaction? I'm trying to verify that my utility payments are earning 3X via Plastiq on our CIP.
Go to the UR portal. Select the CIP if it isn't already selected. Scroll down a little on the left in the box that says "Your UR Points" the bottom will say "review more activity". Click. Scroll down and you will see the points awarded for every posted transaction.

I love jetblue but the card annoys me. I applied end of Dec. Received the card a week later. Met the minimum a week
after that and still haven't received the points! It is almost March. Contrast this to my Amex that i received before
the statement even ended.

I'm really surprised at Barclay as i have their Hawaiian and arrival card and bonuses posted promptly.

*By the way after speaking to a card rep you have to pay the annual fee first which isn't applied until your
SECOND statement. Then after that closes they have 4-6 weeks to post your points. Tak about
stretching it out!
My annual fee posted even before i got the card, I paid it and points posted on first statement.

I'm leaning towards this...wait until end of March/April and I'll be under 5/24. Apply for CIC (I do have a legit business, so hopefully 2 business cards wouldn't be an issue). DH does have a CIC, but I'm enjoying amassing UR points and this would add a nice little chunk. --> Then, I could potentially get another Chase card and still be under 5/24 (since the business card doesn't count), right? Honestly, unless I did the Unlimited, I don't know what other 5/24 card I would need. Southwest sounds great, but airport is an AA hub and we don't fly much anyway.

No. The worst case scenario with Chase is you are put into a financial review after a few months of getting your card at which time all your Chase credit cards are frozen unannounced to you. Upon completion (takes a week or 2) they decide whether or not you can keep all, some or none of your Chase credit cards. Your bank accounts with Chase are not affected due to this, but they also have no bearing on the result so even having $1 million in assets with Chase does not affect your financial review of credit cards. If they decide you are abusing their system / too much of a financial risk and you are shut down completely you will have a set time period in which to redeem or move your URs.

That said, financial reviews are rare and the people most likely to be burned by them spend huge amounts of money on their credit cards generally pushing their CLs (doesn't matter that they pay it all off on time)- [ETA- I think? maybe some people got burned without running huge charges and that's when we all got nervous, those people had just opened up lots of cards]. @SouthFayetteFan recently compiled some DPs on Chase financial reviews from Reddit but I can't seem to find the info- darn DIS search function!

@kayteekt - I would tread lightly on another Chase card in March or April. I've reviewed numerous shutdown DPs and you're definitely approaching risky territory. Of course numerous other factors come into play (combined CL across all issuers, # of chase cards, Chase combined CL, AAoA, # of recent new accounts, # of inquiries, etc.) but the common factor is hitting Chase too hard. You indicate you're in 2 player mode so perhaps it's time for your spouse to get a card or 2. OR have you considered an SPG biz card? I would probably wait until at least July (and maybe even Sept) before coming back to Chase based on the fact that you got 5 cards in 6 months from them.

I'm about to jump back into Chase and I think my plan is to try to keep a pace of no more than 5 cards in 12 months and see how it goes. I'm also planning on proactively reducing limits on existing Chase cards and closing inactive accounts as part of that too.

We just checked into Hyatt Recency Maui on Saturday. Rooms for trip are either the 2 free rooms off the credit card or 20k World of Hyatt point rooms (so the cheap rooms). First room they gave us was not great. I went down and talked to them. It was worth the effort. After I asked they upgraded us to a mountain partial ocean view. Huge improvement from first room looking over valet parking. Just to make clear I asked if charge and he said no "if Discoverist status (which is what I have because of credit card) they will upgrade if can." But apparently you need to ask! As I sit on the balcony writing this definitely worth it. Know always interest in Hawaii so will post more about this cheap credit card point trip when I get back.

I will be very interested to hear your trip report since we have our eye on Hawaii in 2019. Have an amazing trip!

My annual fee posted even before i got the card, I paid it and points posted on first statement.

Wow! When was this? I wonder if things have changed. I looked back on my records. Applied/approved Dec 30th.

Received card Jan 9th. Put the 1k spend by Jan 15th. Paid it the 17th. Called to see where my points are and was told
about 4-6 weeks AFTER i pay the annual fee. I didnt have a problem with that except the annual fee JUST POSTED
Feb 20th. They waited until almost the end of the 2nd statement to charge it!

So I'm still waiting..o_O Good thing I was not planning on using the points until next year.

I applied beginning of November, points posted end of November. DH applied in December, points posted in January because he did NOT pay his annual fee until January.

Please let us know how the trip went. We are going to Maui end of May but using the Hyatt free nights for Kauai afterwards.
I'm always curious what kind of room you get for "free". I sure would like an upgrade if its a dud. lol

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Do you know what part of December? My friend applied right before Christmas and she hasn't gotten her
points either. When i called they said apps around Christmas are "behind". Hmmm

Barclay is usually on the ball for me.

Thanks so much @Albort @gottalovepluto & @SouthFayetteFan. I definitely don't want to risk a shut down. Very good information to have. I suppose I'll cool my jets :) I really didn't expect to get through them so fast, DH and I both have businesses...therefore we have extra expenses associated with those that have helped us run through the MS rather quickly.

Need to re-group. DH and I both have personal SPG's, I was kind of waiting to see if they would up the biz bonus in March or April. I think I'll continue to wait on that. I've been entertaining an Amex Plat (of some sort) but the AF's are so high and unlike the Reserve, the travel credit seems to be harder to recoup, that's why I questioned the Ameriprise (no AF in year 1). We'll be at the S/D a couple of times at least over the next 12 months, so SPG status would be great, if the upgrades are good anyway.

As far as concentrating on DH, we had started. I got a little scared b/c he was denied for a CIP on the first go round. We called in and got it thru though. He's further along in his 5/24 than I originally thought. He had some cards he uses for business move to different partners and issue new cards, so when I pulled his history it looks like he got a new card then.
  • #1 Amex Lowe's - 3/16
  • #2 Paypal M/C - 5/16
  • Chase Ink Pref - 11/17
  • Chase Ink Cash - 1/18 (We incorporated and this one's under his FEIN, not sure if that matters)
  • #3 Amex SPG Personal - 1/18
  • #4 Chase Freedom - 1/18
For him, I was thinking and this may be off...#5 for him Chase Mariott (sometime in March, but maybe this is too soon?) I have Mariott so I can refer him. Then when the first ones drop off do the CSR/CSP combo.

The Ameriprise is churnable. I was told to wait 15 days in between is fine... the only downside to it is that it will hurt your 5/24 quicker. you be +1 every year. To be honest, this is probably gonna be my next card, only card left in chase would be CIP but i already have a CI+. I think Chase points are easy to earn so i kinda want to focus on other cards. Ameriprise is strictly for status and benefits.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. You've hit Chase pretty hard, and your dh is 3 CHase cards in 4 mos?? I'd not push Chase any further for him either right now. I'd give him a few months breathing room too from Chase.

The Ameriprise seems like a god choice for you as long as you are ok with your 5/24 increase from it.

PSA: if anyone is looking to double dip CSR/CSP... hold off for now... increased bonuses may be coming.

I saw that the CSP is offering a 60,000 bonus. I was really hoping for increased bonuses but not until later this year! Wonder how long it will last...
