I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Using multiple GC is always tricky! I love that Costco will refund an item on any Visa credit card I choose, even though I used the Visa GC to pay

I always ask them to put the cash on a shop card. I found that both chase and my NF flagship were taking back rewards with returns, depending on what the card earned.

Isn’t that all cards work though? If a return is credited to that card you would lose the points/miles/cash.

It is nice to get the shop card at Costco but next time as @georgina pointed out they will let you return to any Visa card. Try whipping out your debit card next time and the money will refund to your checking account instead and you are not forced to spend it at Costco (not that is going to be a problem for any of us lol)

I never thought of that. I am definitely going to try my debit card next time.

Hi Disers!

Anyone utilize the $500 credit on The Edit Hotel stays on their CSR yet? I think it is $250 bi-annually? And it is available on both the personal CSR and the BizCSR?

So, we are looking at staying at an Edit Hotel in Edinburgh and trying to see how to use the $250 credit on P2's CSR and $250 on my bizCSR...

ETA: We will be staying 4 consecutive nights (then 2 nights on a Rabbie tour) and then 1 night afterwards before leaving for London. I read that you must stay 2 consecutive nights for the Edit $250 credit to be triggered. I wonder if I can reserve 2 nights under P2's CSR and then 2 nights with my bizCSR and then ask to have the room reservations linked at check in? One of the "benefits" are room upgrades if available. Not sure how separating the stay into 2 reservations under different names will affect the chances of that.

ETA: The Edit credit ($250 b4 12/31/25) is available on my BizCSR now but apparently won't be available on P2's CSR until 10/26/25.

I haven’t used mine yet as mine is not active yet like your P2. Remember even though the cards are in different names does not mean that you can’t make the first two nights in your name with card 1 and then the next two nights in your name with Card 2.

Most of these edit properties that I have played around with are boosted to the 2 cents per point. What I think I will be doing is booking the 2 nights and lowering the amount of points until it shows I owe just over $250. This way I’ll get the 2 cents per point for the points and then the $250 credit as well.

Umm, other than a Visa gift card debit, I've never possessed a debit card linked to my checking.

Debit cards do not possess the same level of protections that your accounts possess or that credit cards possess.

Instead most give you pointers on how 'you' can prevent fraud.

No they don’t give you the same purchase protections and after the frank dodd act (probably said that wrong) most debit cards don’t issue rewards either.

I purchase everything with a CC but if a company is going to allow me to swipe any card to put a refund on that is when I use my debit card so I don’t have to lose any rewards. Other than that and the rare occasion for cash it would just stay at home.

Was this a special ask of the bank? Since the late 90’s most banks started issuing ATM cards with a Visa or MC logo on it. The banks realized they could start collecting the interchange fees and there was a whole marketing blitz about the “Visa Check Card” and “MasterMoney card”.

No. Or maybe it could be considered a 'special ask.'

Remember I'm 'old' and pretty old school. I belong to Navy Federal, lock, stock and barrel since the eighties. They used to issue a 'cucard' which allowed withdrawals from checking and savings at countless ATM's for free and some time back they changed everybody to debit cards, except maybe me and maybe others I don't know about. I called them and refused a debit card. In typical 'old' fashion I said 'no' to a debit card and continued to hold the withdrawal card which pretty much works for free everywhere I go. As far as I know the withdrawal card is not an option but I get a new one every few years. (I've never had to pay 'any' fees at NFCU). I don't ever use it other than for deposits and withdrawals. Since I hold a zillion actual credit cards it hasn't impacted me that I know off.

My kids all use debit cards at the same credit union with no issues. I've continued in my 'old' way with no issues.

Not that I am aware of. We have used URs to book flights for him before and have not encountered such a large difference.
I was looking at some flights last night.... on the JetBlue page, 17,400..... on the UR portal it was over 34k UR!!! no thank you ....and after reading your follow-up,I noticed it's the same thing, price quoted was both ways lol. Buuuuut it was still higher than transferring and booking anyway by about 8k.

This is interesting.... and a first for me- got an email for Amex plat- spend 20k get 200k..... I don't even think I'll click thru tho bc I can't do that kind of spend (I'm def more low level than that!) but I wonder if this means I could get a lower tier amex cc if they "like" me now?

We have not done this with the Edit credit. However, we have done this with FN certs, where one is in my name under my account and the other is in P2s. We are planning to use the same strategy for stays next year with hotel credits from multiple Amex Plats, Citi Strata Elite, and Aspire cards, FN certs etc.

First we make sure that the same type of room is available for the night or two nights that will go under my credit and reservation. Then we make sure the exact same room type (bed, view, floor etc.) is also available for the one or 2 nights that go with P2s credit or reservation. For example, I would want one king size bed available and booked across all 4 nights. I would not want 2 nights booked in a room with a king bed and 2 nights booked in a room with 2 doubles or something. This leaves the opportunity to get notes on the reservation explaining that they should be considered linked and consecutive. Side note, I would not do this for an FHR/Hotel Collection reservation though, and instead just mention it at check in. So, at check in we explain to the front desk that we would like to stay in the same room across all 4 nights. We have had a 100% success rate so far and have never needed to switch rooms. Typically, we are asked to swing by the front desk the morning of check out for the first reservation and get re-keyed for the second reservation so we can get back in the room. It's a minor inconvenience but not a big deal.

This last strategy usually works most places as it saves on housekeeping costs. Since I'm an early riser I'll often stop by when it's not busy.

And linking up with rooms booked by friends has worked for me also as again, it's more efficient for the hotel to continue you in the same room.

I just did this in Athens with dd's CSR; first 2 nights were booked using the $300 travel credit + $250 Edit credit, second 2 nights were booked using the $500 new card Edit credit (or whatever it was called). I did have to get a new room key on the morning of my 3rd day (took less than 1 min). Surprisingly I got 2 X $100 credits on the room. I booked the base room (queen bed, no view) and didn't receive an upgrade (the hotel was sold out for the first 2 nights of my stay). I must say that the treatment at the hotel was AMAZING -- I will write a short review in due course, but I would highly recommend the Capital Centre Athens and would definitely stay there again (and hope to in 2027). I asked for and received a noon check-out; early check-in wasn't necessary.

I want to fly ITA to Rome from IAD through United next September. I've been checking dates and I noticed that ITA has Saver fares for economy but not business in advance. But about 2 weeks out they do have business fares for 88K points. There have been several 88K flights for Swiss Air that I have found so I'm thinking of just booking that and canceling and rebooking if an ITA fare becomes available.

If I am reading it correctly there is no penalty for canceling a miles flight with United and I should get my points back. Has anyone done something like this before?
