I love credit cards so much!

Newbie question: how long should one usually keep the card open after receiving bonus? Most of the cards I'm looking at have high AF, so I would like to close them before the year is up but I'm not sure if I should wait the full year or after the first 3 months?

I know there are dps that the CIP bonus is slow in posting right now. Anyone seen anything about CSR? Trying to be patient...
I finished my MSR on CSP a week ago and had a friend use a referral over a week ago, still no pending points for either of them. I don't even have a use for them, but just want to see them pending!

You should wait until the AF hits or right before it does prior to cancelling. Cancelling right away after getting the bonus will be frowned upon by the card issuer. Some card issuers will deny you future cards for that type of behavior. Sometimes if you wait until the AF hits and you call to get see about getting a rention offer you may get one that outweighs the fee. This is especially if you put spend on the card beyond the bonus.

I'm pretty upset seeing the CIP bonuses are pending longer than normal. We have been waiting forever to buy these plane tickets and I was hoping we would see the points sometime tomorrow or at least SOMETIME this week.

I think there were posts over on Reddit that all the Chase bonuses are slow to post right now

I read the same as @palhockeymomof2. It appears 'support link' points are posting normally but the regular bonus points are taking longer than usual on all cards.

Thanks for the responses! That is a bummer but good to know that I don't need to be getting anxious. Officially met the MSR on the CSP this week too! So should be getting a big surge of points and can't wait to see them all in there!

Same here, I just want to know they are there! Glad to see I am not the only one waiting!

If my SW CC anniversary is 9/4 and 9/6, when might I expect to see my anniversary points?

I had my anniversary for the SW cards in July and it took a while, it was after the statement closed. AF hit before they posted but I was easily able to close the cards and get the AF off of there after my points hit. But I didn't have a huge window of time to do it!

P2’s CIP closed its first statement yesterday, and we were able to finish the MSR yesterday as well, so HOPEFULLY that’s soon enough to get the bonus with the second statement. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the points to show pending.

His new IHG Premier has a TSA PreCheck/Global Entry credit. We'll probably get the Global Entry since we’re planning a trip to Europe in 2020. He also sometimes travels out of the country for work (Mexico and Japan). How long does it take for that paperwork to process?

I’m trying to decide whether to wait to get my daughter’s passport renewed now, or wait until she turns 16. After 16 it won’t expire for 10 years. Before 16 it’s only good for 5 years. She’s really developing an interest in travel so 10 years would be nice for the passport to be good. But we’re planning a road trip up into Quebec app 6 weeks after her 16th birthday, so it seems like that would be pushing it time wise for getting the passport back in time.

While I’m on the subject, any advice on driving (from Ohio) up to Toronto, then on to Montreal, Quebec City, then down the east coast of Maine and the rest of New England? Really looking forward to seeing old Quebec. Went there once but it was a short stay many years ago.

DH is at 2/24. We don't have a MSR right now and I'm itching to get a card.

Here are his stats:
SPG personal 4/18
CIP on 5/18
Venture card 7/18

Is it too soon to get another card? I'm thinking maybe CIC? I'm up for a hotel card too. Any great ideas? He has a CSP that is over 2 years old but not cancelled yet. We have some recurring charges on it that I need to change before I cancel. I'm sad about the new 48 rule for Sapphire. So too soon for another card or go for it?

I'm at 3/24 until the first of the year. I'm hoping to do a Southwest Double dip for a companion pass. I'm trying to put myself in the best possible position. I applied for a CIP in April and was denied, I think due to too high of credit limits with SW. I just reduced the credit limit on my CSR from $35,000 to $20,000. I also need to cancel my SW Preferred card before applying. We have a flight on SW to NYC on Dec 28th. Would it be best to apply for the second SW card then to hope for the higher bonus? Any other advice on how to put myself in the best possible position to make this happen?

I would change his CSP to a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. The card number will be the same and no need to change recurring charges. After you PC his card I would try one of the support links that still have the 24 month language and try to reapply for the CSP and double dip with the CSR using the 24 month support links also if you are OK with the spend and looking for that card also. If not now, you will be locked out of CSR for 4 years. We don't know how long the support links will say 24 months so sooner the better. Though you may need to wait a few weeks after PCing. I am not sure about that part.

As for you, are you going for the SW business first then trying for the personal on the flight? I think that should work fine. Or were you double dipping the personals on the same day? I am not sure how the flight offers work, so not sure if that would work or not.

Pretty much. If I knew I’d be hitting that bank again, I’d put a charge or two each month on the card. Nothing huge, but some activity. It seems that gone are the days we could hit MSR, sock drawer a card, cancel and then get it again or another type from the same bank.

If I’m remembering correctly you want to open cards to put your DVC purchase on...and we’re going to apply for one of the Disney Visa cards and another card.
Not sure if things have changed but I had both Chase Disney cards opened last year....maybe apply for both Disney cards..there are referral links for the no fee one
That's something to think about too. I'm going to have to finance a part of it, and I was looking for two cards to help me put down a decent downpayment and give me useful rewards. I'm calculating what I can afford to pay each month on the new cards to not have a balance at the end of a 0% apr time period. The problem with the Disney card was it only gives me 6 months, so I can't put as much on it as I could a card with a longer 0% period. I also realized as I was going through my cards that I already have a card that gives 2% on gas! Didn't even realize it - I'm so bad at this game... I'm planning on applying for whatever cards I have decided on on Monday, so I've got time to figure it all out. If needed though, I could always open the 2nd Disney card after I make the down payment if I wanted to make a decent principle payment and give myself another 6 months to pay that off... Sooo much to think about...

Yeah I mean, if we really want to get down in the weeds on this, we decided to pay for DVC using Amex MR earning cards and going with Schwab cashout to put toward the cost of DVC. So if you really wanted to help with the cost, you could also consider something like the 100k vanilla Platinum (if you can get it, if not, 75k) + 60k Schwab Platinum + 20k Blue for Business Plus + 25K Everyday + 50k Premier Rewards Gold. That right there gives you $5k/$5k/$3k/$2k/$2k = $17k MSR, and DVC will let you split up your payment as much as you want. With sign up bonuses + MSR you'll have 272k MR, at 1.25cpp Schwab cashout, that's $3,400. Not a bad chunk of change. Depending on how much you're buying, you could substitute any of the above with the 100k/$10k Business Platinum, and you'd only be limited by velocity with Amex.

Note this idea isn't for everyone, and probably definitely not if you're under 5/24 a well, but just an option.
I'm not sure what most of that means, but it sounds amazing! :worship: To be completely honest, AmEx scares me a little for no good reason lol. I have the AmEx Blue Cash, and that's as far as I've been comfortable to go with them. I am under 5/24 for now, so I'm trying to be smart about my next moves!

I don't remember if this was talked about, but Chase moves around credit lines very easily...just a SM and it is usually done in 12 hours. So if you don't get the credit you need, you can move the credit from your two Freedoms for now and then move it back after your DVC purchase is settled.

For example - If both your Freedoms have a $10k limit (so $20k total) and you get approved for the Disney card with $7.5k, you can move the bulk of the credit from your Freedoms (minimum to keep on them is $500) and move that to Disney so you could have an easy $25k limit. You can't move more credit then what you have available so if your Freedom has a balance of $1k, then you need to leave at least $1k of CL on there.
That's good to know too! I was trying not to put too much on the Disney card because it's only a 6 month 0% period, but I will keep that in mind if the Disney card limit isn't as high as I anticipate it to be. I feel like it will be a good limit, but who knows! I know I'll be very nervous when I finally make my moves!

Thank you to everyone that has offered me advice and suggestions as I continuously post trying to figure this all out! I know I'm extremely cautious and conservative about this, but I've received help without judgement and that means a lot to me! I truly appreciate it! :thanks:

That's a tough call! I say now I would chance it, go in on her birthday and hope it comes in time. But I know I would be a nervous wreck about it also. I just looked and it took my DD exactly 2 weeks to get hers in Feb 23 - March 9. I know it is highly variable, but I would think 6 weeks plenty of time. And I have no advice on driving through those areas, but it sounds like a great trip! Quebec City and Maine are on my short (well maybe it is long) list of where to go next.
