I love credit cards so much!

DISchurners courtesy reminder:

If you've posted your credit card links in our threads they may expire or cease to work. I'd advise everybody to take a few minutes and head over there and click every link that you have and make sure they still work and that the offer is still accurate. You'd hate to lose if somebody clicks your link and gets a dreaded error message! I specifically mention this as all the Hilton links appear to have stopped working but obviously it's good practice to check all links every few months.

Thanks all!!

Just calculated my spend on my CSR/CSP double dip. I thought it would be tough to spend $8k in 3 months, and we are only 6 weeks into it and I already met the spend on CSR (actually $200 over) and am shy $400 on my CSP. Yikes! I am not sure if this hobby making us spend more than usual or just making us more aware of our spending. Feel like I should go ahead and sign up for the next card (debating the SPG business or the CIP) but I think this time $5000 might be too much this soon. We did have 2 big bills last cycle we will not have again for awhile, tuition and car insurance. I do have 4 months left of rent to pay for DD, maybe I should figure out the plastiq thing.

You have to be careful with this. One time i got CSR and capital one venture same day and had 7K to spend in 3 months. Well
i did it without struggling and it made me think what the heck? Where did that money go? lol. Now it was around Christmas but
still. I'm back to documenting where every cent in the household is going and it has been an eye opener. Now any spend i'm running
out of time goes to paying AHEAD utilties. I'm lucky where i live i can pay electricity gas internet phone water etc at months ahead of
schedule.

You might be able to put your insurance on a credit card! And if it makes sense to make the spend, you can put your taxes on a credit card too!
That's my plan! I was pretty sure we'd owe between $1k-$2k unfortunately, but it made me more confident in going for the SPG biz. I made sure I had enough other things to hit the spending too, just in case we wouldn't owe for some reason.

Applied for Altitude Reserve under a pre-qualified offer yesterday. Went 7-10 days, got a call from US Bank fraud dept today verifying I applied for the card and some other verification type questions. They said they'll send the application on to underwriting and I should hear back by the end of the business day. They mentioned at the end of the phone call they saw if was a pre-approved offer so hopefully everything does indeed go well. Fingers crossed! I'm getting very excited to lay out some travel for this year and would love to put together enough to take my family back to the Beach Club for F&W (secret travel goal, I don't want anyone's hopes up at home until I know I can do it) we'll see!!

Ok guys, I need some advice - or maybe talked down from a ledge.

I'm seriously considering the Spirit card. Help me.

Here's why: Aerosmith (favorite band) is playing a headline spot at New Orleans Jazz Fest in May. I want to go. Flights from my part of the world are astronomical. I'm not paying $800 oop for 2 RTs and I'm not spending 90k Delta miles each way, either.

I've never flown Spirit but I was studying their award chart. It's only 2,500 miles each way in zone 1, which is what I am... you can get their credit card with 15k miles after first purchase. It's BOA, so a different issuer than most of us use here. On the signup, I'd get enough points for me and hubby to fly to see Aerosmith over the weekend.

I presented this idea to him and he didn't flip out. He actually said, "You gotta grab deals when you can. Who cares, it's a 2 hour flight."

I would pack a tiny bag and shove under the seat. We're literally talking about 2 nights here.

Am I losing my mind? The other option is to drive and it's 13 hours. We'll do that if necessary I guess.

Well let’s put this into context. I HATE Spirit and will avoid that airline like the plague. BUT, if that was the most reasonable option to see Hamilton in Puerto Rico next year with Lin Manuel on stage ... I would be all over that credit card and looking forward to my uncomfortable flight on Spirit and moan about having to slum it but it would be worth it!

I started our taxes yesterday. I thought we'd owe some, and it's looking like around $1800 right now. So between that and my car registration, and my 6 month insurance premium... Goodbye SPG Biz spending

Planning to do the same thing! I think I'll owe about $1000 and plan to apply for CIP for DH next month and use that (hopefully, if approved!).

are you sure thats your only option? Have you check the UR portal? maybe BA?
Honestly, if your not chasing chase cards, then there is no point on staying under 5/24. Apply whatever you like!

DPs on the Chase Pay Best Buy offer. My bonus points for the 10x offer credited immediately for the Freedom and Freedom Unlimited. My CSR was showing only 1x, so I SM'd Chase and received the reply others are receiving: that I am entitled to the bonus points and that they will be credited to my account within 1 to 2 billing cycles.

No it doesn't sadly.
I figured, but thought I'd ask.

I may be adding up what the minimum spends would be and how many points we'd get for the SPG/Marriott cards we don't have, and I have you to thank for that :)

We could still each get a Marriott biz, and he could get SPG biz and Marriott Personal. For that I'm getting $14k in spend for 37.5k Starpoints and 276.5k Marriott points with the current offers, including points from spending, AUs, and referral bonuses...

I'll be sure to blame you when I present this to DH.

I'll have to look at my options... like @wendow I'm feeling FOMO on the Marriott/SPG cards :) I don't even have a plan for them... I'm so new to this there's a lot I haven't done, like my only AMEXs are SPG cards. I'll have to investigate the Hilton card. I'm struggling with my SPG points too (using them)... like I was looking at San Diego hotels the other day, and I'd look at one that is 10k SPG points... and think, but that's a night at the Dolphin... :rotfl:
Our plan is stay at the Hilton Hawaii Village for 3 night, we need 2 Hilton biz cards.

Trying to think aloud on a strategy for DH. He is 3/24 and has the CF, both SW personal, and SW Biz as far as Chase cards. Original plan was to get either the CIP or Amex SPG biz to keep him under 5/24 until I'm ready to double dip the CSP/CSR for him. However, if I get the CIP next, this means the chances of being approved for a third Chase Biz card would be difficult and put Marriott Biz out of the question. While I could wait and close the SW Biz, who knows if the Marriott Biz will be around that long. Also wanted to wait until June/July when his anniversary points post before I cancel. So effectively, it seems I have to decide CIP/Marriott Biz with the possibility that Marriott Biz goes away. Secondly, want to also get the CSR now so he can get pre-check for our trip to CA in June, but then with the double dip, that means he's definitely out of luck for the CIP, but Marriott Biz would still be ok and we would have to wait until he's below 5/24 (which wont be until next June) again before we can go for the CIP.

Decisions, decisions...:confused3

Did you buy something or buy gift cards?

Woah - I accept no blame. I will take the credit though ;) 270k+ Marriott points is a sweet haul!

I will be looking for some data points from you about this card. I have been eyeing it for late 2019.
Plus i want to see how you like it ..customer service etc.:)

You've really laid it all out well. I started to type a response 3 times...and then re-thought things. So I understand your conundrum...I just keep coming back to the fact that the CIP points are worth so much more than the Marriott points...I'd probably go CIP, then do the double dip (which could still get you precheck before June), then hope Marriott is still around. BUT if you do something different it wouldn't be a bad decision in my book either. Good Luck!!

For the CIP, make sure you are 30 day past your last Chase application(s) due to Chase's 0/30 rule for approval of business credit cards.

If you plan to meet a minimum spending requirement by paying your DD's rent using Plastiq, I'd suggest going for the CIP over the SPG Biz.
  • The CIP has a 80k UR signup bonus after spending $5,000/3 months. The SPG Biz currently has a 25k SPG signup bonus after spending $5,000/3 months.
  • Using the CIP for payments through Plastiq still earns 3x UR. The SPG Biz codes as only 1x SPG.
  • Plastiq charges a 2.5% transaction fee for payments using credit cards. Earning 3x UR back on the principal amount plus fee on the CIP negates the transaction fee and even makes Plastiq a small moneymaker. Transfer the UR points you earn on the CIP to your CSR, and they're worth 50% more when redeemed for travel through the Chase portal.
  • Since the SPG Biz earns only 1x SPG, whether Plastiq is worth it depends how much you value the SPG points you'll get from the signup bonus and spend vs. the 2.5% fee.
  • Residential rent payments through Plastiq are okay on the CIP (Visa) and SPG Biz (Amex); but both Visa and Amex don't allow Plastiq payments for mortgages and have been cracking down on holes that still let mortgage payments through.
  • Before you sign up for Plastiq, you may want to find out if your DD's landlord, property manager, or property management company accepts credit card payments (like through some community website or payment portal). You may luck out if they accept credit cards for a flat fee.
  • If you plan to sign up for Plastiq, you may want to do so through a referral link because it'll give you $500 "fee free dollars" after you spend $500. This means after you spend your first $500, Plastiq will waive the 2.5% fee on the next $500 in payments ($12.50).
P.S. @SouthFayetteFan, I know several members here use Plastiq so maybe we can create a DISchurners post where people can put up their Plastiq links.
