I love credit cards so much!

So Dh and I just went to staples to try and use the 10% back on Airbnb gift cards. Found out they only have them online. Luckily we didn’t have to drive very far to get there. Since the offer is available until 6/30/19 do we need to rush and get them or can we wait?

We have some strategies on how to hit a larger MSR (minimum spend requirement) without spending wastefully. Since you pay off each month you’re playing the game right. If you happen to have some extra cash or a nice sized emergency fund, ideas to hit a larger MSR include
  • Purchase visa gift cards near the end of the 3 months then use them for regular expenses after your MSR period is over.
The largest typical MSR you’ll see is $5,000 in 3 months and most are in the $1k-$4k range.

As far as this any particular type of Visa? Any precautions when buying these? Use asap, register...?

tagging everyone I remember discussing the Marriott Platinum benefit with me, but I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, sorry! - @Alexle2007 @WVMomof3 @jhoannam

a user on r/churning called and reported back that it's a website glitch and we have until Jan 14 to select an option. Like everything take it with a grain of salt since it's a Marriott call center rep, but I think I will give it a couple days to straighten out before calling in. They also confirmed that the 5 elite night credits would retroactively go to 2018 :( There goes that plan. That's only useful if you needed it to hit 75 nights or another status level because they don't count toward Lifetime nights either.

Here's the comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/absgal/daily_discussion_thread_january_02_2019/ed3889f/
So if we do the suite nights instead, will we get to use them in 2019?

So, deciding if now is good for me to try again for my SW personal. You all know my story LOL, lord knows I complained enough here. Got biz, two week later applied for personal. Got 30 day message, 2 1/2 weeks later, I was denied for too many open accounts/too much available credit (not for 5/24, I am 4/24). So I lowered some CL's and I closed a $30k line card and took myself off of DH's AMEX, which was $25k. I can see both of these and most of the lowered lines on Chase Credit Journey. I do not see the AMEX that I lowered from $16500 to $7500 though on Credit Journey.
Credit Karma doesn't show me removed from DH's Amex, still shows open, nor does it show all my decreases on Chase (the AMEX and Chase both show last updated dates in November.
Do you think I am good to try again now? With using the $16500 that Chase Credit Journey is still showing, my total limits have gone from $128900 to $61000 (not including the $5k limit on my SW Biz)
Did you follow all that?

Thinking I might skip Chase for now for DH and go Barclays, he could use the big credit towards his trip to Germany to see his brother. We will both have 2 cards drop off the 24 months in March. I closed our Barclays last Jan 2nd, should he be ok to try there again?

Ok, I'm really having a decent day!

My Marriott points posted!

All 60,000 of them!

I had the 40K and 10K for upgrading to the Premier card.

And I had the 4K and 6K for the SPG personal promotion from last September that I met in October and have been waiting ever so patiently for! yay me!
Mine posted too! (And I haven’t been charged an AF yet.) DH’s 1 year is on 1/25 so I am hoping he gets the 50k upgrade offer also.

How much Credit has Chase extended to you including business cards....and what % is that of house income....
From what I’ve read they seem to limit it to around 50%...or somewhere around $60-70k...

I was only at 38% with Chase, when they denied me. Now I am at 19% with Chase.

I purchase $200 ones from my grocery store because I can earn fuel perks on them worth an additional 6% or 12% back (depending on which promo they're running). I have had some that we took a few months to use and never had a fraud issue with them. I do register them online and check balances frequently.

We ended up using a TON of VGCs while trying to get my wife under 5/24. Since I was applying for all the cards but she does most of the shopping. I would buy a VGC and then she'd put our expenses on it and we could use those purchases towards our MSR without ordering her an AU card (and thus messing up her 5/24 status).

When the whole Double Dip scare came up back in Sept (when I was worried Chase would close our CSP and deny us the bonus) we went and bought thousands in VGCs and used them over the next 3 months with no issue. My experience is purely anecdotal but I've never had problems with them.

I'm not about to weigh in on this :P Your last experience baffled me...you broke the mold... Good luck if you try again though, I hope that whatever craziness latched on to your last app is nowhere to be found this time :)

So - if my dues are say $85/month and I have a $30 gift card. If I call and pay $30 they will only deduct $55 for my next payment? Or do I need a full $85 in gift cards and just "erase" that month's payment?

@trenty - I can't double check my work, but I have 4 contracts. I went contract by contract paying them, and I used 15 gift cards. On some if I had a $50 gift card and the remaining balance was 35.78, I entered 35.78 and it deducted that from the card and my owed amount went to zero.

As I paid off each contract the amount I owed for the month was reduced until it was totally eliminated.

I've never called for any payment, so I can't say what they would tell you.

Go to 'dues' on your dashboard and select pay dues and just read what it says. That's basically what I did and I didn't put much thought into it, so don't actually remember it all, just that I could have stopped entering cards at any time during the process and that would have left a remaining balance.

So I am on my way to Staples. Have 6 30% Chase offers plus my Amex. Would like to use them all today, Staples is not very close to us. Is there a best way to do this? Or do we just need to make 7 different purchases? Have never been to a Staples. Would like to buy all GCs, but will have DH with me so I’m sure he will find something to waste money on.

This run didnt go very well. It almost did, till the last transaction. Decided to do 3 transactions of $125 and split payment. First 2 went great. Last one she messed up and accidently hit cash. Had to wait for a manager, he didn’t know what to do so they shut down register and moved us to a new one. She had been handing me the cards and I put them all in my purse so then we had to figure out which ones needed rung up again. Go through process again and she split payment but then register didn’t take my card. She backed it up and told me to try again but we didn’t notice she backed out of split payment. Ughhh so $125 all went on one card. By this time there was a long line behind us and nothing she could do anyway because you can’t return gift cards. Hopefully the $19 credits on all cards. I think I may give up on the last one and the 10% too. We will see. Have awhile for the Amex deal.

@trenty I paid all of my dues on one contract and then only had $5.66 left on my giftcard. I went to pay my other contract dues and as a test I used the $5.66 remaining on the gc successfully. I did it online. It decreased the amount of my payment that's scheduled to be drafted in January by that amount.

Omg that is a lot of VGC's. But very helpful for down the road.

I just didn't know if I would be watched buying these type of GC's vs say restaurant ones. Sounds like all will be well . I'll just be sure to maybe stick with the same "brand" basically and register them. Thanks

Very helpful for me too—thanks :)

After I hit reply I realized you are already gone to staples. I just handed the cards and told him I was doing each on a different card. No prob.

Been on MDE all morning trying to check FD'ing for Aug. Cannot get anything but the Stitch page to save my life :(
I saw it this a.m.- and browsed over in a casual manner to see if I should book some random trip for early fall..... but obviously my caffeine hadn't kicked in yet b/c I didn't think about being quick....when I started playing around with dates etc I lost the page and got Stitch after that- I never learn to appreciate stuff when I get it obviously! oh well

Wow - strange scenario indeed. I hesitate to give advice on this one... lol.

...I just stared at my screen for like 15 minutes thinking...what would I do here...and then I'd start typing...and then say, no don't weigh in on this...and then start typing again. That one isn't an easy scenario. LOL!

I'll attempt to give some thoughts:
- He could probably keep both open, just meet MSR on one, then the other, see if he gets both points
- Chase could cancel one of the accounts eventually since he applied for both on the same day - the modified double dip is a strategy to apply on two DIFFERENT days so he is probably asking for one to get cancelled.
- He could proactively cancel one now to avoid hassles

Good luck with whatever he does there!
Yeah....no one anywhere seems to know how to advise on this one..... I advised just that actually. I told her to just have him use the one,and if she thinks he can't handle both, then cancel the other before the AF is due in a few weeks. weird scenario

Sorry, I don't have any good advice, but hope you get an approval this time!
