I love credit cards so much!

DO IT! I get tremendous value out of my Amex personal Platinum. See my post in /r/DISchurners.
The mpx one right? What do you use your mr for? That’s my biggest hang up on this. I currently have an 8 month old as well as a 5 year old, so I’m in kind of an exotic travel lull. I’ve been using my ur through the portal for hotels for short weekend type trips. But I’m not really sure what is use the mr for

How'd you pull it? I have tried the tricks and can't get it to pop up. It has been a month though...maybe I will try again.
I used the misspelled name trick with the nickname version of my legal first name and my last name with a missing letter in the middle. Used my current address. Used a private browsing window in safari on my phone.

Also I’ve tried a lot of other times, tried cardmatcj with no luck, so give it another go.

wearing it loud and proud! :D

Love this!! It made me laugh so hard, DH came over to the computer because he had to see what I was laughing at!

To those who have rental car experience, hoping you can help me out with a little advice. We are flying out Friday evening with some friends and family to Vegas for a long weekend. We'd like to rent a car one day while we are there to head over to the Hoover Dam. We'll have 6 people, so I know we'll need something big enough for our entire group. I have absolutely no experience renting cars, as we've just never had the need for one. I'm trying to figure out the best way to utilize our cards to get the best value we can with this. I really need to get better about being more knowledgeable about our card benefits that we don't use, just in case the need arises. I haven't paid much attention to the car rental benefits for our cards and now I'm regretting that. I know our CSRs have status with National and Avis. Any others I should look into? I feel so lost on this one as we've never been to Vegas before either...LOL.

On a related note, we are also trying to decide on a mode of transportation from the airport to our hotel and back on departure day. My cousin was looking into a shuttle and asked me about Uber. I've used Uber several times when traveling to places near our home, but never outside of that. I am not familiar with Uber rates in Vegas at all. Has anyone here used an Uber in Vegas recently?

You can use the Uber website to estimate the cost for Ubers in LV. As for the rental car, the status with CSR and National is nice but we got significantly cheaper rates on the specific car we wanted (Chevy Tahoe type) going through UR. People also report getting great rates through Costco if you're a Costco member.

We rented a car in Anaheim last year (picked up at Downtown Disney). Best price was Costco. Beat any 'status' rates with CSR. This year I'm researching for Flagstaff AZ and have a few Citi TY points. Using those points brought up a deal for an SUV for the same price everyone else has an economy. Now DH can't decide if he wants to drive an SUV :sad2: FWIW our everyday cars are a Jeep and a Subaru Forester.

I just posted the following over in r/churning: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/7vmdqp/daily_discussion_thread_february_06_2018/dtuoum9/ I'm going to post it here too for everybody's benefit. It's some detail regarding Chase Shutdowns that have been reported thus far.

*********************************

I did this awhile back and figured I'd do another quick summary of the shutdown reports for those interested. Last time I provided VERY minimal details so this time I'm going to do a bullet point by user. FYI: It seems having a banking relationship with Chase has no bearing on whether you are shutdown AND whether you are reinstated so I didn't even include that detail as a bullet below. ALSO I didn't include any detail on MS activity as it had no bearing on these shutdown reports (that's not to say you can't be shutdown for MSing but it's not really related to the concern we're discussing here).

You can head to the Shutdown Reports Thread if you want to read these in detail but this just gives a picture of where these are coming from.

Also here are two great discussions on the Chase shutdowns and how you may want to adjust your approach to avoid it:

EDIT: If I missed any that weren't in the shutdown thread (I tried to look for others in the Daily Discussion but had minimal success) let me know and I can add to this post.
This freaks me out a bit. I've been considering a business card, either SPG or Marriott. I'm 13/24 with 5 Chase cards, so it makes me a bit paranoid. I figured a biz card would keep you under that radar but seems not.

If you are leaving Friday then doesn’t matter; usual advice is to check early and often. With 6 people regular mini van would work. Costco by far the best if it is an option. It is nice too because additional driver no cost. I like Alamo. My personal experience is they seem less anal about the whole thing.

Main advantage of CSR is that you don’t need any type of additional insurance. That is covered by the card. Just waive all of those charges and say not needed.

Hahaha, by the time he decides the price will have changed and then he'll really have a conundrum.

I'd tread lightly on a Marriott Biz... the SPG Biz might be the safer option.

Soooo, for those who have been following the Chase shutdown phenomenon closely, any recommendations on do’s and dont’s for meeting the minimum spend on my Marriott biz that I am waiting to arrive? I’m at 7/24, and will have 6 Chase cards once this one makes its way into my wallet. Are there particular charges I should avoid putting on this card?

Both DH and I have new Marriott Busn cards, and I need to figure out the same. Easy solutions are: car insurance premiums, home insurance premiums, life insurance premiums, and electric bill prepayment. I will probably buy a GOC card or two if I need more spend or possibly buy a gift card from my hair salon.

most of the recent shutdown scares are triggered by a new credit card apps. I wouldnt worry about it unless ur a heavy MSer. I dont think either of you are so you should be safe. GoC is borderline MSin but not really as well. Just dont go overboard with it, like charging 10k in a month. If you keep your spendings regular everything should play out fine... The only other Chase shutdowns ive seen is sell of UR points...

the lurkers who swear Dave Ramsey will read this board and drop dead of a stroke and any others who are concerned about their credit score ...

This cracks me up! My dh & I did the Dave Ramsey plan to get out of debt 12'ish years ago or so. I'm a BIG DR fan. My high schoolers get the "privilege" of using his high school curriculum as a personal finance class for high school :) BUT I completely disagree with him on the CC usage. You should hear me (and see my poor teens) as I pause the dvd every two seconds to disagree with him on using CC's. They know me and they know what we've been able to do with CC rewards but I see them roll their eyes as I, again, reach for the remote to pause so I can lecture for 20 mins on why I don't agree with him and how CC's aren't the great evil he makes them out to be. I think of all the CC points he is missing out on. He travels all over doing these seminars...

I was planning to go for the Marriott biz next but rethinking that now...that shutdown post from @SouthFayetteFan really has me freaked out! It seems like people are being shutdown more from the co-branded card apps. Is that accurate? Which is just what I'm after now.

i wouldnt worry too much. If you notice most are LOL/24. Those that arent it seems like are reinstated.
i am also not aware of your 5/24 status though...

I'm at 6/24 but will drop to 5/24 in April. I try not to push it too far since there are several more Chase cards I'd like. I don't MS at all and it's rare I put more than $1500-2000 on a card in a month. So, it doesn't seem like I'm high on the shutdown risk but I am wanting the marriott (biz and personal), Hyatt and Ihg...and it seems to be more of the co- branded cards triggering these shutdowns.

I always go through USAA and hertz for the best discount.

I was planning on the Marriott Biz too, I’m 4/24 but all those in the last 13 months. And I really want to get the CIP (in March) and double dip the CSP/ CSR (July), so maybe I should hold off on the Marriott Biz. I’m wondering if I should go for the Amex Hilton Biz instead.
