I love credit cards so much!

So the new Marriott Premier Plus card advertises the 100k points as "limited time" promotion. Any speculation on how limited is the time period? You think they'll hose it come August when the program officially rolls out? ETA: Well the program changes officially going into effect.

I'm interested in it for myself just to grab 100k points but I rather have a CIC first for the 50k sign up bonus. If I am successful at getting that I need to hold off of Chase for a little while.

Right now I'm a total of 4/24 (and it's actually 4/12!) but 2 of those were the CSR/CSP not yet 30 days ago. So if I get the CIC soon, it'd be 3/60 (technically) for Chase and a bit scary. What are the odds if I hold off at least 3-4 months the Marriott offer is still around, or at least something similar? Trying to plan out the rest of the year to figure out what spends we can reasonable do.

I also went ahead and scheduled one of my student loan payments to start being paid by Plastiq every month and canceled my autodraft. I just made another $400 student loan payment and it's currently pending with 3x UR on my CIP, so I feel fairly comfortable doing this. I'll probably pay this loan off at the end of the summer (also with CIP), but at least I'll get a couple extra URs out of it until then. After that, I might switch my Fed Loan Servicing loans to Plastiq too... we'll see.

I don’t have any “insider” info...but I’d be really surprised if that offer goes away in 3 months. I’d actually be surprised if it goes anywhere before the end of the year - with all the changes happening in August, they will likely want to keep positive energy behind this new card. :)

I can’t get it until October (24 months since my last bonus) and I doubt they’ll still be offering 100,000 by then. I wish I knew as well though. I may just upgrade mine then cancel.

DH has a $12,000 limit on both CIP and CIC now. I'm planning to double dip him later this fall so I'm thinking I'll probably lower those limits this summer, just as a preemptive measure.

That must be some kind of standard... My CIC/CIP both are $12k.

This is what I was thinking too, but I've not been following bonuses so I have no idea what trends exist. They could have no discernable logic for all I know :) If that's the case then I'm good because I could pick it up much later in the year and use holiday spending to knock it out while cooling off for a while. That would be my best case scenario.

Yeah, that's tough. Personally I'm pulling for it to a least be around until Oct because that would give them a couple months past the roll out to keep enticing people into the new scheme. But I wonder if depending on how cancellations and upgrades go between now and the awards chart release determines what bonus is out. Could be they lost more people or didn't get as many upgrades as they planned and they sweeten it after Aug. Or people are still ok and they don't think they need more numbers and they lower it to 80k or something around that time. I've got fingers crossed for both of us it holds 100k min at least until Oct :)

:offtopic: For those that sell kids stuff on Facebook, EBay, etc., do you sell seasonally or as you clean stuff out? I have winter clothes and Halloween costumes DS has outgrown. Trying to decide whether I post them now or wait until fall.

I wanted to join in on the approvals so I applied for the CIC. I got denied after recon, the line was going to 7-10 days because an AU card isn’t removed. He still denied me because I just got the CIP. I got in in November 2017! SO got his CIP in March and then got a CIC in April no problem. I have bad luck. :badpc:
He said I can call reconsideration tomorrow to try again.

To make myself feel better I applied SO to the Amex Delta Biz. Instant approval. Amex is the best. (the RAT team makes my life difficult, but I really love them.)

Sorry about the denial but congrats on the Delta Biz. When Chase spurns you, AMEX will always be there for you to pickup the pieces!

Chase doesn't seem to change bonuses frequently. (With exception to these recent leaks of CSP 60k and CFU 3% - and those were never publicly marketed from what I know). Typically when they put a bonus out there they commit to it for awhile (unlike AMEX who seems to like to do the short term bumps).

I wait and sell most of it seasonally. There is one brand that goes like hotcakes (TBBC) and that stuff I post immediately. Alot of people in FL and such buy the spring/summer styles year round.
For everything else I keep 2 bins in a spare room and toss stuff in as I clean out, then post all at once...late summer (fall/winter) and late winter (spring/summer).

Oh, it was so good I forgot that fast , but checking on AmEx offers after @amalone1013 posted the Sam's Club, I got a spend 600+ on AmEx travel and get 10k MR points.

"Get 10,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $600+ for a prepaid hotel booking online at amextravel.com by 07/15/2018."

Not as good as the last one I got, but didn't end up using, as I'm pretty sure that was 500+ spend for the same. But as always if you were looking to do a prepaid booking anyway, extra points aren't bad. This was on my Everyday card.

And not very travel related, but I think this is new too, a Crayola offer for spend $30 get $10 back. Can do one or more transactions to hit the threshold and it's good through 9/15.

I'm not spurned by chase (knock on wood) but just slowing down with them, and can't do amex either due to 2/90. Ugh. Just farming my current cards til June.

I got spg biz on 3/1 and spg personal 4/16...so can I app for the next amex on 6/2?

Whaaaat?! I know you said his name is Russell, but he must have been the model for Dug in Up - the resemblance is seriously unbelievable! They have the exact same posture/look.

Haha he is named after Russell from Up, even thought he looks exactly like Dug! We just thought Russell sounded like a better name for a dog than Dug. Really, he has the personality combination of Dug and Russell!

We also have a girl cat named Kevin.

And another cat named Mrs. Norris... who also has the personality of Mrs. Norris.

You can use that card anywhere Visa is accepted. The reason the CIP is being recommended is that it's 80,000 point bonus plus the $5k in spend will be worth over $1,000 towards your trip (just for signing up for 1 card)!

I don't spend $5,000 on a CC in 3 months either, but I make these bonuses work - here's some ideas:
  • First off - we put EVERYTHING on the card that can be put on it...groceries, gas, etc...
  • Prepay your cable bill or cell phone (if we pay 3 months ahead on our cable that can knock out $500
  • Pay utilities with a CC even if there's a small fee. I paid 5 months of electric and it cost my a $4.50 fee...well worth it for the return I got on the card
  • Buy gift cards ahead for places you'll shop at (i.e. the Grocery Store, Walmart, Target) then use those after the 3 months is up
  • Buy Visa Gift Cards and then use those after the 3 months is up
  • As long as you have the cash now to pay the card off...you're basically shifting spend from later to now to hit the bonus.
EDIT: if the $5k spend is a serious roadblock/problem though don't feel like you HAVE to get this card. I highly recommend it...but it's not worth stressing over either. However, without this card it would be a little more challenging to hit your travel goals since it is the most lucrative bonus out there :)
Those are really good suggestions!! Thank you! Would the one CIP be enough for us or would we have to get different Chase cards as well? I'm just worried about spending the $5000 plus more to get the bonuses.
