One more question about closing a SW account. I applied and was approved August 2017. Points awarded October (or Nov)...When will my points for this year be posted? As well as when will the AF post. And which month do I call to close.

Thanks

DP on the Fidelity bonus: I opened the accounted Thursday but didn't fund it. I linked my C1 account to it and by Monday or Tuesday I was able to push the money to Fidelity. Got the "You're registered" email on Tuesday. The money was in my account Thursday and I don't see the bonus yet, but when I check the status (going through the "You're registered" email, it shows four $50 bonuses have been initiated). That was relatively easy! SunTrust and PNC (again) next!

Just bought a wedding gift on my CIP and as soon as Plastiq charges my card for my student loan payment this month, I will officially have met my MSR! Since I got Chase to agree to honor the 100k UR small business week offer over the phone, I have to call them once I officially hit $5000 and have them add the extra 20k to my account.

@Haley R - I saw this and thought of you. If you can snag a cheap positioning flight with miles to to LAX which should't be too hard to do this may work out really well. Heck, visit DLR for a couple of days and then head to Tokyo. Best economy seats in the world and really inexpensive! $575 RT! Cut off date to book is in a couple of days.

Thanks for thinking of me! I sent the links to dh to see what he thinks. I’m not sure if he will want to book this early or not but that’s a pretty cheap ticket. Would we be able to us UR from chase on those tickets?

For plastiq/town taxes, how do you send it,like just the town name?
Mine was county taxes, but I just put the info that was on my bill. I had trouble at first, Plastiq kept giving me a message I can't pay this with an AMEX, but after a couple of chats and a couple of days they were able to fix it because taxes are a legit expense on Plastiq with AMEX.

@LynnTH

If you call Chase, they might tell you what cards they are counting. This happened to me when I misjudged the dates and got denied for the same reason -- I called and said, "Four cards in two years doesn't seem like too many," and the Chase rep said there were five, and what they were.

He did tell me the cards I had.... but he was also counting in the 2 Chase Business Cards too. He mentioned those specifically.. I thought they didn't look at those.

Guys...I am crazy...or an idiot...or both. I just sat here for about 15 minutes trying to figure out the best strategy to get my remaining "orphan" points from my wife's Marriott account to mine. We've been consolidating all points in my account. She has 839 points that I can't move over...after going through some strategies that will work I finally realized...we have 1.4 million points in my account. Those remaining points are worth < $7 to me. Maybe I should just worry about them when I get done using the 1.4 million...or just let the $7 go.

My desire to optimize everything is great...but maybe not in this scenario LOL!
I was doing the same thing last night, except for a few more points. DH has about 15,000 Marriott that I want to move to my account and then consolidate with our combined SPG. I don't absolutely need them right now, but it would be nice to have everything in one spot. What are the odds they'll allow household transfers online for free after the merger? Have they talked about that yet?

I went through a similar stage with FIRE (early retirement)...There was a flurry of excitement initially as we got some things in order and now we are in the accumulation phase, basically nothing I can do but work, save and let time pass.

...Ok - at any rate, just venting, haha. Back to your regularly scheduled DISchurners discussion...

I know this was from a few days ago (still trying to catch up - only 25 pages behind!), but congrats on your FIRE path! We are in the VERY early stages, but it's exciting!

Marriott currently will let you move points - it says there's a fee but I've done it twice in the past couple years and they haven't charged me a fee either time. You can also move them at time of booking if you need those points for no fee. I'd be surprised if any of that changes after the "merger" since it was already that way before and currently.

Increments of "3k" Marriott are easy to move via the Marriott=>SPG=>SPG=>Marriott plan but that will go away in August. I moved 18,000 yesterday from my wife to me. She has 2,839 left (I know I can move the 2k through Marriott's procedure - hence why I was "fretting" the 839, lol!)

I think the early and late stages are super exciting! Realizing that there's a better way to live and save initially is awesome. I'm sure as you approach the end that's cool too.

We are about 3 years in although admittedly we were basically on the path for 5 years before I knew it had a name and was a "thing". This middle stuff is boring...work...earn...max out 401k, HSA, IRA...rinse, repeat...for years! hahaha!

Excellent news all around. I forgot all about the Marriott-SPG-Marriott trick. I cannot keep all this stuff straight. :crazy2: Thank you for the reminder!!

This is the part I can't figure out when award space is released. If I am looking at early/mid Aug, I keep thinking I should be checking now or soon. Any tips?

Yes. Different airlines release at different dates. Here is a decent guide.

Whats the best way to Earn UR with Amazon? I have a CSR, FU, CIP. I thought the CIP earned 3x gift cards at Staples but it doesnt.

I don’t believe the Chase Ink Preferred earns 3x at office supply stores. The Chase Ink Plus (no longer available) does earn 5x at office supply stores. The Chase Ink Cash also earns 5x at office supply stores. The CFU only earns 1.5.

Our strategy for earning tons of UR points ...

DH and I each have an Ink Plus which is no longer available but the Ink Cash would work too. We purchase gift cards at Staples and Office Depot/Max. The majority is Disney gift cards since the majority of our vacation spending is Disney. Between DVC dues, Disney cruise line, Adventures by Disney, annual passes and visits to WDW and DLR we can easily pull in 100,000 UR points or more each year. The goal is always to try and get 5x UR on everything we can.

I have a Chase Freedom and DH has two. We do our best to maximize the quarterly bonuses. When we do that gets 22,500 each quarter and 90,000 each year.

The CSR is used for travel and dining except for dining at WDW. Dining at Disney parks is paid with a Disney gift card that we earned 5x on by getting it from an office supply store.

CIP gets 3x via Plastiq for mortgages. Our mortgage is paid off so we have no FOMO on not having the CIP.

You’re welcome. That shouldn’t be a problem. I’d search for the exact flights that are $575 and then write down dates times and flight numbers. Then go through the Chase travel portal. If you don’t find then call up Chase UR travel, give them the flight numbers and dates and they can book it and you can pay with UR points.

If anyone else is considering this and you have the CSR you’d get the travel credit for $300 and that brings the price down to $275! Assuming you haven’t triggered the travel credit yet.
