I love credit cards so much!

And I still don't understand why the only info that has really come out has only been released to a couple of bloggers. I don't read either one of those blogs. If it weren't for those here who are sharing info, I'd be in the dark that anything has changed.

Marriott has the travel packages right on their website as an option for people. It isn't like some secret menu at In & Out that you have to know about to order from it. It's right there on the website. So, these packages are available to all people...not just travel hackers...Marriott really should be distributing info through their website or emails to let people know what is going on
I would like my nights and flights Animal Style. If animal style means not losing 75k+ points towards my planned trip that is.
Sounds like they are planning to do an in-flight application on a plane in October (where the 50k offer is still available). Now - if Chase does a higher public SW offer (or ups the referrals again) then that'd be great!
Where does one find the higher SW offer? Planning a cp January and I'd be willing to do a random flight somewhere for the higher sign-up.

Here are my options for obtaining CP.
---------------------------------------------------------------
(I have 16k towards CP already) (2/24 plus CIP, 0/120, 0/3, 0/30…next falling off 7/1/19)
————————————————————————————

OPTION 1:

Plus/Priority DD…Biz (later)

$20k spend

165k points (80k now + 25k later + 65k later)
-------

OPTION 2:

Biz/priority

$19k spend

125k points (100k now+25k later)
--------

OPTION 3:

Biz/plus

$4k spend

100k points…all now
----------

OPTION4:

DD plus/priority

$17k

105k points (80k now+25k later)

In the back of my mind I am hearing this nagging voice: "You have enough points to book your Dec cruise flights already. Wait and do CP for 2019/2020. You can even app for the premier on your flight for 50k."

To which I say: "But I could use the URs on pre/post cruise stays instead of flights if I had the CP and all those SW points."

Then I think: "should I get a cic now instead? And maybe get DH a SW biz now for some SW points. He can't do personals again for a CP until next fall."

GAAHHH! Yes, I am like this about all decisions...not just travel related.:headache:

You are my spirit animal. Somehow your travel plans are always right in line with what I'm trying to do. I have been needing to compare different combos of SW cards to figure out which would work best so thank you! Still not sure which one I will do. That's a steep jump in MSR. I swear Marriott and SW are trying to make this difficult for me:rolleyes1

Yes, I am able to log on to his CIP. I guess that’s good anyway. Maybe they want more ID from him having 2 apps in one month? If so, not sure why they didn’t ask for it during the phone call about the IHG card yesterday.

I “think” that’s good...has he called to ask why the charges were denied or received any fraud alerts

No fraud alerts. He’s still in town and said he’ll try calling when he gets home. Will he be grilled about his “business”? Hoping things will smooth out here with these two cards and it will be worth it later.

DH told me the first rep he talked to yesterday (before I got home) asked him ID questions about previous home addresses but he didn’t recognize any of them. Do you think they’ve mistaken him for someone else? Strange to think it could happen. Don’t they go by SS#?

things do get mixed up sometimes. we have someone in here who had their CIP get shut down. after about a few weeks, it turns out they mixed his name with a P other similar name and they reinstated his account. is the card still in his login? this will tell us if it's just a fraud or an actual shut down.

It’s possible....someone had posted on here about a mistaken id with Chase and his CIP shutdown....he was able to get it reinstated...don’t remember exactly how....

You’ll see ads for the 50k offer on the SW in flight site. Make sure you’re on a plane with WiFi.

Is MPX still getting the bonus UR points for dining or other bonus categories? Last time I used it, specifically it was Maggiano's, Panera and something else late Spring, I wasn't getting the 3x UR on dining, only 1x. I might try it again, but only if it codes correctly. Anyone have any recent history?

Yes, I’m still able to access his CIP account. The IHG account hasn’t even been set up online yet. We hadn’t even been able to activate it yet.

There's been so much conversation this past day that I think my questions were buried!

Thank you so much! So an Amex Biz instead of the CIP? Which Amex? I am not familiar with them at all lol

I did think about referring dh to a CF so that we could max out the categories for 2 CFs. I don't want to upgrade his CSP to a CSR now because we are nowhere near redemption at this point. We just started collecting UR in July :)

The only other Chase cards I could think for dh would be the Hyatt or one of the United cards. Should he move to non-Chase products?

I appreciate your responses!

Last night I took a look at the United redemption chart. It would be at least 320,000 miles for the two of us to fly roundtrip to Australia :faint: We have about 80,000 UR now
Wow yes that’s a lot of URs but if you have 2 players ....it’s possible...2 CIPs, 2CSR and 2CSP

I thought I'd share my experience using Chase UR and AmEx MR to fly IcelandAir in July.

I transferred Chase UR points to Alaska miles for our outgoing flight. After purchasing IcelandAir tickets with Alaska miles, I was able to select seats on the IcelandAir website. All of the seats purchased with Alaska miles were Economy Standard and included a free checked bag.

I payed for our return flight with AmEx MR points, and I purchased the flight on the AmEx travel portal. After purchasing tickets, I was able to select seats on the IcelandAir website. Unfortunately, the seats via the AmEx portal were Economy Light and required an extra payment for baggage. At the time, I could not find a way to purchase Economy Standard via the AmEx travel portal.

Also, you should know that IcelandAir used to have 3 seating classes, but now there are only two - Economy and Saga. Even though there is only one Economy Class, on their narrow body jets, the first six rows of economy have much more leg room than the rest of the plane. (It's like Economy Plus on United or Delta Comfort+.) I was able to select these seats for our flights regardless of whether I purchased Economy Standard with Alaska miles or Economy Light with AmEx MR points.

Hi, I’d also like to know how you transferred UR to Alaska since they aren’t a transfer partner. Thanks in advance! :-)

Yes. Pass through coding is back. Use CSR for dining and travel merchants’ gift cards for 3x UR + whatever UA miles the app earns, CIC for 5x UR + UA miles for OD/OM/Staples gift cards (can’t be used for GC>GC), and whatever card you’re working on MSR for all other 1x merchant categories.

Another DP of getting 2x the 5,000 bonus MR for first charge on the Amex Biz Green. I put a very small charge on my card on Sat., and my MR balance was 10k higher when I checked today. The line items were labeled a little differently, but it was 2 separate 5k credits related to the welcome bonus for that card. Love getting extra points!!

Also, I tried merging my SPG and Marriott accounts yesterday afternoon and got an error message at the last step, but I was able to successfully merge about half an hour ago. I have no idea where my total nights came from, but the total points seem more or less correct. What I don't see yet is my free night cert that I had on Marriott in the combined account, nor my 7-night category 1-4 cert from the N&F package I purchased a few months ago.

I had 3 more gift card I listed on Monday. Two sold pretty quick, but then were relisted because they were "unable to fulfill the order to the buyer" :confused3 I double checked the numbers today and they're all correct. Two just sold again, and one actually got a shipment notification, so fingers crossed!

I also got emails that my checks on on their way for the first 5 I sold - $22 in profit not including credit card points :) If I get these 3 sold that's another $12, and I have another gift card I'm listing tonight that I can make $3-$4 on.

I know it's not a ton, but it's very little work overall and I'm feeling a bit addicted. Maybe not as nice a payoff as a bank bonus, but...

Congrats on the double dip! I would have done GE as it covers both domestic and international but TSA was way easier. I needed to go into airport at Boston and that wasn’t happening. We fly out of Providence RI alot. They have since added another location but I also had no international travel on the horizon.

Uggh Amex is slow to post it’s like they do it on purpose.

Thanks for this. I’m just outside Boston and use PVD too!
Do you know where the added location is?

I'd like to know this as well! I'm in RI and don't want to go to Logan if/when I get global entry. I went for precheck since there wasn't anywhere closer.

Its right on Jefferson Blvd. About 2 minutes away from the airport right off Int. 95 and Rt 1/Rt 37. They moved here right after I got my TSA Pre a couple months back.

I definitely respect that opinion - this one really could go either way. Yes, Chase does send emails with apply now dates from time to time and they mean nothing. BUT we've seen those dates mean SOMETHING recently too...Marriott Premier Plus is one such example. Currently there are rumors of the offer on the New Southwest card changing too, so we have a history of seeing this occur on new cards.

On the opposite side though, The offer on CIP has never changed since it's introduction. The website shows "NEW CARD" by CIU and "NEW OFFER" by CIC and makes no mention of the offers going away. I'd assume Chase would publicize if they were going away to try to drum up some sign ups and urgency.

I'd say there's less than a 50% chance this is going away...but there is a chance. My recommendation would be that anybody who was planning to get a CIC or CIU between now and October do so before Sept 20th if possible. If you weren't planning to apply in Sept/Oct then I wouldn't alter your plans just for this (unless you're simply swapping cards in your strategy, i.e. delay an SPG biz for a CIC or something like that). I wouldn't RUSH things with Chase for this card right now though, it's not worth the risk.

Right, I probably should have said I wouldn't go by just that. But for both the Marriott and Southwest cards, the expiration date was/is posted on their respective sites, just not the Chase site. It does get harder for Chases' own products as they don't always advertise expiration dates for those (the meanies) and so we jump on anything. Have to imagine they had a nice spike on the CIC around May 20 from that internal memo leak... it got me

But I totally agree with your recommendation, if you were planning it anyway can't hurt to get it before the 20th. Since they are New cards/offers I imagine they will drop at some point but it may come around again so not worth jeopardizing the Chase plan.

There's been so much conversation this past day that I think my questions were buried!

I think CIP and CSP/CSR double dip afterwords is a great way to collect those UR. So it would be 80+50+50=180k UR, plus use your DH link and get more UR!
Make sure you take a break btw the chase cards! Many here say to put at least 3 months btw your apps.
If you are able - I would get a Amex bussiness card in those 3 months to keep gong with your MSRs if you would like to diversify.
And if later DH gets comfortable with the CIP you can refer him and that would be another 80K plus your points for referring him!
So you could potentially get over 260k UR in the end.
But that will depend on when you want to travel. Not sure if you have enough time to do the above or not.

Thank you! Wow, I can't believe I didn't know this. I work right off of Jefferson Blvd!

You all were so helpful when I started asking questions a few months ago :goodvibes I'm back for Round 2!

Background: We've had 2 credit cards for decades (Discover and a Citi they changed from something else a year or so ago), but have decided to play the travel game :thumbsup2 Ultimate goal is flying lay flat business to Australia and using points for some hotels there. I had hoped for 2019 but 2020 is more likely. We are DVC, travel to WDW as a couple once a year and as a family with our young adult kids every 12-18 months. Dh and I take a national parks-type trip once a year, generally flying SW. Youngest flies SW for school breaks. PHL and BWI are airports of choice.

Dh is a reluctant P2 who will not apply for business cards. I have just finished homeschooling youngest and am contemplating getting back to tutoring like I did before we started homeschooling 8 years ago. So that would work as a legit business.

Me:
CF 7/18 (1/24)

DH:
CSP 7/18 (1/24)

I think going for the SW CP (so that it's valid for 2019-2020) is a good idea for us between our usual travel and visiting my extended family in CA more often. But when in relation to other cards? CIP is a good choice for me first because of the number of UR, right? CIC would be better in the long-run though, I think.

Double dipping kinda makes me nervous :scared:

Right now we can meet spends of $5-7K/3 months easily. $8-10K would take planning. We are considering some work on the house, though.

Suggestions with timing?

And another thing---I've read Chase prefers not more than 50% of income in credit limits. Is that combined across personal and business cards? And is there also a $ limit, rather than the 50% amount?

Thanks so much :wave2:
Sorry I didn't respond to this the first time around :)

If you have a use for URs coming up it could make sense to get yourself a CSR to take advantage of that 1.5x. Normally I'd say go for CIP first...BUT if you want to redeem some URs through the portal that would be a reason to go CSR first.

I'd really think about doing that double dip...your husband can refer you to CSP which is AWESOME. AND you could get a CSR...Also remember Chase will typically give 115 days for that. If you did a double dip on Sept 4th that would mean your MSR period would go past Christmas! If you can typically meet the $5k-$7k in 3 months...maybe NORMAL Christmas spending would push you over the top to hit the $8k? OF course you could also buy some gift cards for future use if you fall short - I've been known to buy some grocery and gas station gift cards to hit an MSR when I was coming up short.

If a double dip really doesn't make sense now...then CIP isn't a bad move either. The higher bonus makes CIP the right move over CIC - you can always PC your CIP to a CIC later...OR you can just get a CIC later if you want.

At this point - I'd say you should chart out a plan for your next 4-5 cards (over the next 12ish months) so you know where you're headed :)
