I love credit cards so much!

I need some input. I am sure I am over thinking this but I can’t help it!

...

Or maybe I just apply as generally as possible and if I get denied then don’t fight it?

You’re definitely overthinking it. Keep it simple, a sole proprietorship, that’s “you” so you shouldn’t need to provide any documentation to prove up your “business.” Use your name as your business name, and your SSN as the EIN or Tax ID number. Don’t get fancy with any other business form that actually may prompt Chase to ask for documentation. It really does seem like those of us who have actual legit businesses are the ones subjected to scrutiny.

I want a CIP now of my own (80k UR hello!) except I don’t know that I even have any “business.” No never sold on line, don’t get on eBay.

You mean 100k UR, because of course you’ll use DH’s referral; he’ll get 20k and you’ll get 80k UR.

My options as I see it are:
  • Do what I did to get the Amex Business and do it as travel planning. Except you start to look at the Chase categories and that is more than a little intimidating. I don’t know how to make it fit.
  • Apply as if DH did not already have a CIP for his business. My name is on the DBA license, the city license, and on a federal licensing form he was required to do. So if it came to documentation I actually could provide. If I did that though should I do the same business name as his or change it? I could do our last name instead I guess.
  • I am a government attorney (prosecutor). So not a business BUT in theory I could do private practice and be a sole practioner on my own. I am not going too, but I guess if Chase asked I could say I wanted the option?!? This option makes me worry a bit and realistically if they denied and wanted more information I probably would just say never mind.
Open to all ideas.

Most of us seem to have most success applying with an online sales “business.” You don’t necessarily have to have sold anything yet; even plans to start up a business counts. This could be the year you decide to start up your side business, but first you need a credit card to put all your planned spend for inventory, supplies, and such, and generally to keep your business expenses separate.

If you decide to start an online sales business, select "retail: books, hobbies, music, sports, general, non store retail" (or the other retail category) > "electronic shopping and mail-order" > "electronic shopping.” You’ll apply with an estimate or projection of your revenue.

Does Chase ever look at spending and see if it relates to the business? If I did get the CIP a big portion of the spending would be spent on travel of some sort so that might make the last 2 options seem weird.

Thanks.

Nope. Can you imagine the billions of transactions that Chase processes on its credit cards every day? There’s no way to monitor everything. Chase has boilerplate language that you should only put business expenses on business cards, but that’s really because business cards don’t have some of the consumer protections as on personal cards. Officially, let’s just say all the spend on your business card are for business purposes.

Any chatter on the CSR offer increasing? It seems upside-down that the CSP offer is now higher than the CSR.

It really does seem strange, at least from a marketing point of view, that the lower tier card (CSP) is being positioned with a higher 60k bonus. Of course, those extra 10k points come at the cost of a $95 AF (worth roughly 10k UR to the cardholder, but those points are probably worth a lot less than cash to Chase), which was waived for the first year previously.

I honestly don’t know if Chase will raise the signup bonus on the CSR. I know there’s a lot of discussion about a possible higher offer, and it’d kind of make sense to match the CSP at 60k. But when Chase disclosed the CSR’s numbers to its investors — 90%+ renewal rate, $39k average spend on the card — those aren’t numbers that suggest Chase needs any help selling the CSR even with a bonus at only 50k UR.

HEY...Don't you come in here with your facts and try to ruin my hopes for a higher signup on CSR...:rotfl2::rotfl:

I kind of figured this was the deal. It's a great card. I never, in a million-gazillion years, thought we'd keep this thing, but we are and I love it. I know Chase may not need to up the offer on it but right now, it looks bizarre that the lower-tier card has a higher offer. Whatever, Chase! 90% renewal rate? That surprises me!

We actually bought our three little girls, me, and the grandmas (who watched the girls) the wrap around sarong things that they sell. But Costco had them in all different patterns and colors for $8.99! As far as the other stuff I was actually struck how it was the same prices as our Utah Costco’s. I.e. I have been eyeing the fancy dresses for girls for Easter and they were the exact same price. The main difference was the alcohol section. We don’t have that in Utah...so shopping there and looking was our entertainment. :)
I used to live in Provo, a loooong time ago. I still remember that time as a very inebriated time in my life, it could have been my age but to this day I still blame it on the alcohol laws lol.

AMEX Everyday Card Comments

1) Somebody recently was talking about the AMEX Everyday card and it's 0% balance transfer fee and 0% APR for 15 months (I think it was @MinnieMay)...I ended up reading DoC's article on it tonight: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amex...-offer-10000-points-0-apy-15-months-0-bt-fee/ and it's a pretty sweet deal...especially if you can get the 25k MR point offer to show up incognito (the 25k point offer requires a spend of $2,000. For those not aware, this is basically accessing the AMEX site in an incognito google browser which MAY trigger higher offers than standard public offers. YMMV on actually getting this offer to appear. IF you CAN'T get the higher offer consider using a support link, which leads me to point 2...

2) I updated my link on DISchurners for this card - the "support" link does do the 15k MRs for $1,000 spend offer AND includes the 0% APR/ 0% bal xfer fee. I noticed that a number of people have non-working links for this card so you might want to check yours if you have one and update if necessary. Some people's were working though.
I was not aware of the 0% for 15 months, thank you.

I’m still waiting too. Check the mail daily. App’d And approved 3/1. I cringe every time I have to swipe a different card.
I guess I can quit checking everyday then since I was approved 3/4, I still have a ways to go. Does this come through the post office? Looks like it will be delivered while we are in WDW. Hate to see it sitting on the front porch for a week.

Bummer. Had the Turbo Tax offer on my Amex card, and in the previous years, it was a credit after paying. I hadn't had the credit post so I contacted Amex and this year, it's just a discount :( So, you have to click through their link but the discount is the same as pretty much everyone else. I paid $50 to file with TT this year. When I started with them about 10 years ago, it cost like $15. It's gradually gone up but this year is kind of ridiculous. Even though it's gonna be a hassle to move all my info, I think I am finally bailing on TT.
I love our tax professional, I have used her for a long time but at $450 for 2016 this may be my last. Thanks for opening up my eyes.

I think the speculation is that the retention numbers may not factor in cancellations and product changes after early adopters double or triple dipped the travel credit that would’ve reset Dec 2017. Even so, I have to think the churning community, who are hip to this kind of strategizing, is only a small part of the CSR’s customer base and Chase isn’t going to see the kind of mass cancellation that we’d expect to see in the churning world. And then there’s what you said, lots of people signed up for the CSR for the bonus, but it’s actually a really good card that a lot of people end up deciding to keep.

I feel badly complaining about $50 when you paid $450! I know that $50 isn't a lot. I remember when dh & I were first married and I carted our paperwork down to H&R Block to have the taxes done, it was almost $100. It just used to be so much less through Turbo Tax!

after seen the published numbers of CSR... i dont think they need anymore CSR cardholders... haha.

edit: damn, @Lain beat me to it.

I read that the Disney premier visa has 0% financing on Disney trips, but what about adding on Dining plan to a DVC ressie? Just wondering because I may have to pay it off in 3 payments, so will there be interest?

The 0% is for select vacation packages. DPs suggest the answer is no through DVC.

Qualifying Disney vacation packages include:
Walt Disney World® Resort vacation packages
Disney vacation packages associated with an eight-digit reservation number purchased prior to the commencement of the vacation through the Walt Disney Travel Company, Disney Cruise Line,AAA Vacations or online at DisneyWorld.com.

I was also surprised at the number of people keeping the card. I though for sure my mom would cancel or PC hers but she also decided to keep it over the CSP.

You can sign up for USAA! As long as you’re a US citizen, I think you qualify. I signed my sons up. They also waive the under 25 yo surcharge fo4 car rentals.
Where is this sign up we have been trying to get my dad signed up but he doesn’t qualify through my brother who’s active duty or my dh who’s a veteran

No I asked before and then tried it on one night just to confirm. Didn’t work it had to be a package or cruise package to qualify or Dvc purchase of points for 0% for 6 mo

Just realized that you have been over 5/24 for too long to have the CSR!! Is that first card for your dw?
It's on our strategy to double dip CSP/CSR after hitting CIP first. Somewhere between June and October...although I could be persuaded to do the double dip first if the bonus increased...

Oh duh, yep, I remember now...CIP first!

ETA: I forgot how long they had been out of the Chase game.

There's a reason I've earned 19 AMEX bonuses in the past 20 months ;) We did each get a Chase Disney though during that time and I got a Chase Marriott Biz, haha! Also have shown some love for Citi, Barclays, TD Bank & Wells Fargo. I needed a lot of distractions to last this long.
