I love credit cards so much!

Thank you! Amex is picking up the pieces to my broken heart. I haven’t just been rejected... I have called recon three times and I’m still getting rejected.

Ok, that really stinks and adds to the rejection factor (as if just being rejected isn't painful enough!). We are still awaiting the letter. What was the reasoning Chase gave you?

I’ve been approved for the CIC!
:cool1::banana:party::bounce::jumping3::Pinkbounc:cool1:

Applied this morning and went pending for about 16 hours. For the record, this is my third Chase biz card as a sole proprietor: (1) CIP $16k CL, 6/2017; (2) Marriott Biz $5k CL, 2/2018; (3) CIC $12k CL, 5/2018.

I know you use the CIP, but do you use the Marriott Biz alot too? Wonder if frequent use ups the chances of getting a 3rd card.

I read on DoC about a 3.3% checking account at Heritage Bank, up to $25K balance, need 10+ debit card transactions (it didn't mention a minimum transaction amount), one direct deposit or ACH per month, and enroll in e-statements.
Wonder if that is the heritage bank our mortgage is through. Off to look it up...

1) Do you have a player 2 that has (or can get a CSR)? If so, you could refer them to CSR (and CSP double dip maybe) and downgrade both cards to CF/CFU.

2) Do you have a CIP? If so that would come into play in step 3...

3) You'll want to determine if you'd prefer to have the CSR or CSP long term (and that isn't necessarily a black/white decision - definitely a math question) and then downgrade the other card. If you have a CIP that could come into play here on this decision too.
I do have a willing DW that’s ok with helping out. DW has the CSP almost a year ago. So DW won’t be able to get the CSR for another year because of the same family/24 month rule?
Yes, I got the CIP in March. I have used the travel credit so far on the CSR. Have never flown until our WDW trip in November. Plan on Hawaii for 2020. So we are not seasoned travelers. We stay at a hotel 1-2 times a year. I can also PC to the Cf/Cfu. I already have a cf and it all depends I the quarters if I max them out or not. Now that I’m in on the game I have not had a problem maxing it out. As always thank you.

I didn’t get the letter yet. I had to call because an AU card is still on my report so I thought that was the issue. They are saying my business is too new and my other business card is too recent. I got the other business card in November. I even offered to move credit over.

Uh oh. What happened??

I think I went over the $3k MSR by about $18 in March. It’s been sitting in my desk drawer; haven’t used it since.

ETA: I did preemptively lower the CL on one of my cards by $10k a month before. Maybe that helped?

Ok this is somewhat of a challenge for me to type out my thought process on this but I'll do my best...

So if you downgrade the CSR to a CF or CFU you are losing the 1.5x redemption option. Here's the factors that would warrant consideration:
  • IF you plan to transfer URs to a partner (i.e. Southwest, Hyatt, Marriott) then the 1.5x vs. 1.25x means nothing to you
  • IF you plan to redeem URs through the portal using the 1.50x then that's a different story
  • You can get a CSR (your wife can) in approx. a year so you would be without the 1.5x option during that time if you downgraded
  • You can downgrade the CSP to a CF/CFU with no worries since you have a CIP and it also has the 1.25x redemption option
  • You also need to factor in the CSR AF (I'd use $150 since you get the travel credit) and keeping it needs to generate greater than that in value
Truthfully it comes down to (1) how do you plan to redeem URs (2) how many URs do you have/plan to redeem (3) do you plan to redeem using the 1.50 option in the next year.

If I knew every fact of your situation, there probably is a definitive right answer but I'd have to ask so many it'd be crazy hahaha! You probably wouldn't be drastically wrong to keep the CSR...OR to downgrade the CSR. I would definitely downgrade the CSP since CIP gives the same primary benefit (IMO).

Hmm, well that might be my dh's rejection too. He got his CIP last October. Thought was was plenty of time but maybe not.

Yeah just looked 25k for Silver. Do you know if I got Silver how likely id be to get a first class upgrade. It says,
  • Complimentary first-class upgrades from most discounted fares starting 24 hours before departure.
I’m assuming 24 hours before departure first class seats won’t be available.

Also , do you know what this means
  • Unlimited complimentary first-class upgrades at booking from full fare economy tickets

DH and I did get an upgrade to comfort plus from regular economy. Better than nothing I guess.

The main value of the card is the straight miles. Flash sale right now to Europe for 45k. We went to Maui for 35k on a flash sale. Delta does not have its award chart so you either have to do mock bookings or keep an eye out for the flash sales they have every month. The other value of the card for me is the yearly companion certificate. We fly 5 of us to WDW way too often so between DH and us now we have 4 yearly companion certificates with the 4 different cards. The companion certificate easily offsets the annual fee. If you wanted to keep the card a year my understanding is that after the certificate is issued you can cancel the card then and the certificate will still be valid. I have never tried it though as for us they are keeper cards. As a Delta hostage I do what I can!

It might just be me. SO got his two Biz card like 40 days apart. Chase makes no sense.

An upgrade is something. If I were to go for silver status I’d have to MS on the card. I’ll see if I can calculate the fees of the MS and see if it’s worth it. I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep the card yet, the bonus is huge and is worth the effective $95 fee for a year.

I was just sorting through our credit card offers from the mail, and shredding the ones that are past the invitation date - because mostly they're not exciting/junk ones like AAA or SW 40k offer/Citi AA mailers that keep coming. Just realized DH got a AMEX Platinum mailer for 100k MRs for $5k spend. *goes to re-examine plan I was working on*

The 9-digit Citi AA mailers that half of /r/churning is using to amass hundreds of thousands of AA miles?!

The mythical 100k MR Platinum offer that I’ve spent hours trying to trick my way to pulling up online?!?!

Seriously though, check out the expiration date and see about working that into your plans. My first Plat took 2 statements to show up on my credit reports and my MB Plat from April looks like it’ll do the same (first statement already cut, but it’s still not on my credit reports). That’s likely two months after you apply that you can do what you gotta do before Chase counts the Plat against DH. There are DPs that Amex may still honor the offer after the expiration date if you call in and reference the mailer, but YMMV.

could be a difference of auto approval vs human approval. that would be my best guess. Reading the shutdown thread, their reasons are most of the time are very generic and could be a whole lot of other things.

heh, reading about those makes me laugh because they sign their whole family up(dog included) for them. Def a RIP Chase cards if you follow that path.
@amalone1013 i think those AA codes go for like $10 a code maybe... haha.

Interesting, maybe I’ll wait 30 days once this AU is removed and lower limits hoping to get auto approved.

Also, I’m a crazy person making up names for AA accounts and I get nothing. lol maybe my mailman is a churner and takes them.

Waiting for my CIC denial letter is so annoying. I just want the letter already, so I can decide if I'm going to call or not. Ugh.

I've been reading up on the experiences here from those of you who got tickets through Chase Cruise and Tour Dept. I'm debating on whether we should use our UR points for our room in October or use them for tickets and pay cash for the room. We're planning to upgrade our tickets to APs again, so I'm trying to work out the math and see what would be the better option. Has anyone here successfully used tickets from Chase to upgrade to APs? I'm assuming it should work fine since they tickets would be coming from Disney, but I was just curious if any of you have first hand experience.

Congrats! This DP is also encouraging to me, because my stats are similar. I have CIP $12K CL opened 9/2017, and Marriott Biz $5K CL opened 2/2018. I lowered CLs on a few of my personal Chase cards last Friday as well to prep for applying for CIC. I don't know if that's enough time for those lower limits to show on my credit report but at least they will be in Chase's records if I need to recon. I'm waiting until Friday because I got SPG personal on 4/18, so on Friday it will be 30 days.

The 0/30 rule for Chase business cards applies only to Chase applications made in the past 30 days, so the personal SPG doesn’t affect that. Did you receive a hard pull for the SPG? Has it reported to your credit report yet? (Amex didn’t do a hard pull on my personal SPG and hasn’t reported it to my credit reports even after my first statement closed.) If no to both, Chase won’t know about it and you should probably try to sneak in a CIC application before Chase factors the SPG against you. But I can understand waiting to stretch out the 3 months to meet MSR.

Ugh, fried graduation brain. Paid my June mortgage using my CIP rather than spg biz :crazy2: That was supposed to finish off the spg biz. Already processed so now I’ve got to do something different but not sure what yet!!

At least you'll get a big chuck of URs out of it?

I did this too...but on purpose! I just couldn't pass up the UR. I did one mortgage payment on the SPG Biz and it killed me to pay the fee so I found other ways to meet the MSR. Luckily my work will let me buy material for projects with my card and then reimburse me.

I’d get the CIC or CIP next. Maybe both lol if you get the CIP and then refer your DH that’s 190,000 UR.

How quickly can I apply for CIC/CIP if I got CSP 1/18 and SPG Amex 2/18? And both (all) my CC have fairly high limits (like $25k and above). Should I start to reduce those first? Utilization rate is 0% right now. Also, should I see if I can change my Chase Freedom Unlimited to just a Chase Freedom to get these 5% off categories. I spend nearly $1,000/mo in groceries alone, and about $600-$800 in gas. I'd love to get 5% back on that...
