I love credit cards so much!

I have an amex MSR happy churning story today.

DS8 made his hockey team of choice, :yay:, so I logged on to pay the deposit of $500 and they accept amex!!! I thought for sure they wouldn't. What a nice surprise. I went ahead and authorized the rest of the team fees to be paid at the same time...so $2k knocked off my MSR.:cloud9:

Ok, I'm so unfamiliar with booking through the Marriott site :rolleyes1

How can I put it under someone else's name/add them as the other guest so they can also check in and use my points??? :confused3
You can book everything under your own name, then call and add someone else as the other guest in the room. They should be able to check in no problem.

So I just called to try for a retention offer on my Southwest Plus card and was thrown for a loop when the rep tried to talk me into canceling! She said she sees I have a Disney card and an Amazon card, both with no fees, and a Chase Sapphire Reserve which is better than the Southwest card for travel rewards, so there was no point in keeping the Southwest card! I was so thrown off I just said I need to think about it, thanked her and hung up. What in the world?!

ETA: she also said there was no point to having all these cards when I could just use the Reserve for everything! I wanted to say but what about the signup bonuses!!! Have you not been on the I Love Credit Cards so Much thread on Disboards?! lol

I would have been speechless lol! That is so funny!

A bit of a non-budget whine: MDE has been down all morning. This is the morning I could get our ADR's. I know it'll be back up eventually, but :worried:

Yay! I just texted DH and told him that since our Geico premium is getting ready to renew, I'm just going to go ahead and pay the six months upfront. They're charging me an extra $1 a month to withdraw it from my bank account anyways, so I'm actually saving money  I haven't double checked, but I'm sure they take Amex, so that's $600 down!

Definitely don't do AUs. When I have requested an expedited card from Chase, they expedite me a card and almost always send me a second card by regular mail too, so that may be one way to get them. Also, if you SM or call Chase and say (ahem, lie) your card has been damaged and you need a replacement, they'll send you a new card with the same numbers. My dog chewed my new CF last year and I got a new card that way, all numbers were the same.

You can add employees on business cards without it counting as AU on their reports with Chase.

Also, I've used DH's CIP multiple times including out of state at hotels without him being there and never had an issue.
Thank you for the responses.

My dh's spg biz has never even touched his hands lol...I do all the spending with it and have always signed my name. Not an AU'er but it hasn't seemed to matter?? Obviously, signing is less a thing these days anyways.
I guess I don't know how to multi-quote :-). Thank you for your response.

There used to be a spot to add guest names with your preferences (extra pillow, floor level). But they changed their site around so I'm not sure where it is anymore when booking it. But I think you can still add one when you edit it. So may have to book it and then try to edit it to add a second name.

You may need to book it as 2 separate reservations - one to use the cert and one for the cash/points. Can you book a one night res for the cert? Then maybe reduce the other reservation by one night - so you'd have the arrangement you want. If you can do that, then I'd call the reservation line and ask them if they can merge the two reservations (be sure they are for the same room type).

Thank you for the info! I will just call in as I'm also linked with my parents who are in the same situation :faint:

Worst comes to worst we just use the certificate for a different trip as I know it will be used at SOME point before it expires.

Congrats to your son....both my son and daughter played travel hockey...lots of ways to earn points with all the various expenses related to it

I went in to edit the reservation and see if I could put my grandpa's name on their... and it had a message about contacting Marriott CS to redeem your points in someone else's name as a "gift" <-- Their quotations

Pennzoil's 'free $5 gift card offer' on DoC's site is giving me a headache. has anyone else tried to get one?

I imagine the site is slammed and that's why. I entered 2 hours ago and finally got my code to spin. Now I'm getting the 504 internal service error.

Also, I've used DH's CIP multiple times including out of state at hotels without him being there and never had an issue.

When I had DH apply for the CSP, I had him get an AU card in my daughter's name for the extra 5k points. I then used the AU card at a high end boutique in NY and got no grief at all for using a card that wasn't in my name.

Agree. My DH's hilton biz is in my wallet and he isn't aware he even has a hilton biz. :rolleyes1

This is exactly my husband with his CIP. It's in my wallet, and he has totally forgotten he has it. I was trying to distinguish between his CIP and CIC the other day (in my constant efforts to get him to use the right cards), and he responded with "What? I only have one Ink card." Well, yes, that's true I guess, since I've commandeered the other.

So, I just found out that DS19 and DD17 will have the same Spring Break next year. (this year it was 2 different weeks). So, excited to plan a trip and not have to worry about taking either of them out of school. DS is currently at our local Community College and DD is now a Senior in High School. So, next fall DS will be going to a 4 year college and DD Will be going away also. So, who knows when the dates will line up again.

So, currently I have about 220,000 UR's (after CIP Spend on DH's card), 431,000 Marriott and about 175,000 Southwest. Kind of want to hoard the UR's for later and hoping to get CIP for me later this year. I have CP for SW until end of this year and DH has until end of next year. So, only 3 flights to pay for.

So, one of the places I am lookint at is the Marriott Stellaris in Aruba. Has anyone been there? Looks awesome from the pics. We have been to Aruba a few times on cruises so only for a day. We would have to fly from MSP to FLL then FLL to Aruba and back in order to fly SW. And of course the times don't match up to fly both places the same day. So, now looking at maybe the AMEX Hilton Businesss card with the 125,000 bonus. Figured we could use that for the 1 night there and back in FLL. Any other suggestions or ideas.

Also looking for any other ideas for WARM places to go using the points I have. Thanks.

Just an FYI, I see there are some DPs on Reddit about the Hilton Amex Biz and problems with being given a personal card despite applying for a business card. Several people have reported that when doing a dummy booking on Hilton's website to generate the $50 statement credit, the person will apply for a business card and be approved for a business card (even receiving an instant number to use) and are sent a personal card and the card is appearing as personal on their credit reports. I did the booking on Hilton's website (actually made a real booking) and the $50 statement credit business offer and received a business card, but just something to be aware of. Might just be better off using a support link or applying through the regular website if you're worried about this!

Still stuffed from breakfast, so round #2 at Timberline was going to consist of a large glass of Benzinger Cab (which is actually decent, unlike the mimosa I left behind)... and then the guy next to me ordered the lemon dessert. Will power out the window! (It’s ok imho, would order again on Priority Pass but not if I was paying cash.)

After our breakfast, we left last fall with 3 takeout cheesecakes.

Thank you! Good to know, $50 isn't worth risking finally getting out of LOL/24 later this year!

Maybe not online? I'm sure if you call they can straighten it out. Are all nights available for points booking right now? Personally I would think it'd do just like you thought, but maybe if a points night was missing it went straight to cash for all?

But the phone reps used to stich together all kinds of bookings for us before.

You may need to book it as 2 separate reservations - one to use the cert and one for the cash/points. Can you book a one night res for the cert? Oh my goodness, what a headache trying to get that resolved! Apparently the category of the hotel we are staying at has changed categories thus adding 5,000 more points needed per night for the reservation. I was on hold for quite some time as it sounded like there might be an issue. I was refreshing my reservation online and it was showing I now owed 125k points for my reservation vs. the 100k that I owed prior and 80k was what I was SUPPOSED to paying after all was said and done (including 5th night free and free anniversary night).

I'm STILL not sure it is right  The email confirmation says I have 85k+ points balance (what it should be) but my online account says 65k+ (even after refreshing and logging out and back in). The email also says 180k redemption points :crazy2: But should read 80k. Holy smokes, I didn't think it'd be this complicated.

Anyone have any idea how long it should take to see those 20k points back in my account? I just don't care to call back right now (7 month old baby is not cooperating :sad2:).

When we came back from AUA to MSP we were able to connect through BWI and make it back in one day. When we flew down we went through FLL and spent the night at one of the Hyatts for 8,000 points. I found when I did a rental car as soon as I had my flights the rental was cheap. I have also gotten better prices with my rental cars with UR. You will go through immigration on the AUA side so a shorter layover worked fine. We did get to the airport early with immigration in mind. There is a nice PP lounge in AUA, nothing special but it was nice to relax.

The other warm place I have traveled to is Costa Rica. We loved the hanging bridges in the clouds. There would be fun things to do there with active young adults. I felt like there were more things to do in Costa Rica than in Aruba, but i'm hoping to return to both places. My niece and her family went zip lining, we did some snorkeling there, there were some evening sails and rodeos are a big thing there. I would say there was not any time when I didn't feel safe when we were there.

I love the library! I read a lot and I'd prefer to save the money I'd spend on books for things like travel etc.
I love to read too but typically avoid the library since so many hands have touched the books.

They do indeed. Mine is scheduled for 6/15 as our final SPG Biz spend!
