If I even attempted to explain to a normal person (i.e. non-SW expert) what I just did they'd think I'm crazy...

• Booked a dummy flight for Daughter 1 to combine $10.83 LUV voucher) and $33 flight credit (+ small CC payment)
• Changed the dummy flight for Daughter 1 to combine that flight ($45) with $47 flight credit (+ small CC payment)
• Cancelled current points flight and got $5.60 as a travel credit
• Changed the dummy flight again for Daughter 1 to our desired flight combined with $5.60 travel credit (+ final CC payment)
• Then I repeated these steps for Daughter 2 (except I didn't have to do the first step since no LUV voucher)
• Then I repeated these steps for me (with the added complication of cancelling and rebooking the companion fare for my wife)
• So yes...I just booked, changed, and cancelled flights 12 times I believe in the matter of 20 minutes and now have 7 pending charges on my CC from SW for amounts from $1.15 to $21.97...

BUT for doing all of this I save my 21,918 SW points and will earn 1,686 SW points from flying for paying $77.28 cash out of my pocket.

My one mistake...I put the charges on my SW CC instead of my CSR. So I'll earn 154 SW RRs vs. 231 URs. I guess I'll just have to get over wasting $1.19 on that move LOL!!!

Seriously this was exhausting just reading it! No way it would have taken me 20 min to do.

Haha, yeah, one of our friends is Japanese and that's what she said. We're from Virginia and are experienced with 90% humidity though, so it sounds like it will probably just be standard weather for us. Plus, we're going for the Olympics which is a life dream of mine, so I don't really have an option on when to go haha.

I assume you will do more research than my friends did. They had gone to LA Olympics and Atlanta Olympics because they happened to be living in both areas at the time. They were able to just buy last minute tickets to events. They didn't really care what they saw. Flash Forward to Olympics in London. They just assumed they could do the same thing. But apparently you cannot just buy tickets there unless you are from the host country. Otherwise you had to buy tickets in advance, from your own country. They stood in line several hours to figure that out. They ended up just seeing the Marathon because that was run around the city and no tickets needed. So I guess they can still say they went to the London Olympics, but they were disappointed. Planning is definitely not their forte.

When are people seeing anniversary RR credits? Are they sometimes coming way after annual fee posts? My one year on both my premier and plus is this month and I’m cancelling both. I’m in MA so I’m thinking it’s better to wait to see the points even if it takes a while then get it prorated?

We may be the odd DP. The AF on the Plus posted just a few days before we got the RR anniversary points. The Premier on the other hand was odd. AF posted and no RR posts until the following the month. We got a retention offer on the Premier, so it wasn't an issue.

Speaking of Chase, can someone remind me if they pro-rate AFs if you close the account after 30 days from the AF posting?

I've been looking at flight options for getting our family to Tokyo. Looks like ANA is the best and if we went in regular season, it would be 50k points each. Reading I can transfer SPG or Amex MR 1:1. Would this be the same for Marriott points, or is this different now? Would I still get the transfer 20k, get bonus 5k?

They say they don't pro-rate but they did in the case of my CSR. I closed it 3 mos after the AF posted (wanted one more travel credit) and I got back 3/4 of the AF.

Thanks for popping in! We missed some the first time around, I think they pulled them when they realized they were popping up on personal cards too - since I see that's fixed now - and I was hoping they'd open it up again once they fixed it. Managed to get all of them onto some card now this time, have to have hubby check on his as he missed them all that day.

On some more AmEx Offers good news front, I was just credited for an online charge I made on the expiration date but it wasn't charged until later after it shipped. This time it was Macy's, I had two $$ off offers and a 2x MR points offer that stacked on one card but also all expired on the same day. I really pushed the limit on this one but I figured I could sweet talk a chat rep or something into giving me the offers since I got all the emails and the pending charge was dated on the last day. All 3 of the offers credited today!

I don't think I'm going to fare so well with Chase. I put in another Macy's order same day on the Freedom card for the 5x back on Department Stores + going through the Chase portal. But I was cheap and split the order to use a Macy's coupon multiple times so I had to have it shipped to store to avoid the shipping fee. Order still hasn't shown up in store so no charge put through to Chase yet. I think I'll get my shopping portal points but not the stack with the CF category Eh, win some, lose some.

Since SPG is now Marriott, it's transfer 60K marriott points, get 15K extra marriott points which ends up being 25,000 miles when you divide by 3* (they kept the conversion factor of SPG=3xMarriott for this).

*except for some reason United is more 27,000 miles and El Al I believe is less (that is not committed to memory)

I just got into a rhythm and plugged away. The hardest past was finding flights for specific prices. Side Note: If you're ever looking for a cheap flight to use to combine credits, LAS => LAX is my go to route. Usually can find some $45 flights on there lol!

This may be based on when your actual anniversary falls in the billing cycle. My points posted the month after my anniversary - I think this is because my card open date was 12/21 (according to the Credit Journey) but my billing cycle ending on 12/11. So my anniversary points posted when my statement closed in January. Hubby's card was opened beginning of Dec but his statement cycle ends on the 26th of each month, so he got his points 12/27 this year and AF posted 1/1.
