I love credit cards so much!

I need to catch up on this afternoon's posts but wanted to make sure I'm giving good advice to my mom/stepdad. They want to try for the SW CP for 2019-2020 and I want to make sure I have my facts straight! I think he should do the following, please let me know if I'm missing anything!

Apply for SW Biz for 60k points with $3k MSR, $99 fee (no support links for this, correct)?

Apply for SW Plus with in-flight offer using the link (is this still working? Does anyone have the link handy? I'd be very grateful.) This is for 50k points with $3k or $2k spend?
If the in-flight offer isn't available, I could refer him to either the Plus or Premier for 40k points and then he'd need to earn additional points to qualify for the CP.

Is there a recommended time he should wait to apply for the personal card after the biz card? I'm not sure of his 5/24 status so I definitely think he should go for the biz first.

On both cards he should make sure not to get close to meeting the spend until after his Dec stmt closes, or even safer until Jan. Anything I'm forgetting or missing? Thank you!
Looks like you’ve have everything laid out correctly...

Yes, this should work for travel credit. At least last time I bought from them over a year ago it did.

Has anyone ordered from their Amazon device? I am trying to use the promo code for $10 off a reorder but when I told Alexa to order it she just put it in my Cart and I still had to go on amazon to complete the order. So I am wondering if I did it right and if I did it right, what is the point of telling Alexa to order if I still have to go order it on my computer?

Sorry I’ve been super busy lately and I wanted to post our story but didn’t have time. It’ll probably be rather short but I’ll try my best!

Dh and I started this hobby just this year in April/May when we decided we wanted to go to Japan but couldn’t afford an adventure by Disney trip. We started with two CIP cards, one of us applied first (can’t remember which one) then when that person was close to the MSR they referred the other. Dh then got the CSR because he gets a higher credit limit lol. After the CSR we both got Hilton cards at the same time: me the business and Dh the Hilton honors cc. We are just now about to finish up the MSRs on those so Dh went ahead and applied for the southwest business cc. Those actually just came in the mail today so we can start to get our spend on them! I’m listed as an employee so it’ll be nice that we both have cards linked to the same account and working towards the same MSR.

Phew that was longer than I thought it would be. So in about 8 months we’ve gotten 6 cards? Quite a few were business so I think I’m right in saying they don’t apply towards our 5/24 rule.

So far we have paid for RT flights to Japan out of LAX in business class seats, 5 nights at an apartment hotel in Kyoto, a 1 night stay in Hakone, and a 1 night stay in LAX on each end of our trip since we have to fly in/out of there. After getting our Hilton and southwest bonuses we will have our 6 night stay at the Hilton in Tokyo mostly paid for and will have plane tickets to get to/from LAX. Then we will just have to pay for our Airbnb and we’ve been using discover cashback to slowly collect Airbnb gift cards.

Everyone on this thread has been absolutely amazing and there have been so many tips and tricks that I NEVER would’ve known without all of you. I still get a thrill telling people how we are going to Japan mostly on points earned and they just can’t believe me. We likely will just be in the game for this trip and won’t go much further than we are now with cards but who knows!

I'm not entirely sure what's the point :) I haven't quite got the hang of Alexa yet, I'm obviously not using her and her compatriots correctly because it takes me longer to do anything with them than I can do without them. But I think for it to order by itself the 1 Click Ordering should be set up.

I'm going to book a rental car through Chase URs... any bad experiences out there? It's a good deal at Thrifty... anything I should be worried about? Should I pay all of it with UR points or part of it with CSP or CIP?

I am behind so this may have been addressed...
We have used UR for rental cars multiple times and have never had a major problem. I do put a tiny bit of it on my CSR because I thought I read that was a good way to ensure that you would receive travel insurance coverage if you needed it, but I honestly couldn't tell you myself if that is actually true or not. Might not make a different with the CSP or CIP anyway though.

I WILL say though, that we had to return a car a day early because we left VA early to fly west before the most recent hurricane hit. When we returned the car they told me the amount for the day we did not use it for would be refunded since it was a weather issue. I then followed up with Chase and they told me it would take a while but the points would be refunded. Most recently, we have received a message on our phone from someone from the rental agency telling us that they cannot refund it and we need to go through Priceline (rental period was just before they switched over to Expedia), Honestly, it was only the one day's worth of rental so not a lot of points - I just haven't had time to follow it up and quite frankly probably won't.

But it is just something to keep in mind - getting a refund if you need to return it early might be a bit more difficult than normal if it is rented using UR. Would this stop me from using UR to rent a car again? Absolutely not, but just thought it was worth mentioning since you asked.

It looks like there is one that brings it down $60/month through December. Hopefully they do another one next year. I guess I need to ask Costco if they will take it and if not try target/cvs and pay with a target gift card.

Ha - just posted that idea before reading your comment. I need some Target gc's myself!

Can you do a Target gift card at the CVS now? I haven't tried since they sold it but I know it's completely separate from target, basically they just rent the space inside the stores. If I can use Target GCs still I might switch back since I keep finding discounts on the GCs.

We pay for DS's prescriptions with Target gift cards with no problem.
