I love credit cards so much!

Discover can be kind of stingy. I have had a Discover Card for 31 years, the CL is 14k. My credit score >800. When I applied for a new Discover Card last December, they gave me a 5k CL. In contrast, Chase gave me 20k on my Disney Visa.

Interesting, I was the opposite - low CL on my oldest card, higher more in line CL on my new one. If I hadn't asked for CL increases on my old one I'm pretty sure it'd still be the 2k limit I opened it with. I assumed the increase in income got me the better limit. But I guess they've got a ratio they don't want to cross for all cards either.

Thanks! Now to decide whether I give up my Test Track FP and do the DVC and use my FP selections for the evening in AK. River Journey was available yesterday.

@striker1064 is right about the rides on the tour. But if you have a pool day anyway I think it is worth it. They picked us up from our resort as we did it at Saratoga Springs. They have an area for the kids and snacks. All the models are there which is good to see (if nothing else if like me you are interested in that type of stuff) and then after we got a $50 gift card and ice cream in a little parlor they have set up before taking you wherever you want to go. While the fast passes can’t be used for the big rides they came in handy as we used them on Test Track, Safari, and Pooh. You only have 3 days to use them though.

Discover is my oldest card, 21 years, and it isn't my highest CL. I know my aviator is highest cause they like to raise it but I think disc is around 10k. I don't know how often I update income.
I have never asked for an increase and never charged anything near the limit. If you charge close to your limit repeatedly, I think they will increase. Chase approved me for much higher limits on multiple cards but I have reduced them, not increased them.

I’m not sure how they figure it, but the 19k total CL from Discover is lower than any one Card from Chase and way less than 30% of income.

wait you're planning AZ in April? I'm planning a short trip in April/May 2019 using points too! I want to visit the Page area since we've traveled thru twice and still haven't seen that! I'm thinking of flying into Vegas and driving over since that appears to be cheapest and most direct for me....

Yes! Want to do about a 6 day trip in mid April. We want to fly to Tucson and then sort of road trip around the state. So we won’t be spending long in any one place, but I love to drive so I’m looking forward to sightseeing by car!

That’s right. I cancelled my card a couple months ago, the cert is still in my account. Make sure any cert you are using hasn’t expired by the time you need it. I’ve heard stories of the Marriot reps attaching alert to a res and then it expires before the actual res and the person is out of luck. They assumed if it was attached, it would work.

Shouldn’t have any problems with that since it will only be about 3 months from canceling my card to using my cert. thanks!

What’s a good retention offer for SW card? DH has been denied already, last try today if open.
Also anyone call for retention offer on Hyatt card? Any luck?

I would go with Chase first as they may give you the bigger credit line. Although Chase is a little less sensitive to inquires it seems than Discover. It seems, for me at least, and what I have read, that Discover will usually pull EQ and Chase could pull either TU or Ex...sometimes both.

Also, Both Chase and Discover won't know you have opened a new account until they start reporting. Some are slow to report like Amex that could take a couple months and Barclay, for example, reports before you even have the card in your hand.
Thanks, that was my plan. I have 3 Chase cards and I got a decent CL from the last one I opened, so I'm guessing that one will have a decent limit (although I'd like the other to be higher!).

Discover can be kind of stingy. I have had a Discover Card for 31 years, the CL is 14k. My credit score >800. When I applied for a new Discover Card last December, they gave me a 5k CL. In contrast, Chase gave me 20k on my Disney Visa.
This is my exact concern! My score is also >800 and I have a feeling the same thing will happen to me... Thanks for the DP, I'm definitely going to have to research a Plan B just to be safe.

I'll just echo this @Livelovedance . If you have good income and good credit you should get a CL in line roughly with some of your highest CL's. I don't think they're overly generous but for me they gave in my higher ranges for this last card. I found with them they don't volunteer CL increases. Every limit increase I got I had to ask for, but it's easy to do once you have some history with them. Also since you'll have a specific purchase, you could call to ask for a temporary (or permanent) increase for that purchase if you're close.

Should be fine with Discover. If you do both on the same day the only thing changes on your report is an inquiry. And depending on where you are they are probably pulling from different reports. It'll just effect you later with Chase as they'll both now be counted in your 5/24 count once they show up on your CR. 3rd card may depend on the card issuer, some are inquiry sensitive and not just account sensitive. Have to think about what that card may be and do some research for backup plans. But most likely you'll be ok with it. Someone on Reddit got 5 or 6 cards applied for on the same day recently, so it still happens. Your score may take a little dip from the inquires but that would bounce back, what will probably affect it more is your utilization ratio once you make the purchases and carry the balance.
Good to know. I'm really only concerned with the limit for the initial purchase. After that it doesn't really matter because I pay my balances in full. I'm going to research a new Chase card with a longer 0% APR, because I'm guessing that's where I'll get the best CL. If I go for 2 Chase cards and 1 Discover, I'll be sure to do both Chase cards first. Something that should be so simple is seeming more complicated the more thought I put into it lol.

That's what I was concerned about. I was hoping for at least 10k at opening, and now I'm realizing that probably isn't going to happen, especially as a new customer. Thanks for the DPs, time to do some more research...

Good offer for SW would waive the fee/equal statement credit, but I think that's rare. The typical one lately seems to be statement credit for half the fee. People here got 34or 35 off the plus, I saw reports of 50 for the premier.

For the Chase bank bonuses, has anyone triggered the dd requirement using their fidelity account? It looks like that will work according to Doc. I have the fidelity account that was opened to get the $200 bonus for depositing $200.

Struggling to figure this out. I assume for the saving account I can just transfer from my C1 account.

Thanks. That’s not an issue to use them since we are only there Sat-Mon and are only going to the parks on Sun since I had 2 PH passes that I won in a silent auction. So I figured the extra FP would come in handy to be able to accomplish quite a bit in that one day. I canceled my Epcot FP and booked for AK instead since I could use the FP to be able to cover the rides in HS and Epcot.

We did the DVC tour a few years ago when DS was 2 or 3 (he is now 11). They almost convinced us to purchase but we decided we didn’t want to be committed to vacations at Disney. I am really just interested in trading an hour of a pool day for extra fast passes.

DH is at 2/24. We don't have a MSR right now and I'm itching to get a card.

Here are his stats:
SPG personal 4/18
CIP on 5/18
Venture card 7/18

Is it too soon to get another card? I'm thinking maybe CIC? I'm up for a hotel card too. Any great ideas? He has a CSP that is over 2 years old but not cancelled yet. We have some recurring charges on it that I need to change before I cancel. I'm sad about the new 48 rule for Sapphire. So too soon for another card or go for it?

I'm at 3/24 until the first of the year. I'm hoping to do a Southwest Double dip for a companion pass. I'm trying to put myself in the best possible position. I applied for a CIP in April and was denied, I think due to too high of credit limits with SW. I just reduced the credit limit on my CSR from $35,000 to $20,000. I also need to cancel my SW Preferred card before applying. We have a flight on SW to NYC on Dec 28th. Would it be best to apply for the second SW card then to hope for the higher bonus? Any other advice on how to put myself in the best possible position to make this happen?

what points would translate into WBC?

Wyndham Bonnet Creek is not a DVC property, but it is a Wyndham property. Barclays services the Wyndham family, and all redemptions are a flat 15,000 points per night.

Yes. It was pretty good. I will say that if you get a chance to see 'Baby wants candy' for improv, it was a far better show for a mere $20. It's out of Chicago and was only here for 2 nights, but it tours and will probably come around again. I almost went to their second show, as they were hysterically funny.

Since I am now retired, I have to make an effort to get out more. I've gone from 'can't wait to get off work and get home' to 'can't wait to get out of the house'. So, I'm watching for all and any shows in the area that I might enjoy.

If you like improv, I highly recommend Washington Improv Theater at 14th and T St. Cheap tickets, small venue, but we had a great time. It was great.

My in-laws live in Tucson. My favorite local eats there are the Tucson Tamale Company and The Oink Cafe (good for bacon lovers like my sons!).

Right now Chase cards is all I know since I just started here in May and concentrating on getting them.
If you wanted to cancel your husbands CSP...you can then apply for the CSP or CSR with a referral link that right now still has the 24 month language. If you want to wait you could have him go for the CIC..since your 3-4 months from his last chase application.

For yourself make sure you close your SW card and allow it to show closed on your credit report before applying

Do you have a player 2 who could open up a card as well ?
