I love credit cards so much!

Is there any other way to say it? :p

Yes lol! I do have a Texas twang (very different than a southern drawl :) ). I didn't just grow up in TX, I grew up deep in south TX...Not sure an accent that thick ever really leaves you, though mine is much less than it used to be. I get asked frequently where I am from :)

I was going to reply to GZanta77’s question with “Southern drawl”! But the morning slipped away from me. I worked with a woman from Texas years ago, and she had the most delightful accent, stories and expressions!

if u know for sure what city your flying out and in, i can tell u which layout it is.
We will for sure be flying out of Des Moines, but it will either go into Chicago or Denver. I'm thinking it will most likely be Chicago. Then we will probably fly into HND.

Now sure if this is a post for here or the SB board. So DH has received his CIP now we need to meet the spending min. I was going to pay our Disney vacation with it. Now i am wonder if it is better to buy disney gift cards with the card at best buy and get the sb bonus or if it is too much of a hassle. Do gift card purchases count towards minimum?

What about with the chase freedom, do gift card purchases at safeway get the 5% cash back?

thanks. Swagbucks has a offer if you buy $50 at best buy you get $5 back +2 sb per/$ so in total it is about $6 back for every $50. I was doing this using a different CC to earn the rewards on the card. Then i would pay the CC off with what i earn in SB.

The only thing is that would be about $1K worth in gc. I will split these in to like 5 different visits.

And for the freedom i can purchase a safeway gift card for any amount and get the 5%

Yes, you can absolutely use your Chase Freedom card to buy gift cards at Safeway (or any of the Albertsons grocery store banners) and get 5% when grocery is the CF quarterly category. I did just that this quarter when I maxed out my CF for the quarter by purchasing a $500 Disney gift card at Albertsons (which owns Safeway) to apply towards my AP renewal.

You know, I didn't really know what Black Tap was all about so I just googled it and OMG that place looks really good! I'm looking forward to checking it out sometime!!

I had never heard of Black Tap before reading the comments on this thread, but it's making me hungry, lol. We're off to NYC tomorrow for our Harry Potter and the Cursed Child long weekend, so we might just have to check out Black Tap!

When you say “y’all,” does it come out with a Texas twang?

My grandchildren have only had McDonald's when I've gotten it - twice. (Does that make me a bad grandmother?) I know it made me very popular when they figured out it had apple slices and a toy!

Daughter is very careful not to feed a lot of sugar and processed stuff. I'm more in tune with moderation in all things.

My dh gets a kick out of the things I say...tells me he needs to get out his Texas translator to make sense of it all :rotfl2: It really is like it's own country with it's own language.

My friends will tell me that they can always tell when my TX family has been visiting because my accent gets thick again...all my fam was just here a couple of weeks ago. it was Texan overload so I'm still coming down from that lol!

Just remember to all of you who get grossed out by the cheapo hotels- the only time I've gotten bedbugs in years of staying at crummy hotels was at the $480 a night ski lodge in Jackson Hole, WY :) Fortunately, they did not travel with me for the rest of my 10 day vacation.

Have a great time!! I've seen some really good reviews of the play! And definitely try to check out Black Tap! There's one in midtown, which is the one we got into for lunch. There's another I think maybe in more of the SoHo area. That was the one that had a two hour wait on Saturday night. If you're going to go, try to set aside a little time as there will likely be a wait, though maybe it's calmed down now after a year. DH and I split a burger, which came with fries, and got a side of brussell sprouts and a milkshake. I think the milkshakes are something insane like $15, but it's about the experience and they really are good! We had more than enough food!

Just learned something new, Hyatt not only kills your points but also kills your whole membership account after inactivity. I thought I stayed at one 2016, but thinking back it was probably 2015 ish so I was trying to sign in to see how many points I just lost and there's no signing in. Called Hyatt and my membership was closed for inactivity. So I guess maybe it was longer than that? Don't think I've had that before, usually I sign in and just get sad at the big 0 sitting there. Guess I won't worry about Hyatt's for a while then :)

Really? I had the opposite experience. I lost the points but not the membership. I stayed in a Hyatt in Philadelphia when I took the kids to see the Liberty Bell and other stuff.

And, same with Hilton and Marriott - Marriott - I became a member while in Orlando about 20 years ago and never earned another point. When I applied for the Chase Marriott, they dug up my old number and put it on my account.

Hilton retrieved my number for me back in 2016 when I paid for a stay and then took my points back for no activity, but I still have the account.

I got hit with a Chase shutdown today. They approved me for the CIP on May 13 and I am about $2K into my $5K MSR. I logged into my account this morning and they have closed my account. I called and they wouldn't give me any information other than I will receive a letter that will provide more explanation. When I applied, I was at 4/24 and hadn't opened a Chase card since 2015. They did look at my personal Disney and IHG cards and they are both still open. I don't understand why they would approve me for the card and then close it down a couple of weeks later. I'll post more info from the letter once I receive it.

So frustrated.....

Do you have a real business?

Finally caught up! DD graduated this weekend + we had our party - so much fun! And also a little bitter sweet I must say. It will be very quiet here come August.

Odd thing happened on Plastiq - I logged into DS's account to make the car payment to our credit union (no problems last month) since I wanted to use up the rest of his fee free dollars. I received an error message stating "no mortgage payments with a Visa." Huh? So somehow our credit union is being recognized in Plastiq's system as a mortgage company??? I went over to DD's account and added the recipient and just paid it from there with no issues. Well, at least I don't think there was an issue. Will have to wait until sent to be sure. Very odd.

I thought it was weird too. And she only gave me the option to open a new one, I couldn't reactivate it. Maybe because it was only one stay? I got stuck there on a work trip, the senior on that trip did Hyatt so that's where we went. Since I didn't pay for it and there was some type of bonus going on I created an account and meant to keep it alive, but time flies! Before that when we stayed at Hyatt it was on hubby's account, which is probably closed now too since we only stayed a couple times many years ago at a hotel that turned into a Hyatt.

SPG had done it for hubby's "account" too, but I have no idea if he ever created an online account so I can't fault them there. It was probably about 8 years ago but he held on to the little paper card with his # number on it... actually the Hyatt one too! He brought that one to me a few weeks ago, if I haven't thrown it out for giggles and kicks I might call about his too :) But if they closed mine after a few years that one's been dead for quite some time then.

First of @Budzooka I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry. Please keep us updated! We'll try to figure this out.

There's a Shutdown Reports Megathread on /r/churning that asks about the factors that may have led to a shutdown.

There's also hope that you can plead your case with Chase and they'll reinstate your accounts. See https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8nh7l4/_/dzwibaz/?context=3 I've seen several DPs of accounts being reinstated after you explain, basically, you're opening new cards for their different benefits and bonuses; not because you're a "bust out" risk. You have 30 days to redeem or move any points from the affected card(s), so don't do anything rash and try to get your card(s) reopened first.

ahh, im glad to hear it is just your business card but sad your CIP got shut down. This is def not a bustout shutdown. The questions i asked is not gonna help in this case. On to why you got shut down on the business end, i have no idea.
ill ask my channels and see what i come up with.

Probably dumb question but is a typical shutdown where all accounts closed both business and personal. Is it triggered like this where there is an existing card and one day you just log in and it is closed? I have had the impression (maybe wrong) that a shutdown is triggered with applying for another chase card. I thought if you had them already and didn’t apply for another one you would be ok! I could deal with not having Chase cards to use but losing my stash of UR’s would be beyond horrible!

in most cases, accounts that close both business and personal is a result of a bustout. In @Budzooka case, this isnt it. its something else. This is something I have no clue about. have forward it to other forums who know better than me.

This thread moves quickly! Thought I'd ask again in case my post got lost in the mix of things, and again, apologies if this should be asked elsewhere:

Not sure if this is the place to ask so forgive me for my lack of knowledge :lovestruc I have a Marriott Card which comes with a free night. When I booked our upcoming reservation for D.C. (booked in February for July) our free night was not yet available. We are staying 6 nights using points for the 4 nights (stay 4 get one free) plus the certificate. How do I apply this now? I just logged onto my reservation and clicked Apply Certificate to this reservation and when I looked at the new charges it took away all of my points and showed room charges. Is this not possible to do?
