Ha - priorities!

My son asked if he could bring some friends home from college with him tomorrow since the school is closing, and of course I said that was fine. Not sure how many 21 year old boys I will have in the house. I sure do hope we keep power. Also thinking I need to go back to the grocery store . . .

My 21 year old college son responded to my text about getting water, non perishables, batteries, and gas for the car with "We're getting a case of beer, a life raft, and that is all." Boys!!!

Anyway, I got the 50,000 point upgrade offer for the Marriott card. I decided to do it using the link in (one of dozens) the email I got.

Fast forward and it was only 10,000 points added to my account. I would not have upgraded for 10,000 points. I sent a secure message and the response was sorry you were confused but it was just 10,000 points. I never even received ONE offer for 10k. Even a letter sent in snail mail was for 50k. Any experience with getting this fixed?

Not familiar with Marriotts offers...but maybe you can forward the email you received to apply for the 50,000 point upgrade to Marriott.

I want to fly ANA when we go to Tokyo in 2020, but I guess I need to start accruing more SPG points to transfer since I don't have any United miles and will not risk going for a United card with Chase. I do plan to churn Citi AA cards though so I guess I would have enough to fly JAL. It's just not as convenient as I'd have to position to get to JFK, where as ANA flies out of IAD.

Start accumulating MRs. MR is transfer partners with ANA and Virgin Atlantic, which you can use to book ANA award space. Moreover, Amex usually runs a transfer bonus for MR>VS once or twice a year.

Are you sure the 10k points aren't from a referral? Chase bonuses have been slow to post for about a month now, and I believe this includes upgrade bonuses. It could be the 10k points are from a referral, and your 50k points still have yet to go pending/post.

You can check your statements for where those 10k points came from. If it's from a referral, there should be a line for Refer A Friend, or something like that.

I'll just stick with my old pal Southwest and my domestic travel LOL! I consider myself to be EXPERT level on many things churning. I will full out admit that I have no clue how to fly with anybody other than Southwest...and no desire to learn

Yes but your beach loving self and your kids would enjoy say, Costa Rica. Although I do think SW flies there too. Lol

Thanks for that tidbit. I double checked even though I don't recall referring anyone and sadly that isn't the case. It reads: Bonus on Premier Plus Upgrade 10,000. I sent a follow up message to the reply I had received. If I don't get anywhere there I'm going to call. In my reply I asked who I should speak to to get it fixed.

Anyone have experience with things like this? Is Chase pretty good about making things right? Will threatening to cancel the card get me anywhere if it isn't fixed in a timely manner? 40k points is a lot to just let the issue go.

That's like the holy grail of personal AMEX offers...BOTH! I'm not even kidding...do both! You may never see either of those offers again. If I had to rank the, Plat offer is #1 (but PRG is #1A then!!)

EDIT: What is your husband's 5/24 status...both of these cards will count towards that sooooo there is that consideration.

Who has experience with Prepaid Gift cards and Venmo around here? Trying to maybe hit a little bit of that Q3 Freedom 5% category. It seems that Vanilla VGCs or MCGCs aren't gonna fly on Venmo? That's what I had read online, I picked one up (which if it doesn't work on Venmo, I have a use for it so no risk) and it's giving me an invalid zip code error (even though I setup my zip code).

Any thoughts or recommendations?

He is 2/24 dropping next June and September. I can do both on same day?

PRG (don't refer to it as Gold - that's a different discontinued card) annual fee is usually waived year 1 - is it waived on this offer?

I'd consider a 100k Plat when < 5/24 but I wouldn't touch a PRG offer if I was under 5/24. The 50k bonus (usually with a $2k spend) is available regularly through incognito.

I just had both offers also and applied for both with instant approvals. The $550 AF is scary though since most of the perks I probably won’t use since DS, DH and I already have Global Entry and being out in nowhere, we certainly don’t use Uber for those credits. I will get $200 SW GC. It was pretty card though. I applied on Sat evening and I received my card today via UPS.

No idea what I am going to do with the MRs those. I am thinking there might be some way to use them on Quantas?

oh yeah, it is waived year one. So I guess I will go platinum and save the PRG for another time.

My PRG AF was waived for the 1st year. So that one actually comes out ahead with the $100 travel credit.

I got distracted with life again, but I've been reading here the past 2 hours trying to catch up. I was hoping to figure out our travel goals so we could put together a carefully considered CC plan, but we are pretty up in the air. We loved, loved, loved our DCL Norway/Iceland/Scotland cruise. We are thinking that adventure-light trips are the goal - new places, new experiences, but with comfort. I know I can book nice flights (J or First - we aren't willing to fly coach for those 12+ hour trips) with MRs. I guess we might be able to use MRs for a cruise or hotel or a nice tour like ABD? We don't have anything specific in mind at this point - last month's trip literally came about one day when I stumbled upon the DCL itinerary and it was love at first sight... Help! I'll be watching everyone else's plans for some ideas I guess.

I think I'm just going to wait for DH to get home. If the flights are gone by then that's fine. I am extremely stressed about this right now and I feel so sick that I just don't even want to deal with it anymore.

I totally understand how this can be stressful and overwhelming at times. I hope you feel better soon and that you can find some good flights. I know that for our return flight (I booked one ways) I found this amazingly helpful guy at BA who walked us through the process of moving the MRs over the phone, while holding the seats I wanted until the points transferred. I was so grateful.

Haha thanks!! It’s possible I’d consider another airline if we do Hawaii sometime (for a 1st class experience) otherwise it’ll be SW for the foreseeable future. We have enough points to support 4-5 years of travel for the family (and that assumed we don’t earn another point).

I just like that people don’t judge me for not wanting to go on that dream trip to Thailand!

I think it's amazing that you have 5 years worth of travel saved up. #goals

And I love that we all have different goals - it makes the thread so much more helpful and interesting. There were many years when all the travel we did was either Disney or Hawaii so I totally get it, too. Great family destinations.

OMG that was my first thought, too. She's going to need A LOT more in the way of food. And yes, stay safe please.
