I love credit cards so much!

It would be too early because these points wou ld post in 2018. You want them all to post in 2019 to get CP for 2019-2020. That's one of my plans for my DH :)
Thanks. I know I have that written down somewhere. If I recall correctly we should apply around Oct., make ms by the end of Dec so points post in Jan correct? (We just want to make sure those points don't post in Dec.)

I think you are fine if you pay attention to your statement dates and earn it in the one that ends in January. Personally, I would feel more comfortable just waiting till after Jan 1 to meet the spend. Too many reports of people accidently getting points posted in the wrong year because they didn't post like they thought they would.

If that new Barclaycard card has an airline transfer option to AA, I will be going for it! I will also be crossing my fingers that Barclay isn’t implementing a */24 rule for this one. I’d like to also grab that Mercedes Amex Plat card before it disappears. So I’m also crossing my fingers that the new Barclay card comes out in time for me to apply for it and the Amex Mercedes Plat card before it goes away.

Rumor is the MB Plat will stop taking applications 3/31 (tomorrow)!

I plan to have DH get the SW Plus - apply in December. Begin to spend in Jan. I want the other points he gets from meeting minimum spend to post in 2019 too. For the current offer he would have to spend $2000 to get the bonus. He will get his regular points on this $2000 as well. I want them to post in 2019. Once he meets minimum spend he will apply for the SW Premiere. I know it may take a little longer to get the CP but I hope to have all his spend on these two cards go towards the points for the CP.

Correct. As soon as your Dec statement closes, (mine were 12/1 and 12/4), you can finish the MSR. I left around $500 on each card and met the spend in mid Dec since I wanted it to be far out enough that the points were sure to post in Jan. The only snag was the points from 1/1 took forever to post!

Yes - we had a little club going for a while waiting for those dang points to post. It was great to be meeting spend with random Christmas shopping and therefore not missing out on UR points (lots of my MSR gets taken care of with work travel and I hate putting it on a card that doesn't get 3x!)

Forgot to mention, I did notice last night the referral offer on SPG Personal exp 4/15, public one doesn't have an exp date at all. What happens after 4/15 to the referral offer/card in general absolutely idk.

my 2018 property tax bill finally posted yesterday. So I referred DH for the AMEX Delta Biz. Am I correct that I should not do the entire $3k spend, by paying the taxes through Plastiq, or do you think it would be ok? And if not, how much should I leave for organic spending to make it work.

Thanks!

I would do the Plastiq and see if the bonus posts. If the card is like the personal the bonus posts fairly quickly. If you don't see the bonus start using organic spend. (Can you pay your prop tax in parts? I called our county's office and they told me they don't accept partial payments.)

Something to point on the CP for anybody chasing it: Earning it in January is nice...on paper. But what really matters is when do you plan to use it. If you don't have a trip with a flight planned until say April of 2019, then whether you earn it in January or March probably means little to you. Of course, perhaps you also wanted to use those points to book the flights too and there can be other nuance to the timing but I figured I'd point that out. Alternatively, if you had 3 flights planned in February, the goal to earn a CP in Jan means a whole lot more to you.

We always have gone to Orlando in late January and the years we were chasing a CP I just resigned myself to not using the CP for that trip since it took too much work to make it happen. Now that was easy for me to do since I was still getting the flight free with points I had, lol.

Duh, that makes sense. I think we can, I would be paying all of first half and part of the 2nd half. I had called in December to see if we could prepay a portion (because of the new tax laws, didn't end up doing it) and they said I could. I will double check for sure. I could pay the whole year I guess, which would more than cover the spend, but I'd have to take some money from someplace else I had set aside and put it back in a couple of months.

Do you have to go the Plastiq route...(I admittedly have never used it). I just pay our property taxes through the county and school collector websites and pay their CC fee (which I assume is probably roughly identical to Plastiq).

Yep, our county doesn't accept AMEX. Big shocker huh?
Oh ok, ours does so I didn't really think about that. Something to point out - even when places say they don't accept AMEX I have tried it at times and it works. AMEX has worked on their fees in order to be accepted at more places and I've noticed some places haven't updated their website or signage to indicate that. (not necessarily indicating that's the case in your instance, but more just for general knowledge to everybody)

We usually only fly in the summer months. But yes, if I knew I was definitely traveling Jan-May, I would have a different strategy. Even if I booked something in Feb for the summer, I always book with points so I could cancel my flight and be added as DH's companion when he gets the CP.
It would be easy for us to meet minimum spend on both cards just by paying most of our bills with the cards. I would then put everything we use CC for on the SW cards until he earns the CP. I think I could safely say he would have the CP sometime in March. Now is SWRR comes out with a better sign on bonus in the fall I would apply sooner.

I just got an email from Chase to use Apple Pay on my FU April 1 through April 30th 5 times and get 1,000 points. Not as good as having Apple Pay being in the 2nd quarter with the Freedom but I will take it!

Has anyone heard any more about this? I've read that it's targeted and I've also read people are thinking it might be anyone who has CSR, CSP, CF and CFU. I'd like to think DH and I could make a few extra points with this promotion.

Yeah it's such a common thing I see in places - people are freaking out over getting 2 full years of CP, gotta time it just right, etc... and they don't have a flight until July...:confused3:rolleyes1

I actually feel bad as I've seen stories where people messed up and points from 1 card posted in December and they didn't have a flight planned until May or beyond. It shows you how people get caught up in the excitement and the bloggers and aren't thinking for themselves...

I didn't realize it was targeted until I saw it here. I got it and only have a CF and CSR. Mine was for using my CSR for Apple Pay.
