I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Planning way in advance but I'm going over all my CCs this week and figuring out next steps. My Amex Biz Plat anniversary will be 12/23. I upgraded from Biz Gold.
1. Will my AF post on 12/23?
2. Can I downgrade back to the Biz Gold? I'm going to do something as I won't use the benefits on the higher AF. If not the Biz Gold, what is the best thing to do? I already have a BBP (assume I can't have 2). I'd like to keep AMEX happy so would rather downgrade than cancel.

Thanks.

Did you take an upgrade offer? You'll need to keep it as a biz plat for at least a year from when you upgraded or the upgrade bonus will be clawed back. Amex keeps the same anniversary date and AF date, so you can't rely on that to determine when it's safe to close or downgrade.

The AF will be the same date as when it was charged for the biz gold. I think it's at close of first statement.

Downgrade options are the biz gold or biz green (can't do BBP). Biz green also has AF and if you haven't had it before would lock you out of the SUB unless you find NLL.

Question for anyone who has the Oura Ring
If you have the 200$ credit, say buy it for Christmas. Does the 200$ go for the sub until the battery eventually dies, ie, for next year?

We just got approved for United Explorer and have a quick trip to WDW next month, so I'm planning to buy DGCs from Sam's Club. Does anyone know if that purchase would apply towards the $3000 spend to get the miles in the sign-up offer? The offer terms don't specifically exclude gift cards. Past gift card purchases from Sam's Club have been categorized as merchandise on my Venture card. If the purchase doesn't apply towards the minimum spend, I think I'm better off just using the Venture card for 2x miles.

Have you opened any other Amex credit cards in the last 90 days? There's a rule for 2 approved credit cards in a rolling 90 days period. Don't count charge cards like the gold or plat.

How many Amex credit cards do you have including closed within the last couple months? There's a 5 open credit card rule (again don't count charge cards).

ETA: To clarify, did the app actually go through and it was denied. Or did you get the pop-up? The pop-up wouldn't have to do with the rules.
No, neither of us have opened any other Amex cards in the last 90 days. My last credit card was the BBP in 9/23 and DH doesn't have any Amex credit cards.

The BBP is my only other Amex credit card besides the new Bevy and I still use it. Neither of us have ever had any other Amex credit cards to have closed any.

I think the app went through. I received a declined message on the website and a message that I would receive a letter with the reason why it was declined. I received an email that Amex had decided on a decision and I could review it through a link. The letter said they were unable to approve my application because they had approved an applicatiton for the same type of card recently. On the website I went through all of my prior cards were listed with approvals and this application was listed with a status of Canceled.

I am wondering if Amex has changed their rules for the Marriott cards and you cannot get a Brilliant if you have a Bevy or if they are not allowing more than 1 of any type of card in a certain time period. I thought about trying again today without using a referral to see if I get a different result.

According to this there is a 90 day family rule for Amex Marriott personal cards. Link

Yes it will count.

"("Purchases" do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.) It is though. If you have a passport you sent that in, not birth certificate.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/16-17.html

Your evidence of U.S. citizenship must must have the original, official seal or stamp of the government office which issued it. You must provide one of the following documents:

  • U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements:
  • Requirements include: Shows the seal or stamp from the city, county, or state of birth which issued it; the applicant’s full name, date of birth, place of birth; your parent(s)' full names; the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth); and the registrar's signature.
Or
  • Full validity, undamaged U.S. passport
    • Full validity means the passport was valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children under 16.
  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad or any birth document issued by the U.S. Department of State
  • Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
    • If you have an Alien Registration Number (A-Number) from USCIS and you are applying for the first time, you may include the A
That is listed under “Applicant born in the US”. Under “Applicants born Outside the US” it lists adoption but says you have to provide your permanent residence status. So he doesn’t/never had a green card and we’ve always been asked for his Certificate of Citizenship, despite having a passport already. (This will be his 4th passport). It may not be required by law but in reality it is required. We will probably try going somewhere different (usually apply at USPS) and hope for a different outcome.

Like someone else posted yesterday, I applied for a CIU today (using DH's support link), and I got the "We are unable to approve your application" message, stating I'll get a letter in 7-10 days. Nothing under Notices when I login to my Chase account either. UGH. I was hoping for one last support bonus before that goes away :( I only have 2 biz cards open, last Chase card (CSP) opened in April, and I'm 3/24. I closed a CIP 9 days ago. Sigh. This is my first denial on a biz card... Using all same stats as previously.

Thanks for finding this information. I will need to add it to my notes. I guess that makes the Amex Marriott Business card out also so time to look for another card.

I think it's just the personal cards. So you can still go for the biz and then 91 days from the Bevy, try for the Brilliant. By then you'll be out of 2/90 as well. I think that should work?

Yes it was an upgrade offer. I know I did it in Dec and Dec 23rd was when they charged me the extra AF over the Gold. I'll have to look back at when my biz gold AF was charged last. Good to know I can downgrade back to a gold.

My tracker for resy isn’t moving. Went into a resy restaurant (listed on their website) Sunday and bought a $100 gift card. Did I do something wrong?

Can you transfer URs from a CIU to spouse’s CSP? I forget on this. Once accounts are “linked” of course. DH doesn’t currently hold any Chase cards that transfer to partners. So I’m thinking to apply for a biz card under DH info (since I just got denied)… but eventually I’d want to transfer the points to my account since I hold the CSP currently.

If you have a large library near you that does passports I would suggest that as an option. We did our initial passports at our county library which is fairly large and they were quite knowledgable on the process and various documents. More so than our local USPS office.

My Resy and Lululemon tracker aren't moving. I used them both over the weekend and I have both activated. I'm giving it some time because I know if I chat with them about it I will get the standard "it could take blah blah" for them to post.
