I love credit cards so much!

Rumor has it Plastiq is going to stop accepting personal Visas completely, presumably because Visa wants them to process everything as a cash advance. This could take effect as soon as tomorrow.

Sooooo, all my pending monthly payments will code cash advance!? I have a bunch scheduled b/c of the 1.75% promo thing I got. They are on the CIP though, so not a personal card. Why is VISA so difficult!? They should just be glad to get the money from the swipe, and in some peoples' cases, money from interest too. Shut up visa!

I imagine they'd either grandfather in the pending or recurring payments, or else not process them. If Plastiq is the one aiming to cut ties because Visa wants them to process charges as cash advances, I can't imagine they would allow anything to go through that way that was already in the system.

Seems inquiries to Plastiq are getting back mixed messages from they “hope it will be ‘very temporary’” (comment on DoC), to “we fully intend to continue to process personal Visa cards into perpetuity” (relayed on Reddit).

I agree with @peel that if this change does happen, already scheduled payments will either be grandfathered or declined.

I do wonder how long Visa’s been putting pressure on Plastiq, as personal Visa cards were excluded from DoC’s 1.75% fee promo.

Personally, I’ve only been using my CIP and Amex cards on Plastiq, and generally don’t need Plastiq to meet MSR on Chase’s Visa cards. As long as there are no changes there, I’ll just keep swimmin’.

(I’ll update the guide with any changes, of course.)

Typically those show up on a Tuesday 2-3 weeks after the person you referred is approved.

for me, it took about 2 weeks for it to show on ultimate rewards portal... and it post at statement end.

Thanks so much for confirming--that was my recollection. He was approved on May 18th, so I guess I'll give it another week for SM them.

I just got approved for the Barclay AA Biz 50k AA miles after a single purchase. It took awhile and I had to send in proof of my identity, I got a hard pull but i don’t think it is showing on my personal report yet. I’ll give it some time and update if it does.

Approval dance party!

Barclays is the one that sent you a letter requesting verification, right? (Or was it a denial letter?)

Couple questions on Global Entry for those who have it.

1. DH will be getting the CSR this fall. Can I get GE for myself with the travel credit, or does it have to be in his name?
2. If I can get the GE, does that normally give you TSA Precheck?
3. Does it work the same as regular Precheck in that it might extend to another person in your party if traveling together?

DH is Precheck and I think maybe every time we've flown together except once that I have also been Precheck thanks to him. I would like to get GE or Precheck for myself (preferably GE) and then hopefully have the Precheck coverage extend to my mom when we fly to NYC this December.

I know it's a lot of big ifs, but just wanted some guidance :) No point in getting Precheck for my mom for herself. I think this will be her fourth time flying in the last 18 years.

1. For the CSR it's a statement credit so it's just looking for the charge from the correct agency
2. Yes, as long as you have your KTN added to your ticket before check in. Although I think someone on the thread got it corrected when they saw it didn't print out on the boarding pass.
3. This I can't help on because both times I've flown since getting it we were all on different reservations. So as expected I got my Precheck and hubby went regular. My FIL got Precheck when he was traveling with us but he was on a diff conf # so I don't think it was me; personally I think it was his age, he's over 70, but I forgot to check with him to see if he got it on his last flight solo.

Just another 2 cents :)

Yes, despite new terms against p2p payments like Venmo counting for MSR and earning points, I’ve seen several DPs recently on /r/churning that say Venmo transactions counted.

I would not use Venmo to send money to a spouse or significant other, or anyone sharing the same address. I saw a report just a few days ago that said sending a PayPal payment to a spouse with an Amex got his cards shut down and triggered a financial review. He was later reinstated, but still. PayPal owns Venmo, so tread lightly.

So, if one of my aunts lives at different address and uses Venmo, I could send a payment to her using Amex? She is a TA and so I could, theoretically, be paying her for a vacation? Or is that too risky?

Sounds like it would work.

For those of you who are skilled at maximizing the value of purchasing gift cards, what would be the best way to purchase itunes gift cards? My brain is only coming up with Office Depot at 5% URs with the Ink Plus, or checking Costco -- I feel like I should be able to do better.

Plastiq, and the way certain transactions code in general, can be so unpredictable and subject to change that I’d suggest if you have the means to pay something, especially while CIP is still coding for 3x, do it sooner rather than later. There are many ways to meet spend, but what works today might not be around a few months from now.
I'll probably start looking at back up ideas to meet the $8k spend. I'm not eligible until December anyways. It's just that unless something drastically changes, I don't know if we can support $8k, plus I'd like to try and get DH the SW CP for 2019-2020. After the dust settles with the car we just paid off, and we get it sold to the in-laws and all the cards paid, the next thing we'll be throwing extra money at is my car loan. I owe just over $14k now. The very earliest we'd have enough is August. Being able to pay it through Plastiq would make a double dip a no brainer.

But you probably had all of this noted in your spreadsheet

No luck on the Chase account for bank bonus. So much for nationwide. I see Citibank is Nationwide, has anyone done that one?

Chase is hit or miss for the "nationwide". Some people can open it online and others, even in the same city/zip code, are told to go in branch to do it. Unless there's a lot of lying on the interwebs (never ) Chase is perplexing and haven't found a rhyme or reason yet on why it works for some and not others.

Day two is better. We did the aquarium which was fun. We also walked around and explored the resort a bit and watched the Dolphins. I must have pulled a back muscle so I didn’t want to swim today. Idk how I’m 23 and sprained a back muscle, I wasn’t doing any strainuous activity. If it’s not better by tomorrow I’ll take an ibuprofen and deal.

We probably won’t be back, but it’s not a bad choice. I’d recommend the Cove if you could swing the extra points. They have a private pool for adults and a private beach. The Royal towers are probably best if you have kids since it’s in the middle of the resort, but it’s probably on par with a Disney moderate resort.

...

The beach was pretty crowded, but the water is so perfect. I can’t believe how blue it is. The beach seems public so we will probably swim in the beach lagoon tomorrow.

Sorry to hear of your back trouble, sometimes it just happens, I was 21 with my first one for no reason and no good stories to show for it dang it! Hopefully the ibuprofen works, it does for me as long as I take it every 4 hours. The Cove seemed to be the place to try when I was researching it, glad to hear it looks as good as it seems. All beaches in the Bahamas are public but resort amenities like lounge chairs are off limits, so some resorts are more aggressive with keeping non-resort guests out of the whole area than others. Hopefully tomorrow is better all around for ya!

You can!

iTunes gift cards frequently sell for 15% off through PayPal Digital Gifts/eBay and Costco (my two preferred merchants). The good ol’ days of 20% off and even 25% off during Black Friday type sales are gone. I only very rarely see iTunes gift cards selling for more than 15% these days. I purchased $100 worth for $85 a few weeks ago from eBay/PPDG and paid with Freedom for 5x UR.

I’d expect eBay/PPDG to run another deal before the end of June. That’s when the quarter ends, and they like to juice up their sales numbers before then.

DoC, SD, and DansDeals always posts when iTunes gift cards go on sale. There’s a twitter account that tracks iTunes deals too: http://www.twitter.com/itunescarddeals

Costco has them for like 14% off at one point but you need to buy like $200 at once. PayPal sometimes have them for 15%. Sometimes staples and Office depot has them for 15% off as well. nothing on sale currently though. You might have to wait!

They sent me a verification letter, but for my SO the online checker said he was denied but he later got the letter too. He hasn’t gotten an approval email yet.

I am so sorry that your cats got sick from the vaccine. I had never heard that this could happen, or thought to research different kinds of vaccines. My husband is very much against our cats getting shots now that they are older (they have always been totally indoor cats), mostly because one of our cats truly hates to be put in her carrier -- it's a trauma for us and for her to take her to the vet, so I actually have let it slide for a few years.
Thank You!
Only one of my cats got VAS (cancer at injection site) from the rabies vaccine. Another poster here had 2 cats with it. My vet (at the time) told me the odds are 1 in 10 million. I believe that to be greatly underestimated bc in the 13 years since Max was diagnosed, I've spoken with so many people who had dogs or cats get this and I know I haven't spoken to anywhere close to 10 million pet owners!

I have an appt for my current "lumpy" cat to have lump #2 needle biopsied tomorrow morning. His lumps are on his chin, so not possibly associated with a vaccine and he's been "lightly" (reasonably) vaccinated since kittenhood. Max's tragedy taught me a lot, the hard way. My current 4 cats have benefited from what I've learned.

Hi peeps! First, I wanted to come over here before anywhere else to say thank you to all who posted on the ABd thread. I did not expect to wake up this morning and discover y’all were gonna make me cry. Crying out of only one eye is definitely weird so thanks for that novel experience. You guys know how much I love those. Please know that despite the initial scare of “holy smokes these are stroke symptoms, I teach about this everyday and it’s happening to me” I am relieved it’s only Bell’s Palsy. Adventures by Disney has my eternal gratitude for everything they did! I didn’t come all the way to Asia to have anything other than an amazing time so that is what I am doing!

In the spirit of silver linings and novel experiences: I am bound to lose weight that I gained on this trip because eating and drinking when one side of your face doesn’t work is too challenging and I’m too lazy to make any extra effort. I’m not as reticent to post selfies when my smile is crooked anymore. I now have a legitimate excuse to look like a pirate and wear an eye patch! This is fun. China airport security wasn’t as amused. To make this thread related: I used 15,000 BA Avios to book my flight from China to Tokyo today in business class. Real money pricing was over $700 per person. The lounge we are enjoying has food that comes from Jade de Jardin which is mainland China’s first Michelin star rated restaurant!

Oh, and Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean was EPIC!!!!

Love you guys!!! :grouphug: Peace out!

In between deals and sales from EBay/PPDG, I usually use the Raise (discounted GC retail marketplace) mobile app since PP is a payment option. When Raise runs a sale with some advertised promo code for an additional 5-10% off, that’s usually the best time to stack savings since at a minimum you can get iTunes codes for ~5% off generally speaking without being handcuffed to specific denominations since they have everything usually from $10-$100 nor having to trek to a grocery/office supplies store.

Plastiq just flagged two of my car payments for review. I've got a copy of the regular statement (the most recent one is showing as already paid) and the payoff amount letter. Do you think one is better than the other or just send both?

Noob UR question, but do UR points expire, and if so, when? I'm starting the process of stock piling UR to pay for a trip in 2022 (my 40th bday!!) and I'm wondering if I am starting too early?
