I love credit cards so much!

Sorry if I freaked anybody out. I wanted to put the information out there just so that people can stay up on the current trends/reports.

1) For people newer to the game (i.e. less than 5/24) I would pay attention to the shutdowns where a person got 4 Chase cards in 5 months and the person who attempted a 6th Chase application in 11 months. This basically backs up the advice that's been given recently of keeping things slow with Chase. Nobody quite knows how fast is too fast...but obviously these examples were. We all know that you can potentially get 8 or 9 cards within your 5/24 limit (2-3 Biz + a double dip at 4/24) but if that's your strategy you probably need to try to execute it over an 18+ month time frame.

2) For the veterans (i.e. 10/24 or more) it seems that once you leave Chase...you may not want to come back unless you quiet things down for a good long time prior. You also need to weigh how bad a shutdown would be...if you are in 2 player mode and have duplicates of many cards maybe shutdown isn't terrible. If you're generating decent referral points shutdown would cause you to lose those point earning opportunities. Obviously everybody's situation is different.

3) For those in the middle (i.e. 6/24 - 9/24) You probably need to decide which camp you're in - are you going to forget Chase and move on (now you're a #2)...or are you trying to get back in Chase's good graces (now you're a #1).

Of course the primary strategy for everybody here to "slow their roll" so to speak is to intersperse some Business cards that DO NOT report to your personal credit report. Additionally - for those in 2 player, alternating applications can make both players look better!

@wendow - to answer your question on the co-brands...the reason most of those cards cause the shutdowns is because they are the only cards you can get beyond 5/24. I'm sure if somebody managed to get a CSR at 19/12 or 42/24 they would be a prime shutdown candidate too. The problem is, nobody who is 42/24 is getting a CSR these days, haha.

@jhoannam - You're in an interesting situation. I'd love to say you'd be fine to get that Marriott Biz...but based on your strategy (and the fact that CIP, CSP/CSR will be much more lucrative than Marriott Biz) it might be for the best to forego the Marriott to keep safe.

@Calfan - At this time the "type" of spend has no bearing on this so I wouldn't worry. These shutdown reports all relate to applying for too many cards too fast.

Thanks for this. Glad to know the type of spend doesn't seem to have played a role in the shutdowns. I don't need my Marriott points until November, so I'll just space out the minimum spend to be safe, and I don't typically MS. I don't plan to apply for another Chase card until late October or early November when I get back to 4/24, and I'm only planning to apply for one then (CIP), so I'm feeling relatively ok given the data points that have been shared on the shutdowns.

I just posted the following over in r/churning: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/7vmdqp/daily_discussion_thread_february_06_2018/dtuoum9/ I'm going to post it here too for everybody's benefit. It's some detail regarding Chase Shutdowns that have been reported thus far.

*********************************

I did this awhile back and figured I'd do another quick summary of the shutdown reports for those interested. Last time I provided VERY minimal details so this time I'm going to do a bullet point by user. FYI: It seems having a banking relationship with Chase has no bearing on whether you are shutdown AND whether you are reinstated so I didn't even include that detail as a bullet below. ALSO I didn't include any detail on MS activity as it had no bearing on these shutdown reports (that's not to say you can't be shutdown for MSing but it's not really related to the concern we're discussing here).

You can head to the Shutdown Reports Thread if you want to read these in detail but this just gives a picture of where these are coming from.

Also here are two great discussions on the Chase shutdowns and how you may want to adjust your approach to avoid it:

Sorry to quote all of this...But the fact that I opened 3 Chase cards in 5 months has me concerned. Not sure if I should really be worried. But I guess I'll find out when I'm ready to move onto my next Chase card..

I've open 3 in 5 months as well, 2 personal and 1 business. I'm planning to lay low for a few while working through Marriott Biz spend and then will have DH apply for a CIP.

Justifiable homicide???
I think you guys will understand ... my husband got "confused" and has been charging all his food this month on the Chase Freedom and not the CSR. Bye bye BB bonus points. Crying right now.
been there done that. Don't cry...:rotfl2:at least you're making some points.... last week at WM I forgot to use chasepay and used a csr instead...bye bye extra points. I was annoyed, but only for a minute.....:rotfl: BTW my 10x from Shoprite on the CSR finally posted!!!! yay.

I opened 4 Chase cards in 3 months. CSP, CSR, then both SW personal, putting me at 4/24. From July through September last year. I'm not going anywhere near a new Chase card for myself anytime in the foreseeable future. I'm currently working on my SPG biz MS. My husband will get either the same (I'll refer him) or the CIP next. I may wait on getting him the CIP so I can time it that he still has the card to refer me. That'll be a while.

Has anyone done the Hyatt Visa $30 statement credit on groceries with Disney gift card? Did it go OK? How do you know if it works with gift cards because it's not excluded? I was thinking of doing it at Kroger.

I just added referral links to the DISChurners Reddit page a little while ago, and I got the Chase referral links by going into my Chase account and clicking on Offers. Referral links for CSR, Freedom and CFU popped up.

Is this different than r/churning? Every time I have asked a question there I get downvoted so I avoid it other than to read.

Very different! It's just those of us on this board who are in the DIS reddit churning group and we don't downvote anyone :) I don't care for r/churning either.

I always wondered if people downvote to prevent from posting referral links. lol

Is it more than just referral links in this group, like advice or discussion? Thanks for answering!

Yes, there is a special DISChurners reddit page for DISBoards members that I believe @SouthFayetteFan set up. You can send him a PM to be added.

Yes - our Reddit page is a private closed group - only for people who find us through the DISboards. There's no negativity and it's safe! Primarily it's a way to share links and support each other. There are some informational posts also - there's very little discussion there. If you PM me your Reddit name I can add you and send you the pertinent links.

OK Let me figure out how to message. I found this thread while looking for disney churning advice and like it a lot more. I will use your group to find my next referral link for our next card after this trip.

I'm not sure why people downvote either. I'm guessing it's like you say! Not a lot of discussion in our reddit group. We try to keep most of the discussion here so it can benefit everyone.

Cue "Cell Block Tango" music from Chicago ... all together now ...

He had it coming
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame
If you'd have been there
If you'd have heard it
I betcha you would have done the same!

ROFL!!! Love Chicago. And yes ... exactly!!! I actually own a DVD of this so I may have to make DH watch this weekend.

Awesome on the points!!! And yes, I'm trying not to cry or bang my head against the table, LOL. I'm going to make a cheat sheet post-it for him and force him to use it :) But I think the threat of sitting in coach worked.

anyone think a spg biz might trigger something chasewise?

The SPG Biz isn't reported to your personal credit report; however, a hard pull will appear as an inquiry. Too many inquiries could be a factor in denying an application or a shutdown, but I don't know how it might factor into Chase's "bust out" scoring.

I'd note that Amex did not do a hard pull for my SPG Biz. I've seen many reports that Amex may not do a hard pull on new applications for credit if they had already pulled your credit report recently on a prior application. I had last applied for an Amex card in February 2017 before the SPG Biz in October 2017, so a period of 8 months and still no hard pull. I'm thinking Chase has no idea I have a SPG Biz.
