I love credit cards so much!

I have been away on vacay and I don’t have time right now to read all the many pages I missed (gosh, it’s a lot,LOL.) I just have to pay some bills quickly and I wanted to pop on here and ask if all was still good with CIP and plastic. TIA!

I will have to catch up in the wee hours....

As far as I know, everything still good. Haven't used it yet, but planning to this week so I hope!

Thanks. I just chatted. They said that the promotion wasn't attached so they couldn't honor the bonus, even though I opened up the 2 accounts in the correct timeframe. I said I definitely used the link, otherwise I wouldn't know which two accounts needed to be opened, and the link must have broken when I had to reset my password. She agreed but nothing could be done. I'm pretty upset about it and am going to close the accounts.
Wait! CFPB them first! You have screenshots right? File a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It doesn’t take long but it will at the least make Fidelity use resources to reply to your complaint and at the best get you your bonus. I would also try calling first so in your CFPB complaint you can say you contacted them two different ways.
ETA: their “technical difficulties” are not your fault or responsibility. They are still obligated to fulfill their financial promise.

:offtopic:

Sorry I'm so off topic today guys. I'll stop after this post.

I just sent DH this Pixar Food Guide(complete with boxes to check off and a map) from the DL website and told him I wasn't planning on coming home a quitter... or skinny :rotfl2:

https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/pixar-fest-themed-food/#/drawer=drawer-pixar-themed-eats (Find it under "Amusing Foods")

I still have a tummy ache from reading about your Deluxe dining from your honeymoon! lol I am not sure where you put it all.

Anyone happen to remember how long it took for their Marriott bonus points to post after statement closing? I'm cutting it close for booking a Nights/Flight package and I need to buy SPG points before the sale ends on 7/20. Thanks!

My most recent Plastiq payment was on 7/5 and that coded as 3x. Of course, TPG posted their big Plastiq earns 3x on CIP article on 7/4, so who knows how long the good times will last.

@wendow -

I recall you're looking to buy an Amazon Fire to replace DD's lost one. I don't know if your DD's Fire was an 8 or 10.

There's a deal for Prime Members-only today on a refurbished Fire HD 8 16GB Black tablet (with ads) for $39.99: http://a.co/3nexWfj

There doesn't seem to be any deals on the Fire HD 10 right now, but Prime Day is next week so there should be some good deals coming up.

Remember to go through Ebates for 4% cash back on Amazon devices and pay with Amazon gift cards you can buy for 5x UR or 10% off.

There are targeted Amex Offers too, but they're probably better maximized on other deals.

That's so weird. I called the 1800Walgreens # after two stores told me the same thing, and the customer service person said it was system-wide. Given the comments here, that's clearly not the case.

Ha! I may just do that :)

Wow, clearly I was given misinformation or stores are making the decision individually. I went to two Oakland walgreens. Maybe I'll try the burbs.

I was assuming this was the case, but when I called Walgreens the lady didn't hesitate and said it was a store wide policy. I have to go to the Peninsula soon so I'll try over there. Super frustrating to be given bad information though. Thanks for the help with the local stores.

Banging head over here!!!

From all the reports, I'm guessing the customer service lady was wrong and the Oakland stores made their own policy (which was initially what we thought due to the location.) I hope you have better luck than me :)

I'm optimistic you are just running into one-off Oakland store policies and that you'll have better luck on the Peninsula or in the East Bay, but if all else fails, you and your CF can come visit me in Boise (ID is closer than FL, and we have a cider house) :) I just bought a $300 Amazon gift card at the Walgreens near my office without any issue. The only thing the cashier said is that gcs can't be returned.

It's interesting to read about these regional differences. No problem buying $500 worth of GCs at Walgreens with a CC but I can't find a gas station anywhere close that will let me buy any kind of GC with a CC.

I don’t understand this at all. Do people generally walk around with wads of cash they can whip out and use to buy gift cards? Such a weird policy.

I was chatting with my stylist while getting my hair done the other day and she said that she took cash to the county collections office to pay her property taxes. Sheer surprise to me! I am not carrying thousands of $$$ with me.

Exactly! I mean, I know some people do :sad2: Last night DH asked if I had $5 for the car wash, and it was like well you're in luck because of the cash my grandpa gave us...

Even before I started churning, I always put everything on my crappy BoA card! I only use checks/cash for the bills (mainly related to horses) that aren't feasible to use Plastiq for.

I always pay my horse trainer in cash and it makes me so nervous when I hand him a bank envelope with money in it and then watch him put it in his shirt pocket and get on a horse to go ride :scared: It hasn't fallen out yet...

Not to bring things down, but I didn't get the job. Trying to focus on the positive that it means I'm supposed to do something else/better but it's hard because I have a hard time with getting jobs. Most I've gotten, even all the way back to my first job in hs, was through someone, whether I was referred or found out once I applied that I knew someone there, or through a temp agency. I felt much better about all of this than other jobs I've interviewed for and didn't get. I did realize that I forgot to send a thank you note, but I wasn't given a business card and it was a group interview so I just spaced on it.

Onto other things...

It is Oakland and I'll leave it as that. But to me given the city it makes sense that they would implement this due to fraud. Though I can also imagine there's a lot of people that don't use banks that buy these cards with cash, their job pays them in cash etc.

I'm sorry about the job. :sad2: Ok, so maybe it's a thing in Oakland? I live on the other side of the Bay and I'll be very, very surprised if you can't buy them with credit cards here.

Me too! I used my Discover for everything once I got it!

I get super anxious when DHs 4'10" 85 year old grandma pulls out her bank envelope of $100s to pay for things.

We've decided on Japan in late fall 2019. I'm having such a hard time deciding which airline to book my Marriott N+F package with. I'm currently waffling between Alaska for JAL or Virgin Atlantic for ANA. We'd have enough for business or first, but from what I'm reading I don't think it's worth spending the extra points on first, for a couple of reasons. DH is vegan, I'm vegetarian, so the food offerings will be limited in either class. And since we're traveling together, the first class seats seem to actually be too secluded. Especially on ANA, it's very difficult to talk to your travel partner. As long as we have lie-flat seats, I think business will be more than adequate. I have to admit though that I'd love to SAY I flew first class to Japan. :bitelip:
It looks like points will be lower but taxes will be higher for ANA, and there seems to generally be more award availability than JAL. Both products look mighty sweet to me. I wish someone would just tell me what to do!

Thanks! When I think Oakland and what I remember from when I lived in the Bay it makes sense. Like I could see stores in East San Jose doing something similar (unless that area has gotten better it's been 14 years since I lived down there).
