also, what you guys think of Marriott's 75k deal? Im tempted...

My husband got a 100K point deal last year, so I would wait to see if it gets higher. There is a referral bonus for 80K now, so if you want to apply now, get someone to refer you (PM me if you need one) for 80K points instead of the 75.

I’m sure @Albort is aware of the previous 100k Marriott points offer and the current 80k public offer. What makes the 75k points deal tempting is the annual fee of $85 is waived for the first year. So I guess the questions are whether the 5k (or possibly 25k if the offer ever goes back up to 100k) points difference is worth $85 to you, and are there any other card you’d rather use a 5/24 slot on?

Definitely seems like $85 > 5k Marriott points for me.

One timing question with Marriott cards about the free night. Say you have it two years then cancel (to hopefully sign up again). You get two free night certificates, not one, correct? And you can still use the certificate even if you cancel your card?

I would probably use the night before canceling the card. Not sure about the actual rule though.

hmm... SPG just credit me 8 stays and 20 nights... im 1 stay away from gold, 5 nights until gold...
I'm one of the lucky people who got 10 stays and 25 nights...there's some discussion on Reddit on this whole weird mistake/issue/gift whatever it is haha. Hopefully they don't claw them back, I'm gonna enjoy my free gold status, lol.

First off @lovewdwfun - please no soliciting for referrals on the boards. That could get us in trouble - plus if you're a regular here I'm sure you know we already have a group established where we can support each other that way.

Here's how I see the offers:
  • NEW OFFER = 78,000 Points + No Annual Fee (75k + 3k for spend)
  • REFERRAL OFFER = 90,500 Points + $85 Annual Fee (80k + 3k for spend + 7.5k for AU)
The additional 12,500 points should be worth at least the $85 (and possibly more). SOOOO This really comes down to do you want more points or is saving the $85 now really important to you. I'd take the points but I'm sure others would prefer to not pay the fee...

Also once the free night is deposited into your marriott account you can cancel the card. I've done it 3 times - you don't lose the free night, it's still good for 12 months and doesn't get taken away.

I got that too, that's weird.

DH has lifetime gold status through some kind of glitch, so I'm just gonna keep quiet, and enjoy it while it lasts!

CIP is a great card. I’ve gotten lots of UR for things I already paid with a cc before but now get 3x the amount. As for your rent use plastiq and do a small amount First Incase it charges as cash advance. Then after the first payment you can do any amount since it will be in the system.

@WVMomof3, @3 DD love princesses makes a great point. This is because you and Plastiq may not have a prior established relationship with the payee. (You've never paid this recipient before, and this recipient is not in Plastiq's database.)

Plastiq has a tendency to code the first payment to a new recipient as a cash advance. You don't want this to happen because cash advances don't count towards your minimum spend and carry fees. Before you make any payments on Plastiq, you should send a secure message to Chase asking they reduce your cash advance limit to the minimum amount allowed (I believe it's $20 on the CIP, but you could try ask for $0). This way, if Plastiq or any other transaction does code as a cash advance, you're not hit too hard.

You can establish a relationship with a new recipient by making a small payment using another card like an Amex, which doesn't code payments to a new recipient as a cash advance. You can send for example $20 to your DD's landlord, thereby establishing a relationship; then switch to the CIP for the balance of the payment.

DISchurners Survey#2 Results
Hopefully everybody enjoyed filling out this survey. The goal was obviously to see what the most popular cards are around here as well as educate people on a bunch of cards they might not have known about. We had 84 people respond - thanks to you all for taking the time!!

And now to the results:

TOP CARD (HAVE OR HAD):
#1 = 77.4% have/had a Disney Rewards (no annual fee)
#2 = 63.1% have/had a Sapphire Preferred (CSP) 63.1%
#3 = 60.7% have/had a Freedom 60.7%
TIED at #4 are three cards:
#4t = 59.5% have/had a Sapphire Reserve (CSR)
#4t = 59.5% have/had a Southwest Personal PLUS
#4t = 59.5% have/had a Southwest Personal PREMIER

57.1% of people responding have a Discover card. Then Freedom Unlimited and CIP are next so excluding Discover the top 8 cards are all from Chase! The Starwood Personal SPG card is the first card other than Chase or Discover to appear and that is in the 10th spot at 31%. You have to go all the way down to spot 16 to find the Arrival Plus from Barclays for a card that isn’t Chase or Amex (or Discover).

TOP CARD CURRENTLY OPEN:
52 people (62%) currently have a Disney Rewards card open (no surprise since there’s no annual fee)
48 people (57%) currently have a Freedom card open (again no annual fee)
43 people (51%) currently have a Chase Sapphire Reserve CSR open (probably a combination of people that like its benefits with a bunch of people who have been at the game less than a year).

TOP CARD ISSUER:
This statement is flawed as we didn’t ask who had multiples of cards and such but here’s a quick look at the reported cards by issuer:
Chase = 504; AMEX = 181; Citi = 64; Discover = 48; Barclay = 41; BofA = 38; Capital1 = 31; US Bank = 7; Wells Fargo = 5; and TD Bank = 1

RAW DATA:
If you want to see for yourself, draw some conclusions, etc…. have at it:

Just wanted to share my experience when I Sm'd chase to ask they lower my cash advance to zero for the CIP. This was the message I received: "We are unable to change the cash advance limit to $0.00 as, the minimum cash line permitted on the account is $100.00."
I did lower it to $100, and I sent a small payment with a mastercard first to establish a relationship after reading @Lain 's advice. I wasn't taking any chances, lol. All worked out and my mortgage payment coded 3x.

I think this is why I never looked further into Plastiq. Seems complicated! Her landlord is clearly not doing this as a main living, sometimes going a long time before cashing checks. I can't imagine what he would do with a partial payment, lol. I only have Chase cards, so would this be a problem?

So you just close the account and reapply again...?...Interesting...
Yes, I closed it this past Dec after the travel credit posted and I used it.

I’ll reapply again at some point. Dec 2018 will be 24 mos after bonus posted so has to be at least that far out. If I want to double dip with CSP, I have to wait even longer cause my CSP bonus posted in Mar 2017.

How long does it typically take for Chase to answer SM? I SM to move some of my credit around. Will they do this through SM or should I call?

I did it through SM. I think it took a few hours? I Sm'd later in the day and they replied back sometime in the middle of the night.

Ok, I am missing why people are getting SPG stays added. Just random? I looked at my account, don't see anything.
The Stays and Nights credits come with the SPG cards. You're supposed to get 2 Stays and 5 Nights on each card.

I had the following credited:
1/24: 2 stays, 5 nights
1/23: 4 stays, 10 nights
1/9: 4 stays 10 nights
TOTAL 10 stays, 25 nights & gold status

My wife had this credited:
1/24: 2 stays, 5 nights
1/9: 2 stays, 5 nights
TOTAL 4 stays, 10 nights

I have both the SPG personal and SPG Biz. She has just the SPG Biz. I can't really figure out any rhyme or reason to what happened here but I guess I'll take it, LOL!

Hope you get to enjoy that! I ended up with 2 stays credited and 5 nights credited. I've never even stayed at an SPG property, actually just activated my online account today...

Thanks - just wish it was my account with the lifetime gold status lol. He doesn't even have a SPG card (closed years ago) and might stay at one of their hotels maybe 1 night a year (that gold status is wasted, I tell ya)! I have both the personal SPG and was approved for the business SPG (still haven't received it though). Maybe I'll have to try to earn my own gold status - ha!

Can't you get 7,500 points for an AU with the 75K plus no annual fee offer?

I do not see that mentioned anywhere in the offer terms. If it's not a part of the offer (which it doesn't appear to be) You could potentially try to SM for it but YMMV on whether they'll do it or not.

I have SPG personal and Biz, and it looks like from mine they credited the nights/stays for the card on the 8th and 9th, and then they did it again on the 23rd and 24th...
So I'm at 8 stays/20 nights. Have 5 nights at the Dolphin starting tomorrow... so that puts me at Gold. How long does that last? :)
