I love credit cards so much!

@KSR0330. Or if you have CIP, since CIP also allows redemption of points through the UR portal with 25% added value (same as CSP).
Does CIC have the same benefit. Or it’s just cash so you have to transfer for UR points? Sorry this one hasn’t been on my radar before .

The CIC is a "cash back" card that earns UR points, but doesn't give you the ability to transfer them to partners or redeem them for travel through the UR portal. You'll have to combine the points from your CIC to a CIP, CSR, or CSR to take advantage of transfers to partners or redemption for travel through the portal.

ou'd want to space them out over 2 years though - you can't get cards too fast or you risk banks either 1) denying you or 2) shutting you down and closing your accounts.

This wasn't directed at me, but it's got me thinking. I just got three cards in the last thee months--the AmEx Business Gold, the AmEx SPG Business, and the Chase Ink Business Preferred. Should I hold off on getting any more cards for a while?

I already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, and I just found out that DH has the CSP also, so neither of us can double dip the CSP and the CSR. My next planned move had been to double dip DH, so now that that plan is out, I'm not sure what to do next.

So my questions are, do I wait a while before applying for another card? If so, how long? And what card should be next? My next travel goal is Germany for four people in March 2019, cheap seats, flying out of Tampa, Orlando, Miami, or Ft. Lauderdale (so just about all airlines covered). I'd like to cover as much of flights and lodging as possible using UR and Marriott/SPG points. If I'm short on points, my DH can make up the difference. He practically lives in Marriotts and has over a million Marriott points. He is "frugal" with his points, however, so I'd like to earn as much as possible myself since this trip is kind of "my thing."

Other than the above, I also have the AmEx Preferred (I think it's called the Blue Cash Preferred) and the American Airlines AAdvantage Aviator, as well as a handful of store cards.

I applied for the CF for my husband ( used link from Dischurner) and got 7-10 day response. This surprised me as his last Southwest card got immediate approval with $15,000 limit.
The only thing I can think of is <60 days between applications which I haven't heard of being an issue. He would HATE calling so I will just keep checking the mail. I had planned to PC his CSR in May and then maybe have 2 CFs with the option of 5X point categories.

I’d hold off for a bit. When did your DH get the CSP if it’s been over 24 months you can cancel and do the double dip. If not maybe refer him to the Amex cards while you take a break? Does he he have the CIP? You can refer him to that it would be an extra 100k UR.

If you don’t have CSR, yes. If you have CSR, no point in both.
If you do not have another premium UR earning card like CSR or CIP then yes. If you do, then the CSR is often a better bet for long term depending on your travel habits.

No silly q’s here :) Assuming you are not holding a CSR... At the end of year one sit down and see how many points did you earn? (Subtract the sign up bonus associated points, add in any points you would transfer from other Chase cards.) Compare the cash value (1 rate) vs travel value (1.25 rate). That’s a roughly calculated minimum expected return on the CSP for the next year.Add into your calculations any value you see in the CSP trip insurance benefit. Now you have a rough estimate on if the card is worth keeping beyond year 1 to you.
*I’m assuming you aren’t planning on transferring points to travel partners & have already spent your sign up bonus*

Many people who don’t have the CSR find value in keeping the CSP.

Wow! Thanks for all of the responses. I just got the CSP. I didn't want to double dip because I would have had trouble with the MSR. I went with the CSP because I really wanted a card that I could get an AU on and one that would benefit me long term. And frankly, the $450 AF on the CSR scared me. :scared:

My next step was going to be the CIP this summer (I'm currently 3/24), but now that I see the benefits of the CIC I may go with that. I also really wanted the CF for the higher categories, but it looks like the CIC covers that with the gift cards I could get at 5% at office supply stores. BTW, it says "cash back", but can that be converted to UR?

Are you approaching 50% of household income as a credit limit total with his Chase cards? You could just have to move some credit limit around. He can call and have you speak on his behalf or you can pretend to be him if you know all his info and he is ok with that.

Thanks! I think we both got our CSPs over 24 months ago so I guess we could both do this. Maybe we'll do him first while I take a break and then do me. Is there a minimum amount of time we should wait between cancelling the CSP and re-applying?

I think it’s 31 days. I’d wait a bit long if you could.

I hadn't thought of that. He has $52,000 CL with his 3 cards which is just a bit over 50% of what we listed for household income. I think I will wait and see what the mail brings and if that is an issue we can move credit around. I still want to get another SW card for him this year.

It’s probably because Chase doesn’t like to extend more than 50% of income. I had to call for my Marriott card. You just have to offer to move credit from another card. There have been some reports that Chase isn’t allowing it, but others have said they are.

@calypso726 -

You posted about The Greatest Showman a while back. We missed it in theaters but finally caught it on our Apple TV and it's been on nearly nonstop play since. The movie is great, but the songs, choreography and cinematography are so beautiful! WE LOVE IT!

I saw it twice in the theater and bought it the day it came out. Love it and listen to the soundtrack whenever I am in my car.

Yes. The CIC is a "cash back" card that earns cash back in the form of UR points (1 UR = $0.01), but doesn't give you the ability to transfer them to partners or redeem them for travel through the UR portal. You'll have to combine the points from your CIC to a CIP, CSR, or CSR to take advantage of transfers to partners or redemption for travel through the portal.

Does anyone use Credit Karma? Is it any good for anything?
i downloaded the app and have it on the phone. I figure it is free and updates me when i have changes on my credit. It pulls from TU and Equifax. I also have credit journey from chase. So far i have been happy with it.

I’m at 80%. I’m not sure about the 50% figure.

I have yet another question about the CIP. if i pay my phone and cable bill with it i would get 3x in points. But if i pay my electric and water bill it will only be 1x. IF so does plastiq count 3x on water and electric (utilities)?

Also, no go with the mortgage payment as of yet on the CIP through plastiq. But if for some reason i can "trick" the system and it does pass the online steps and produces an invoice to be paid, is there a final manual review or override where it could get rejected?

What kind of card/cards do you need for lounge access at airports? I know there are different types of lounges for different card holders, but beyond this I know nothing.

None of those cards report to your personal credit report - so while YOU know you got 3 cards in 3 months...nobody else really does, lol! It sounds like you're considering a Chase card to the question is really when did you get that CIP? I'd probably wait 2 months from that date before applying with Chase again :) Also, if you're in 2 player mode then who got each of those cards because 1 player may have gotten 0 cards in the last 3 months ;) remember the banks don't treat you as a household, you are each on your own and individual in this game :)

Regarding your "24 months" comment and the CSP- keep in mind this 24 months since you earned the bonus NOT when you applied. Also if you cancel a Chase card there's DPs that you can apply pretty quickly thereafter. I have personally always waited 1 month to avoid scrutiny. Only one of you should cancel your CSP initially so that you can refer each other. Then once the referral points post, transfer them and cancel the other CSP and refer back - boom 20k extra URs for doing that :D
