I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Do you know if the AF is going up? If not, this card would be a keeper; with the $600 FHR credit, the $200 airline credit and the $100 Saks credit it more than pays for itself. Much better than the new coupon book the CSR will become.

As an aside, I put my monthly Peleton charge on dd's new CSR and the credit for last month didn't post. Could it be because the Peleton account is in my name and the CSR is in hers? Easy enough to remedy if that's the case. I'll have to shoot Chase a quick SM (I mean dd lol) and ask why no credit last month.

Thinking of getting her one of the Hilton cards: either Aspire, which she's never had, biz card or basic personal with NLL. With our last property tax payment due in September I should be able to squeak another MSR in.

She's applying to vet med schools in the UK for next year (and 1 in Canada as an international student :scared: because that's we roll here), so MSRs will be easy to meet at that time. Currently the property tax payment will be the last big expense for 6 months.
I thought they were both going up to $895

Today i received approval for my vacation time for next year, so I am officially starting to plan my Africa trip for next year's great migration season. I plan on doing a safari and the gorilla trek. This is my #1 bucket list trip! I am considering the JW Marriott but would most likely only have enough pts for 2 nts max. Not sure I can stomach the cash rate for additional nts, but haven't ruled it out yet either. Going to look around for other options in Kenya and Tanzania, including Mapito. My sis and BIL leave in a couple of weeks for the Serengeti, so I also look forward to hearing about their experience.

If anyone has recommendations for gorilla trekking, please share.
Seems JW calendar is open through certain dates in July. I would grab the nights you have enough points for if the cancellation is flexible. I would consider buying the points, rather than paying the cash rate, so that you get the fourth night free, plus buying points will be cheaper than the cash rate by about half (when there's a promo), I think. It seems you just missed a promo, but I'd do the math and see how 5th nt free would factor in. Here's historical info on points buying promos from OMAAT.

Keep us on the loop on what you book!!!

If you haven't had the Platinum version previously, I would do as @afan suggested and apply for it as new. You can always cancel it after a year if you decide not to keep it, or cancel the Gold when its annual fee hits your account if you do decide to keep the Plat.

While you can upgrade from Gold to Plat, you can't downgrade back (someone can correct me if that's only true for the biz cards). Because of that, I would rather have the option to keep the current Gold so I wouldn't be stuck with only the higher annual fee card. Plus, much higher bonus on a new card anyway, and probably no credit check since you already have a relationship with Amex
@DianaMB333 one further consideration I forgot to mention is that upgrading could block you from getting the bonus on a new Delta Platinum for several years. You could even get the be card and then still take the upgrade offer if you wanted (I actually did that last year and plan to close at least one of them when the annual fees hit)

Chase has a 50% transfer bonus that ends tonight. I think I am going to hold off for a couple of reasons. Mainly because I don't think its possible for me to amass the pts for next year even if I buy some. All the info I can find says the free nt offer is book 4 nts on pts and get the 5th free. I wouldn't be able to amass enough pts for 4 nts. You are only allowed to buy a max of 100K pts per year (although they increased it by 50% during one of the bonus purchase periods). So I could only buy max 300K (with bonus). You are also only allowed a max of 100K pts transferred to you per year. Sadly, all of that still doesn't get me to 4 nts worth.

Actually you are only allowed to transfer out 100k per year. You can receive via transfer up to 500k per year.

I haven’t booked with points, but once booked a rental under DHs name with my card on file. At the Avis rental counter they would not let him give my card, but did let him switch to one of his. Not sure if this is YMMV depending on the agent or not
yikes,so my only option here may be drive the 40 mins to airport to meet their 8:30 am pickup...... OY I knew that was too easy when I booked it :rotfl2:

I wonder what else is changing, if anything. But it seems like a nice win. DH's Biz Plat renews this month so it's nice that we might get the lower AF with the new benefits for almost a whole year. Unfortunately, my personal Plat renews in October, lol
They said more announcements id imagine the date is September 18th when the change happens.
I'm willing to bet a new Delta card comes out too. Glad you and others nudged me to get that Citi card before a potential other SUB :-). I also wouldn't be surprised if the AF for the plantium hits 4 digits.

Finally got approved for the SW personal card. Had to talk to fraud twice but it should arrive today. We aren't totally dumping SW, nice to have it as an option but have definitely expanded our circle. Lucky to be half based in Chicagoland with plenty of options to our primary destinations.
DH was approved for a Citi strata premier today. Even thought the SUB is less than the Elite, I like the earnings options and the lower AF better. Nice to have a card with grocery and gas multiplier to transfer to AA.

DH is booked as my companion for SW flights we have booked in October. They were booked after the free bag change, so we will have to pay checked bag fees as it stands now.

If I apply for the SW personal card before the September offer expires (hoping to get companion pass for him for 26/27), would he get free bag as my companion since he would now have their CC? Would I also get a free bag since our reservations would be linked?

I would think he would since they know who has a card. The verbiage states, "First checked bag for Cardmembers and up to 8 additional passengers in the same reservation.

I received my new SWPlus card this morning. I was surprised that some of the previous benefits continue until 12/31/25 including 2 EBC. Went ahead and booked that for my DH's flight on 12/30!

The only thing you need to watch is cutting it too close from application to flight. I believe the terms indicate it can take up to two weeks for cardholder status to reflect in their system for the purposes of using those benefits. Assuming the system is properly reading you as a cardholder, your bag privileges carry through to your companion.

I have a World of Hyatt card that I want to cancel because it just doesn’t work for us anymore. MCO Hyatt is not eligible anymore for the FNC and finding a Hyatt on road trips is hard. I just paid the annual 95.00 fee in July and I have a FNC to use. When should I attempt to cancel this, I’ve never canceled a card before and I’m in my 60s. Thanks for the help.

If the annual fee was charged within 30 days, you can get a full refund. If it's been longer than that, then no refund and you might as well keep it until the next annual fee.

We're back. We flew out Saturday afternoon (4pm) and managed to all get D1 to Munich. Though I will say the FA on the side my son and I were on was a joy,. My BF was given 6A, I was given 6B and my son 6C. My son wanted the window (we were on the 767-400). The FA came over and first was upset we weren't the paying passengers who I guess were assigned those seats originally. Then she looked us up and down and said, Oh, you're non-rev and kinda rolled her eyes. She slacked BIG time on service. Not that we expected or asked for a lot, but she was too busy chatting up other passengers to take our orders, or bring us food/drinks. My BF on the other hand had FAs who brought him everything under the sun, nonstop drinks and snacks, etc, LOL. Oh well.

We all really slacked on sleep Friday night, hoping to sleep on the plane. That didn't happen. The cabin was kept WAY too hot. Plus as soon as we got on the flight I had to book everything (hotel, tours, train tickets, set up the esim, etc). That is the real joy in non-rev. Well first was would we get D1 (we had all decided it was D1 or we would pivot to Frankfurt). Then it was a race to book everything. So the first 2 hours were spent with me freaking out (and eating). When we landed we managed to figure out the train/subway situation. I used my Marriott FNC (35k) certificate that was expiring this month on the Aloft Munich. I used my Delta Stay credit for the other 2 nights (plus $290, LOL).

When we landed we couldn't check into the hotel. So we left our bags and headed out to do stuff. Day 1's plans were supposed to be the museum, maybe some of the buildings/gardens. We found ourselves at the BMW museum. It was hot....so hot. And crowded. SOOOOO very crowded! And I hit my wall, hard and fast. I was lightheaded, and exhausted and miserable. After making it through, we headed back towards our hotel. We needed food, which if I remember we got in the station (McD for me and the boy, the BF got some kind of sausage). Luckily the hotel had a room for us. When we got to the room we noticed it was HOT. Sure it was cooler than outside, but it was much warmer than the hallways. I managed to pass out on the bench in the room, while my BF had them come try to "reset" our AC. After a nap for all of us, we decided to venture back out. We managed to catch the Glockenspiel. At this point, my BF was already thinking of going home on Tuesday because of how bad this all was. We walked around for a bit, but again, it was HOT, and so crowded. We headed to a beer hall to try and get some dinner. But now my son had hit his wall. He was over the crowds and the heat and didn't like anything on the menu. So we left. We found an Italian restaurant. The idea was to just split a pizza between my son and I. I don't think the waiter understood and bought us both one. Considering they were $30/ea I wasn't too happy. Then of course there was the bottles of water, as well. The place had no A/C. It was miserable and cost us well over $100. At that point we decided to call it a night. We headed back to our hotel room where it was still UNGODLY hot. We managed to switch from the 5th floor to the 1st floor, and I think that helped us get a "cooler" room, but it was still hot.

Monday we had our castles tours. We got to see Neuschwanstein and Linderhof and stopped in Oberammergau as well. The bus had decent AC, lots of snacks and water too. Our guide was very knowledgeable and VERY into Ludwig LOL. I think my son was annoyed that she talked so much. But we redeemed the trip on Monday a bit. Plus the delta one seats didn't look great for going home Tuesday. We already had the room for the night, so I pushed for us to stay. Plus my 16yo wanted to get his first "legal" beer. So we all agreed to push forward. We got the boy KFC (which he said was nasty) when we got back from the tour (which was 10 hours) and then he passed out in the room, while the BF and I tried Augustiner Keller (which wasn't too far from the hotel). I ordered a "steak". It was white, and certainly not beef! I'm a very picky eater, and was upset there was no chicken to really be found! And then even more upset the "steak" wasn't beef. The BF ordered the white sausage but wasn't impressed. But he did like the beer, LOL. It's also crazy water is more than beer (which I don't like beer).

Day 3 was supposed to be Salzburg. But we decided it probably wouldn't be enjoyable for anyone. Plus my BF really wants to do Eagle's Nest and we couldn't pull that off. So we were going to just tour around Munich. We started w/ an American breakfast. My son was so upset there wasn't a bagel to be found anywhere. Oh and that McD didn't have sausage biscuits. So we went to Mr. Pancake, LOL. We were close to the Olympic Park so we headed over there. That's when we discovered the swim hall. And that anyone could visit it. My son was begging us to go, so we headed back, got our suits and towels and spent the afternoon at the pool there, LOL. He was excited they had all the diving boards open and just before we left, they opened the platform. So they both got to go off the 10m platform. After that fun we decided to hit up 5 Guys, LOL. In my defense, the food sucks in Munich, LOL. We tried to head out to the Siegestor and then the gardens, but my body hit its limits (and again, so freaking hot). Not to mention the Arch was under repairs and had a tarp up. UGH. So we headed back to pack up.

The way home, there were 28 Delta 1 open, so we had no problem getting a seat. We had a little time so we hit the lounge. Of course my 16yo had to go take a shower, because why not, LOL. We all got a little food, he snuck his last legal beer (at 9am) and we headed to the gate. This time I was 6C and my BF got 6B (my son got 6D). Since D1 was so empty they let DS swap to 7D which he liked the configuration of the seat better, LOL. I will say, 6C SUCKED! it was soooo narrow! I did not like the foot well at all either! I thought about trading rows, but figured out how to drop the side of my seat and made it more comfortable. I can see why my BF didn't sleep at all on the way to Munich. I finally got to have CHICKEN for our departure meal. I think we all slept several hours. They kept the cabin nice and cool. And the FAs were amazing this time. Mine kept bringing me more champagne. I don't really like to drink while flying, but I mean, champagne....free, LOL. Oh and I will say I busted out the compression socks for this flight. GAME CHANGER! I have been swelling recently on longer flights (like to the west coast). The socks did great.

So in a nut shell. We flew to German to swim, eat American food, and see the castles, LOL. My son is sold on Michigan even more now, LOL. I don't think I can ever do a long haul outside of D1! And jet lag is real. Even w/ sleeping a good amount on the flight home, I hit the wall when we got back. I think I'm pretty much back to normal now.

All in all, I spent about $1k. The aloft location was great, the AC was not. We have all decided Europe will only be spring/fall/winter. Or we'll be researching what the crew hotel is (as we assume they must have great AC). Part of me feels like we wasted so much time and opportunity. But then I remind myself, we have the ability to just do crap like this. While $1k isn't cheap ($580 of it was the castle tour), having "free" tickets makes trips like this more doable and less stressful to "see everything". We did what worked for us.....We gave up Vegas for this. I had palazzo booked from the Black Friday deals. But we were just there in May, and we're going in December for Zac Brown (and maybe Nov for New Kids). So I was okay pivoting our plans. 3 of us can now say we've been to Europe. I felt terrible my daughter had to stay home because she is starting her big girl job. But she would have hated every single second!

And if you made it through this novel, you should atleast get castles, LOL.

Oh and I guess I have a question too! So Amex, NLL Delta Gold Biz. Since I used my $150 credit for this year, I'm open to getting another card, LOL. Do I have to cancel my current when the offer for the new card is NLL? I know w/ Hilton I didn't have to. I'm shocked the stay credit was applied the same day I booked the hotel! I'll cancel if I must (I have 4 open amex cards right now). But if I can keep both I'll keep both since my AF doesn't renew until like April next year. I'll use the credit again, then cancel.

TBH, at some point, I might just apply for the Delta Gold personal again. I think we get the AF waived if we use the employee link. But that might only be for my BF. I've debated keeping the card, but the AF is a wash. And it gives me back up if needed, LOL.

Not sure if it's the same, but I've had 2 personal AmEx HH cards at once (second using NLL link on DoC). I did cancel the first one as soon as it came up for renewal.

Dd and I survived Pulpit Rock—not my favorite excursion. Weather was lousy—rainy and so foggy so absolutely no view. But the rest of the cruise has been fabulous. Highly recommend a fjords cruise.
Other than rain, what were the temps like in Norway? I’m leaving Wed for London and then cruise to Norway and Iceland. I’m really excited!
