I love credit cards so much!

I got grumpy with the AMEX guy. I mean, I don't get super mean/grumpy really, but he annoyed me with his replies:

I see there's a tax payment of $1434 on 04/01. Tax payments along with transactions such as gift card purchases, card fees, etc are considered ineligible for points.

I didn't see that in the restrictions, or I would have chosen a different card.

Cards usually don't offer points for tax payments. We can offer discounts via offers & promotions, however, there're no points for tax payments.
We come up with offers and promotions all the time. If there's an offer or discount available to your card, we certainly let you know.

I will remember to use my Chase business card next year, since it does earn points on my tax payments.

Maybe it was how I read it in my head, but it felt condescending... I'm still annoyed. Then he went on about how I had 4 35 cent charges and charges under 50 cents don't earn points... okay, but my spending on that statement was $4963 and I earned 3477 points... even without the tax payment that's off by 54 pts. But he "went through every transaction one by one" :badpc:

He also told me that this was an internal investigation and they don't contact me for that, when I just said I had wanted to check since I hadn't heard anything. Soooooo you opened a case on my request for my missing points, tell me the time frame is 6-8 weeks but usually much faster than that, but won't let me know the results? No one was going to call or message me and say my tax payment was ineligible for points? :headache:

So I lost my cool, and probably shouldn't have said that about Chase :sad2:

How do you combine spg and Marriott points? The directions I see say log in to SPG account then click "Transfer Starpoints to Marriott Points". I do not see that button anywhere. I am 99% positive I linked the accounts. How would I know if I did or did not link them? You guys are giving me serous FOMO about the travel package, but I am not sure I even have enough points. Was not sure if they had to be moved in 000 increments. I have xx978 spg points and if I can not move those last 3 digits that might make the difference.

Ok, I finally found the link. 276,000 points. What to do, what to do. I really could use more RR points.

When you do the dummy booking and pull up the offer, it says it directly on the offer. Or at least, it did for me.

It's probably worth noting that there are numerous Hilton Biz offers circulating right now. The public and referral offers (which don't have a stmt credit or waived fee to my knowledge) show no exp. date. The current "Hot" offer with the $50 stmt credit AND waived AF that you can get thru dummy booking shows an exp. date of 8/19.

Hmm... decisions... I'd sort of like DH to get the waived AF since I'm probably going to have to talk him through the AF on the CSR a little bit. But I also want to get him the Citi AA biz I just got myself... Too many good offers out right now!

Cash is king when received; rarely, when paid.

LOVE THIS.

Too many good offers out right now!

Seriously...:sad2:

Too many cards and not enough spend to go through the MSRs; already prepaid quite a few things. Granted, I'm saying this having tackled $17K in MSR back in March between the Spark Biz and two SPG Biz...

Was taking a break from MS and enjoying it (got to be "tedious" as @Albort put it once), but now might have to jump back in...how sensitive is Citi to MS, anyone? If not, I might get DH the Citi AA Biz (or Hilton Biz) too to keep his report clean since he's due for the CIP now. Waited about 6-months since the Marriott Biz and had to close his SW Biz to make room before I could pull the trigger. Figured I could sneak another Biz card in before the CIP :D

Ugh Amex, what are you doing. I understand (well I don't really, but they do it) why they exclude cash-equivalent purchases from points, but I really do not understand why a tax payment is ineligible. It's a payment of a service! Not a cash equivalent. So crazy.

What kind of tax payment? I paid property and income taxes with my AMEX for an MSR on different cards, and got points for both.

So frustrating. But I don't want to fight any more for what amounts to $30ish in points and make the AMEX gods mad. I kind of wanted to say, my state tax payment earned points! Then with my luck they would have been like, oh we need to deduct 400 points!

I remember Amex was actively promoting using their Amex cards to pay your taxes around tax season too. That’s just shameful if they deny you the points.

Yep, it seems you can pay your taxes with points but can't earn points from them :confused3 Really? WTH?

(although they really need to spell that out if that's the case because cash equivalent is the only possible category I can see in the ineligible list for them to claim and a tax payment is a big stretch of the imagination to fit in there. just speechless)

im pretty sure its done that way so that Amex has control of whatever they like haha.

No retention offer for my SW Premier, so I now have 0 SW cards. I was kind of expecting something but no offers on either SW card.

So, now I will play it cool for just a little bit until I can double dip. I am getting antsy and for the first time in a little while I am without a MSR and am paying attention to category spend.

I've also been wanting to use my AMEX Sam's offer but I have been having SO MANY problems with my AMEX online account and it won't let me reset the password or anything. And now the "system is down". Grrrr..

Chase told me they could have transferred the negative balance to another card as long as I was the primary or secondary person on the account. I'll remember that for my Plus card next.

the grey number under the transaction amount is your running card balance. I don't know of anywhere on discover to see the cashback earned on an individual transaction like Chase. You can guestimate on the 5% calendar page where it gives your total earned to date on both category spend and regular spend, but it's not up to the minute as soon as a charge posts. It some times takes a day or two to update.

however I did just notice on the transaction details they put a picture of which card was used to make the purchase  so hubby can't say he didn't do it, I've got the proof right on the screen.
wow..ok! that's confusing..... so the only way to keep track of category spend is keeping track of my totals I guess
